Latest BS from SS is that they are rejecting model releases that they have previously accepted for years, with the statement as follows:

Model Release--A complete & accurate Shutterstock approved model and/or property release is required.

Generic model releases have been accepted for years, at least 10 years that I have participated in the business, not just by SS , but by all microstock agencies, now suddenly it appears either SS has changed their policy or employed some half wits?

Hey Jeff, hows things?

Apart from the silliness over at SS, things have been great, my granddaughter got Married, I got to walk her down the aisle, that was special, I have a wonderful great granddaughter who loves her papa (that is what the grandkids and now Great grandkids call me), I get to skype with them every couple of days. Trying to talk my wife into retiring and moving to Idaho or Washington ;-)
How goes it with you Ron?

For a long time now, the trend in corporate communications has been to say less and less in public, and to respond to questions by simply repeating previous statements while saying nothing of substance.  I think eliminating the role of these reps was just the next logical step.  There is really no need for these agencies to communicate with photographers at all; we're not their customers.
Until the day comes we all have enough and walk. Then the CEOs and the like will come begging.

I don't think they will come begging, they operate a pyramid scheme, always some new suckers out there who will just love to get their images seen. Many of us are at the point with the stupidity of reviewers that we are ready to dump them anyway.

Always amuses me when folks talk about "likes" on social media, I have been on most of them all for a long time, have any of them ever led to a direct sale, or a job - Hell NO!

I cannot trace one measly sale on any of the microstocks, or FAA, or Alamy to a social media site.

Laurin Rinder

I am also going to be with Laurin in March in Venice Beach, and will be doing a Death Valley, Mono Lake, Bodie trip right after, anyone want in can email me at [email protected]
BTW, about 8-10 of us are meeting up in March, so the more the merrier, come and join in the fun.
BTW Laurin and I have organized these free shoots for the last 3-4 years several times a year in both the LA area, the San Fran area and in the Sierras. We have done wildlife, landscape, and portrait sessions, covering Napa Valley, San Francisco, Sutter Creek, Plymouth and the Shenendoah valley wineries with private tours and tastings, you have to mix in a little fun with the serious business of photography :-)
I have also done sessions as far afield as the Teton National Park, New Zealand and the UK

Newbie Discussion / Re: White Backgrounds
« on: February 20, 2011, 04:32 »
Thank you this helps. I use the curves adj layer and than the white eye dropper- it really makes it white.

Doing it that way you'll run the risk of burning out the subject, better to overexpose the background 'in camera'. There are dozens of ways to get a white background and each person has their own preference, do what works best for you.
Agree, Using either levels or curves eye droppers results in the entire image being affected and lightened which most often is not the desired result.
Much better to get it as suggested 2 stops more light than the subject and thereby overexposing the background which should be at 255, 255, 255, anything else is not white.
Best tool to use for any cleanup is the Dodge tool set on Highlights and at 15-20%.
Best way to check background to ensure it is a true isolation, is to temporarily make a new adjustment layer, select levels, move the left (Black End) marker all the way to the right. Should end up with a hi-con looking like this, and if any cleanup is needed as is the case in this image use the Dodge tool to fix it, ensuring you have the background layer selected.
Then delete the adjustment layer
