Ignore that, it's working now.

Nothing changed but my password didn't work, so I clicked lost password and reset my password and still it says name and password don't match. What a shower!

I don't do micro (well, I tried it twice :) )  so all my time is spent on Zazzle, which is more what I'm cut out for anyway. It is hard work, and full time more or less - 2 years so far, but my best month so far was over $600. It's the sort of work I've always done, but without the client hassle. I hope by next year it'll be up to earning a living standard.

The forum is locked until after the weekend, there's a note in the 'news' section.

I think you get back what you put in at Zazzle - I gave up on stock (I could never get enough decent photos together), so I just do Zazzle, and a couple of others sometimes. It's well worth my while though. First time ever I made volume bonus level three this month.

You just need to fill in the w8 BEN, there's link in your payment options. Uncheck the US citizen bit, download the form fill it in including the bit where you can put your tax treaty country, and email or fax it back.

Maybe it's the new iteration of sunnymars, disguising herself as "Peggy".
;D
I raise my hand, I don't have any avis (whatever they are) mpegs or mp3s on my drives, in fact, I don't have any illegal software whatsoever.

Just because some people's morals are below average, doesn't mean the whole world's are.

$50.

Oh OK, make that 20 years or more then :' ( I guess I better find some more to upload)

Can't be that bad, I had my first sale! Disappointed that it was only .30 for an xlarge sub, but I knew I wasn't going to get rich - especially with only 40 images there since March. Another 3 years and I should reach payout ;D (I can't find where the minimum payout is, but that's irrelevant)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Site stealing your images

As soon as I went to that site my computer started downloading something. I don't know what but the only way to stop it was to quit Firefox. I don't think I'll be going back.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's mainly a phishing site - I clicked on a Paypal logo and Noscript blocked a cross-site script.
Be very wary anyone visiting!

I've reported it to Paypal anyway, if there's any naughty business, they should be able to deal with it.

how did you report it to paypal? (i've just spent last 15 minutes looking and cant find how - it used to be easy :()

No, their site just sends you round in circles now! I sent an email to abuse@

Newbie Discussion / Search results - which sites best?
« on: April 12, 2011, 13:15 »
Well, I've been here a while but I'm still a noob :)
Which sites come out best in specific searches (from a buyer point of view). I don't recall seing a thread here.

From my own perspective, I'm not too keen on the sites that don't do exact matches. I'm only with Canstock at the moment (and Zazzle, and...). Particularly relevant to me, a search for 'plow', shows results with a 'plowed' field, but no plows, and my 'plow' coming way down the 'field'. This is an enormous handicap to being found, and probably frustrating for a buyer looking for a plow and just finding plowed fields, excluding the handicap of the US spelling when it should be plough anyway! Just out of interest, are there any sites that show exact match first?

Look on the bright side - no such thing as bad publicity.
It's very sad to take out one's lack of self esteem on others. Google reveals he hasn't had much support elsewhere either  ;D

I'm having a real problem, Mac, Firefox. It doesn't show any status bar when uploading, so I ignored that, and found I'd uploaded an image. Now I've uploaded 2 images, but can only see one, even though it says 2 in 'Overview' there's only one in 'gallery', in spite of deleting cookies and refreshing. This is going to make it very slooooow! Camino is even worse - I guess I'll have to try Safari or (aaargh!) Internet Explorer.

Nope, both Safari and Explorer tell me the same thing - 2 in overview, 1 in gallery :'(

OK, solved that! Click on your existing image and the other one magically appears! - it's beyond me ???  Weird
Im not sure whats happening there, never experienced that. I will send you an email when i get back to office on monday.

Thanks - I've discovered the problem though - the upload status bar problem is because of Flash (and I'm stuffed there as the latest version doesn't support my old PPC).
The image not appearing is because I'm an idiot and was looking at my category folder image, not the images inside it :-[ (Bravely sharing my embarrassment in case anyone else has the same problem ;) )

The basic Pro level requirement was different last March - then you would have had to earn a minimum of $300 over three consecutive months - $100 per month average. Since they changed the plan just before Christmas, I don't think anyone has been made proseller yet.
But who knows, the way Zazzle works is a mystery.

I've been there 14 months, so it's not enough to give up the day job (if I had one!), and I didn't really know what I was doing for the first 6 months, i.e. putting photos on products and hoping they'd sell. It takes a while to find your niche, but maybe stock photographers (I'm not one) have a head start there.

When does one reach PRO status? Is it three months making a $100,- each month or just reaching $100.- in total? I have read both.

It's $100 earnings total, which most agree is a bit low. They'll only be 'inviting' new prosellers quarterly, so maybe things will happen at the end of March, if they make it April, I might just make bronze - no great shakes but at least you get a pack of free business cards.

Fans do absolutely nothing for sales - but there's no harm in having them ;)
Welcome to the club :D, I'm ruralfrance there (as someone kindly pointed out) - you'll find an infinite amount of useful advice in the Z forum. The main advice you need is lots of quality products, attention to detail, find a niche (there are a zillion valentine's day cards - I've got 2), have fun doing it though it's a full time occupation, did I mention pay attention to detail? Read all the stickies, I mean all, all the way through.
Once you get up to 1000 products it's easier, but I can't stress the "niche" enough. If you want to do hearts and roses you're already way outnumbered.

I see it now - it's taken me a long time to work this out!
So in effect, Zazzle are buying the license to use your image and paying the royalty, and where they sell the product (with a mark-up to cover the cost of your image use) is only between them and the tax office, whereas with a license to use the stock image, the buyer is paying the royalty.
I think I've got that right.

I understand that, but you need to get proper legal advice, not opinions from people like me who haven't really got a clue how it all works. If you find where that legal advice is, please let us know, as I haven't found it yet. And obviously Zazzle haven't got a clue either.

I know - euros are euros! That really gets up my nose splitting French euros, German euros etc, it's a bit of a con, but I still think you need help from your country regarding the legality of how they split sales. I can't say, and probably no one here can. Maybe an accountant is the answer - I haven't got a hope of finding one here that knows international tax laws.

I received my ITIN in december, and while it is certainly some bureaucratic work, it was not so terribly difficult, actually. I am glad I did it, no more worries now when another site requires it.

Thanks, you've spurred me on to go and do it - it's the certified copies of everything that put's me off, but hell, I got married here and that needed certified translations of everything + how many teeth your grandmother's budgie has.

I think if your country doesn't have a tax treaty Madelaide, there are no alternatives. I'm not even sure about foreign earnings in that case, you'd probably be better off finding advice from people in that country.

The problem is that these companies are all small (employee-wise), they don't know the tax laws any more than us, so when the tax man comes knocking, they just withhold taxes.
I don't think Zazzle has any offices outside the US.
I've been doing a lot of googling, and from what I understand, they should separate sales to other countries. Regarding tax treaties, I believe those of us from tax treaty countries should have applied for an ITIN, but Zazzle ought to know this as to get one you have to have a letter from them stating it's necessary (there's a link to the application information here http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/iw7.pdf . In all honesty though, it's not Zazzle's problem, as it's up to individuals to find out what they need to do. As long as Zazzle do everything legally that's fine by them (and tough luck everyone else!).
I still have no idea whether I need an ITIN or not though I'm inclined to think I do - and what a nightmare that application is! (from googling, I know this has been going on on the stock sites too). Even printbusinesscards, although I asked Tim some time ago if a W-8BEN was necessary and he said no, I can't see how they're going to have any different rules in the end.
@ donding, this doesn't really apply to US residents, and I'm afraid trying to comprehend French tax laws is hard enough! You probably get a different form.

That's a real shame, I was just about to start using it properly. :(
It's up for sale though, so one of you could buy it ;)
Very honest of them to refund the pro account difference though, I probably wouldn't have known otherwise.

Well said Tim, and it's nice to see someone responding with good manners.
