iStockPhoto.com / Re: Sales have tanked big time
« on: October 29, 2011, 21:02 »
I think the change was pretty sudden for me sometime halfway through september so I would say it's either something istock has been doing with the best match or otherwise they must have lost some huge contract or a number of big contracts at the same time. If things don't improve in November and early December I will have to start exploring my options, the current relationship is beginning to look unsustainable.

each week keeps getting worse and worse for me... i'm now down about 40% in weekly $ earnings from 'normal'.

October is on track to be my worst month on istock in 5 years (since December 2006). That's pretty pathetic to say the least.

Right now the past two weeks have been almost 30% lower than what is "normal" for this time of the year... they've even been slower than the summer months. I'm not liking this trend.

Wow, this really sucks... another gazillion images to push back our files in the best match

No real conspiracies going on... you will hear our thoughts once the official announcement comes out from istock, the update from rogermexico said it will be in a few days.

Hopefully if istock finds that the vetta vector and video store shelves are empty they will reconsider... or they will let it shrivel up in the corner somewhere. Either way we dont lose anything.

We were promised something big and special when vetta was taken away from us back in september, but this is definitely not we bargained for. It is especially insulting to video contributors where in one scenario a regular sale earns more for the artist than the equivalent vetta sale, or in another scenario where the artist gets $3 more and istock gets $50 dollars more per sale. In our case with vectors the examples aren't as flagrant, however they still exist... for example for any contributor gold and above a 25 or 30 credit file nets almost the same or more than a vetta 40 credit file.

What this all boils down to is this - istock is proposing a 25-33% cut in royalties to vector and video artists and this is our way of saying no thanks.

i've been a member of these forums since 2009... just never posted.

I hope TPTB on istock provide us with more information regarding the goals of this conference call tomorrow.

No disrespect meant but the people that keep pushing to nominate stacey_newman or even pink_cotton_candy need to get their heads checked... this will turn this pointless conference call into something even more counter productive.

I'd be happy to participate in a conference call - no NDA - to discuss major contributor problems. Discuss is an operative word - i.e. not just listen. Problems plural is key as well - the clawback of funds and loss of control of our images is very important, but is only one of the major failings on the site at the moment. If they dont' fix search soon, the future doesn't look bright at all.

I think iStock is trying to deflect trouble rather than solve problems. I think they want to try and ratchet down the contributor discontent and aren't thinking about solving the problems as the way to do that.

I hope they're willing to revisit the sort of conference call they're willing to have. Going from "trust us" to "trust them" isn't much of a step forward IMO.

Very well said, agree with you 100%

From what I've seen in the forums, most people including me are near double of last time. I think istock is lying to us again... its not like its the first time either. Seems like for all their 'hard work' (which no one knows a single detail about) in december to address the problem they are either grossly incompetent or don't care.

So did you hear back from istock if they will allow merging portfolios? Because if they don't then this whole discussion is kinda pointless unless you are going to be disambiguating thousands of files with no real guarantee of whether they will be approved and where they will end up in the best match.

« on: September 17, 2010, 00:11 »
Those are good images (much better than the toilet door) but compared to stuff we have in our vetta collection they won't make the cut... take a look for example at some dogs -

Can you justify why the agency dog costs 5x more than the vetta dogs?
