Just been accepted and started uploading...have to say it is pretty easy if you follow their guidelines...and approval is fast. The concept of uploading a shoot and then the related releases and not having to match appeals...unlike some/most of the other sites which are clunky. Overall I'd say they have a great system going and I hope sales are good.

And having grown up in Sydney I can't help wanting to see an Aussie outfit do well. ;D

The Clone Wars, begun they have.

...However, I can see the how this is a step in the plan for the future.

I think Yuri has always been looking for his "next big thing" beyond being a stock shooter. Which of course is smart. The guy is at a level where he shouldn't have to stand behind a camera anymore if he doesn't want to. I guess this is his next big thing and his way of ensuring a future for his company. He's building an army of photographers who will commit to 3 years of working for him, doing whatever assignment he throws at them. And I'm assuming he keeps all of the work they generate in exchange for the education and experience. So he's essentially building a massive library of new work that will carry the company for years into the future, and he's repeating the process on a yearly basis. The next bootcamp is already being planned.

I'm still a bit amazed that people are signing on to be taught something in a way that will make what they are learning more difficult to earn a living at when they're done with the program. Every new class means another group of people learning the same style and technique, becoming your future competitors, while also spending 3 years building up the Yuri portfolio.

So what's the endgame? My guess: a Yuri portfolio of 1 million images within a few years. It's brilliant, really, but only for him.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Building up a RM Portfolio
« on: February 04, 2012, 20:41 »
The only way I know of is to work with Blend Images, they require exclusivity for the images but distribute non exclusive RM widely.

I'm sorry to interrupt again, but isn't this like the little holy grail for us Microstockers to find non-exclusive RM agencies to spread our "RM" stuff to many trads?

All agencies mentioned (besides Alamy and Zooner I presume) are exclusive agencies or at least require image exlcusive submissions. So I can't imagine that these suggestions qualify to the OP's question.

Substitue the name Simon Cowell for Yuri and you can figure how this will pan out :)

Perhaps they are represented by the legal firm of Sue, Grabbit and Runne.

General Stock Discussion / Re: dreamstime better than fotolia
« on: December 08, 2010, 23:27 »
Fotolia are way down in 6th place for me...Dreamstime number 4 and have earned 4 times as much...

Why not simply let iStock/Getty slowly commit suicide? Their policies are heading that way and they need little help from us.

10 years ago they started messing with us macro guys, diluted and cannibalized the great brands they bought, and over the years many of us have slowly but surely moved away and regard them as nothing more than a necessary evil. If you care to look Corbis now have by far the stronger collection of RM and RF...and a far more appealing site...Getty's looks like a supermarket...finding great images on there is like trying to find organic food at Safeway.

I had a brilliant august with Veer and to me it seems like they are starting to take off, September is starting well also.

As far as the top earning scale goes for me it is Shutterstock, iStock, Veer, Dreamstime, Panther...then a vast gulf until Fotolia and a few other dead loss sites.

Whenever I've advertised valuable gear for sale on Craig's List I get the inevitable...I'll send you 500 more than you ask and you ship the camera to my cousin in West Africa...Craig's List should be able to block these MoFos.

No, not like that. You get big transfer or check more than your price. You keep the fee and send back the extra. You get big bonus for favor. But check is stolen and bank hold responsibility for you.
I see. But how can you be responsible for a stolen check someone deposited in your account?

They mail a check to you and you deposit it. The check clears because it is a fake using a real account number of a corporation for example, but appears to be real. You get the money, send the excess to a drop box. (which is usually Wells Fargo for example) Or they have an "agent" pick up a check... one way or another the person who gave you the check and the person who get the money are also duped into handling transactions but not the perpetrators.

Two weeks later the corporation discovers the fake check, the funds are reversed and you owe the money back to the bank.

The person who has the money has vanished.

That's roughly how it works.

The easy part is someone who sends a check for more than they owe and needs you to somehow send them the excess. It's a scam!

I think we may all be better off if the real Hindenburg did crash into the stock exchange and explode...less shysters to mess up our lives.

Veer / Re: Veer sales increasing?
« on: August 19, 2010, 16:03 »
After many months with a few sales to tease me I just saw 130 dollars worth today...so definitely worth the time.

I think it is George Bernard Shaw..."smoking is easy to give up...I've done it thousands of times" Like I tell my fiance I give up each night when I go to sleep.

I can't give up smoking though.
It's easy! I've done it thousands of times.

Isn't that a Twain quote (or paraphrase)?  (I mean Mark Twain obviously - not the twain in the wailway station).

Old enough to know better...

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but Apple products as props in macro shoots are considered OK, have never had an image rejected for that reason...apparently some time back Apple eased off and the reasoning as I understand it is they gain free promotion from their goodies being in images. Maybe the micros are being a little anal on this matter.

New Sites - General / Re: Sales at moodboard ?
« on: June 03, 2010, 18:23 »
Not a single cent in 6 months despite making reasonable money on almost all the other sites...give them a big miss...their upload process is painful and they edit tighter than any other site

Lightroom is a major omission from the choices...it's very popular and excellent.

It all depends on how accurate you want your color...no pain no gain.

yeah, it looked a little smoother running through lightroom (using the plug-in).  I don't use Lightroom though so I am wondering if it is going to be more work than I think it is worth.
Why? You just drop a DNG of the ColorChecker in the app, press "play" and in ACR you have a new Camera Profile you can apply to that lighting setup. Looks cool to me.

well assuming you took quite a few color checks during shooting you would have to make 10-20 profiles for each shoot.  Convert those 20 images from CRW to DNG format.  Open up the app, create the profiles, then in ACR find the correct profile and apply it.
In Lightroom, after having a DNG format, you can do it all there, create the profile and apply it to the images.

I dunno perhaps it isn't so bad, just with lots of little steps in the work flow it gets to be time consuming.

I believe the profile is then also available to ACR

It's an excellent piece of kit...I use the software with the full size color checker...do a frame at the start of each shot and get the color right for each set of images...it helps a lot with skin tones on Canon which can be on the red side

I plan to be brining it to Dublin so I guess people could test it out there since the software is free.

Do you use it with Lightroom or Adobe Camera Raw

Sales on 123rf...well praise the Lord...they have been as dead as a dodo for months now

General Macrostock / Re: Big growth in my sales at Getty
« on: May 20, 2010, 23:44 »
March sales at Getty were far better overall than for months and then dropped in April...it's the RF that is performing under par...but April really was saved by an RM sale of a 12 yr old image with a gross license fee of over 23K...there is life in the old RM boy yet.

Hi All,

This entire year each month is getting better and better at Getty RM/RF. I have not added anything but some motion clips in over a year and I just had one of our biggest months in two years. Sales are growing rapidly I sure hope it continues. Does anyone else see their Macro work increasing in sales? Love to hear if you have.
This past 2 months in Micro my sales have dropped for the first time since I joined. I hope that doesn't continue.
