Newbie Discussion / Re: How long till the first sale?
« on: April 17, 2012, 04:15 »
It absolutely depends on the quality of your work.  It also depends on the needs of the buyers.   It took me two years to accumulate enough sales to achieve my first $50 payout.  It has taken me three months to get the second one.   Your experience may be different.  Meanwhile, I've learned a lot about photography, I've invested in some better equipment, and I've constantly increased my portfolio size--I'm up over 800 now.  I believe all those things have increased my sales.   Patience and determination are required equipment.  Don't quit your day job until you see how successful you are, but don't be discouraged just because this isn't the road to instant riches.

123RF / Re: Accepted images not in Portfolio
« on: April 17, 2012, 03:42 »
I've been contributing to 123RF for a couple of years, and the approval time is generally slower than their stated goal of 1-2 days.  It usually happens overnight Sunday night or Wednesday night, and then the images appear a day or two later when they are posted to the database.

At least, that's how it's been until this month.  I've had about four dozen pix approved since April 1, and none of them have appeared yet.  In response to my inquiry, I was told that the problem was going to take just a couple of days to fix--that was over a week ago.  My second inquiry got the same response, with the additional reassurance that the images are actually there and searchable on the keywords so we aren't losing sales.  Problem is, I know my pictures and my keywords, and they aren't coming up in my searches.  I copied off the ID number of one from my history page (remembering to remove my own ID from the front of it) and the search retuned no result.  I would feel better about the whole thing if they hadn't tried to BS me about the searchability.  It makes it all very depressing and it seems pointless to upload more....

So to distract myself, I took a couple of dozen of my best, mostly those with multiple sales, and started a new account at another site.  It will keep me from brooding about the problems, and I may even make some sales, who knows?

Newbie Discussion / Re: why can't I start a new thread?
« on: April 17, 2012, 03:12 »
Aha! so that's the secret.  I am not a bot, though a boyfriend who couldn't get my attention once complained that when I die they will cut me open and find a silicon chip where my heart should be.  I gave up the boyfriend and kept the computer.   :)  So now I'm off to research a question and quite possibly start a thread.
