Not that it would or could happen, but I wonder how this would all legally play out if all the contributors deleted their ports today. I wouldn't be surprised if SS would keep the data finding some weasel wording in the TOS to keep it.

I deleted all my images from Shutterstock recently because I caught them offering some of my stuff as a free download without my knowledge of permission. But if I hadn't already, this AI thing would have made me do it. I mean come ON. SS has gone wayyy down in my opinion starting with the deletion of the user forum, the insulting royalty plan, and now this. BYE, SS.

This is one of current Adobe Stock best selling portfolio.

It's all AI generated images.  Very nice images.  You don't even need a camera.  You can generate so many in hours rather than doing actual photo shoots with models and paid locations.  How can photographers compete with this from now on?  At the same time, AI is a new opportunity.  There are so many videos on YouTube on how to make money from AI generated images.  I got to be prepared what I should do with AI generated videos in future.  This is frightening.

Look the hand on the girl in the yellow sweater, 4 rows down, far left. She has 6 fingers. AI is known for wonky hands and feet. Are these images not being reviewed??

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock is an embarassment
« on: July 06, 2023, 11:28 »
I recently found an image of mine on Shutterstock being offered as a "Free Download." I NEVER authorized this. I deleted all my images then and there.  It was already not what it used to be since they messed with the forum. They can bite me.

It doesn't matter how it's packaged, giving our work away for free devalues us all, as if we haven't already been devalued enough. When I see an image in the Free section of any agency, I assume it wasn't good enough to be accepted. I then look at the name of the creator and assume that person isn't very good at what he does. And that is what the buyers - I mean takers in this instance - will think too.  Anyone participating in this travesty should be ashamed. Stop the madness.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Closing account caution
« on: July 06, 2019, 13:55 »
Just wanted to share that Dreamstime keeps the remaining balance at account closure. Really shifty policy considering their payout threshold is 100$.
Sales were so poor I wasn't going to get my money until next year anyway.
Yay Micro did this to me when I closed my account there.  It was only a few dollars, but it was MY few dollars. It was years ago and I don't know if they still do this or not.

Thanks, you guys!

Is there a list somewhere  or does anyone know offhand which agencies allow buyers to use the images for resale items? A friend's daughter wants to start a business using stock photos of travel destinations to put into little kits for students for educational purposes. Sorry if this has already been asked - I don't have time to comb through all the topics, and frankly the terms of use for every different agency make my head spin. So is there a list of them somewhere, or does anyone know which ones do and don't allow this use? Thank you, colleagues!

I am deleting right now. Veer is pathetic pay anyway,

Is anyone as nervous about this as I am? I'm thinking of deleting my images and my account. I mean China?!?

OH I didn't know that! It's pretty boring there without you, Mike, Steve, and Jens.
Thanks, but they dont want me there.  ;) Its ok though

Cheers
It looks to me like they just don't want anything interesting!

Ah ok, makes sense.

I am no longer allowed to post on the SS forum.  ;) But I found my peace and quiet here on MSG. Things are nice around here. Less drama, less volatile. Who would have thought!  ;D

I wrote to SS to register my extreme disapproval of this terrible move, but they never responded. So I will say it here. I've been licensing my images for print for 30 years, and there is rarely even a print run of 250,000 let alone 500,000. In fact, years ago I tried to get them to reduce the 250,000 to 10,000 where it belongs. And now this. As I said at the advent of the stupid stupid DPC, anyone who does not close their account at Fotolia has no call to be complaining about this new development because you're adding to the mess. I am disgusted.
Print runs on ELs were long time 500K on FT, CanStockPhoto and DT, even before DPC came along.
Hi Ron, where have you been. Yes, I know that, and it's why I either don't upload at all to those sites or I don't give them everything I have. Shutterstock was the last bastion, and now they're going down too.

Shutterstock -  the CEO will soon be facing angry stockholders (mostly mutual fund managers) who will demand more value and scream bloody murder if you try and increase royalties.

Agree with everything you said, especially the above. The minute there are stockholders, raises become endangered. We can always hope I guess

For me, the crowdsourcing aspect of micro is more destructive to my living than the micro prices. Because if it weren't for the sheer numbers of amateurs contributing, the agencies would never get away with half of what they're doing, DPC included. I'll probably get some incoming from saying this, but it is the way I feel.

I see it the opposite way. There were two tiers, one for pros and one for amateurs (I'm an amateur). Macro used to be for pros, micro for amateurs. Then the pros saw they could make good money by outshooting and outdrawing the amateurs in micro, which led to a flood of pro images that were sitting on hard drives, increasing the quality of inexpensive images.

I think the market will eventually go back in that direction, with the pros heading more towards sites like Stocksy as they become disgusted with the low prices their work sells for, leaving the amateurs in micro.

And hopefully by then I'll have increased my skills enough to be considered a pro. ;)

You are not an amateur haha. I hope you're right, but I'm already shocked at the high quality I see on micro, and I'm not sure we can put the toothpaste back in the tube.

Experts on the SS critique forum will continue to teach and nurture newbies who don't know an F stop from a bus stop. The newbies go on to become experts competing with them and flooding the market even more. Hobbyists and part-timers thrilled to see their work on the cover of a book don't mind that they were paid 38 cents for it. People who one year ago were posting OOF photos with purple fringing in the critique forum have now become Sage Oracles because they have a Wordpress blog with the word "Photography" in it. The unfortunate term "royalty-free" is increasingly confused in the minds of the public with the term "FREE" not to mention "Copyright-Free.' The art licensing world will be in ruins due to all the seamless vector patterns on micro, not to mention all these people willing to give up their layered files. I am old enough to remember a time when no designer would ever have dreamed of giving up a layered file, and if a client asked for one they were laughed at.

Seems like this wouldn't make a difference for illustrations. Am I correct?
Nope! I took down all photos of my daughter and now all the photos are animals and buildings, with mostly illustrations. Let them say one of my cartoon characters has an embarrassing itch or erectile dysfunction.

It probably doesn't really matter since I don't almost have models, however if they pay $75 they can even use my pictures for Republicans or Tories ;D The punk side of me says we're only in it for the money,
Well then you ARE a Republican! Embrace it.

http://www.zymmetrical.com/artists/artist-profile/uid/53184/

http://www.zymmetrical.com/art/photos/photos-nature-animals/fileid/zyimgnaa17855/

I emailed zymmetrical about this.

What else can i do, can somebody help me, please?

Er, ahem, that top link leads to MY new Zymmetrical profile, which I just set up late last night. My images aren't even all up yet. Interestingly, when I go to your image links above and click on Lynx from there, I do get the Lynx page but it has the same URL as my new profile.

For the record, the thief IS NOT ME. Hey Zymmetrical, can I get a new link not associated with a thief pls??
