I suspect the Feb 2 deactivation protest hurt them more than we knew.
What fools these mortals be.
Bruce and his new venture will crush iStock. I predict a great number of exclusives will jump ship now.

I just killed off 85. Man it's a lot more tedious than I had anticipated. Still have several hundred to go. I don't think I'll get it all done today though.

Notice who she is going after? Always go for the deep pockets. I doubt that she has a case, but I'll bet Volvo pays her off just to keep her quiet.... or not, they do say there is no such thing as bad publicity in Hollywood. Does the same apply to cars?

I didn't know I could ever hate anybody or any company THIS MUCH..
Thanks for teaching it to me, H&F and getty!
If you didn't know that you could hate a company this much, you never worked in corporate America. Especially a Not-for-profit.

I'm not making much from micro these days anyway. So this really is the straw that breaks the camel's back. As soon as I hit my next payout, I'm outta here.

Canon Medium format...Hmm. A very nice little rumor
Yea but they don't have glass for MF sensors. What are they going to do - make adapters for Mamyia and Hasselblad lenses?
If they were truly going to the trouble of developing a medium format, they would also go to the trouble of developing lenses for it.

I have found Facebook to be an excellent resource for networking with other industry professionals such as makeup artists, models, clothing stylists and other photographers.
As far as seeing any business from it... almost none at all. I did get a referral form another photographer the other day for a $300 business head shot that he was unable to do because of a schedule conflict.
A full time commercial photographer that I have great respect for and who has, but barely uses his FB account put it to me this way: "The people that I need to see my work are busy business people, they are not on Facebook".

What everyone seems to be ignoring is the physics of light itself. If you want a fast lens, there needs to be a large expanse of glass to gather in all that light.
Imagine sticking an 85mm 1.2L prime on a "M" body?

Totally a fluke. Sorry, couldn't resist.

In a huge surprise, an IS exclusive has reported, on facebook, one of their images posted to foap.
Dang, thought I was on FB for a second. I went looking for the "Like" button!

One sale so far this month. This from a port that used to generate from one to three payouts a month. Not huge I know, but seriously this is just a tremendous falloff. Also the summer months used to be my best ones with August always the top producing month. I have dropped exclusivity, so that I can try to make a bit more on my existing images elsewhere. I just cannot any longer muster any sort of enthusiasm to shoot for stock.

Anyone seen the recent work of Terry Richardson? Abject garbage (Art? ). My point is, he does it to generate buzz as well as differentiate himself from everyone else. Perhaps that was the point of this insanely bad shoot with the Olympians. After all, everyone is talking about how horrendous these shots are. If it had been Tim Tadder or Joel Grimes doing shooting with their particular high definition style, they would have been stellar images... but perhaps totally ignored by the media.

Really no surprises here. Just read any good book on food photography and you will see these tricks plus many more. Milk looks blue in photographs. Elmers's glue looks better. I'm also betting that everyone knows the ice cream one sees in the movies is actually mashed potatoes. Real ice cream melts too fast.
I did get a bit of a kick watching them melt the cheese just so. That was cool.
BTW, I haven't eaten at a McDonalds in years. The last couplel of times that I tried I felt queezy for several hour after I ate. I don't know what it is in their food, but whatever it is, my body does not like it.
On a slightly different note; In Indonesia Micky D's serves fried chicken that puts anything KFC has to shame. Why they don't do that here in the US is a mystery to me.

I have thrown in the towel. I have gone from making a couple payouts a month (sometimes more) to only getting one DL so far this month. This entire year thus far has been horrible. Today I dropped exclusivity. I'm not submitting any more, I don't have the time or the inclination.

A) He will be successful. B) Yes, it should come as a very welcome wake-up call to the rest of the industry.

So , now I can sell all my Canon "L" glass and dump my 5D Mk2. There is no need to even contemplate a Mk3 any more. Oh happy day! I just need to upgrade my iPhone 4 to the 5 when it comes out and I'll be all set

If iStock wants to give refunds in perpetuity, that's up to them, but the content creator should be able to keep their earnings! As Sean points out, the 'Mother Ship" - Getty, has a 30 day refund policy.

^^^^ @ WUT, maybe you had better find a different line of work then because microstock images are used mostly for ADVERTISING.
I thought about that, that planned obsolescence is good for our business. But that doesn't matter if you look at the big picture and if you're not that shortsighted. What are you going to do when all resources will be gone? Eat the money you've made of off MS (even if it were millions)?
I didn't say that planned obsolescence is good. I only was pointing out that our participation in it is hypocritical; if we are railing against it on these forums. As they say, you are either part of the solution or part of the problem. As microstockers we are part of the problem.

(remember Rambo 3 and his Taliban allies ).
Scholarly research! This explains a lot of your posts.
What do you mean with this?
I guess that he's laughing at your sources
So, as you can see in that post, I am also laughing at my source... But if you look at the whole palette of movies, the situation regarding "film propaganda" isn't any more so humoristic ... Rambo 3 is certainly something different than Italian documentary mentioned in my first post... I am sure that movie was little part of propaganda in that time... Why today, there is no new movies about western alliance with the Taliban from that time? This period of human history is no more interesting or what? We know that movies about ww2 are still making...
I recently watched some a bit older movie "Hostel" in Tarantino's production ... In which American tourists were killed in a brutal manner, because of greed for money of eastern European mafia... The story is happening in Slovakia, after "the war" during 90-ties ... .. In Slovakia, there was no war since WW2! That is veeery peaceful country with much bigger security level than in many European or American countries...
That tells you how big is "competence" of great Hollywood directors and scenarists... Or maybe this is part of the "travel guide" for touristic industry...
Yeah I watched that movie years ago, it's pathetic how they see the rest of the world, they (characters in the movie) bought the whole hotel, champagne and lobsters in abundance for a dollar. Yes, a dollar. And they weren't trying to be sarcastic, satiric or anything. They portrayed the whole country a lot worse than it was even behind the iron curtain. And OTOH their latest war movies almost make you want to enlist in the US Army, so much superlatives, heroism surrounding their soldiers
Its called the entertainment industry for a reason. Its purpose is to make money, not accurate historical documentaries. Yes, Americans like to feel good about themselves and will pay money to watch films where the Americans are the good guys and always win. Don't go around using movies made for entertainment purposes as true of how the film makers or the Americans see themselves. Take it for what it is. Entertainment.
