Istock really have no morals! Robbing contributors! Making their banker owners filthy rich. Remember Klein bought a $10million apartment with your earnings.

It is the the great photographers that made istock the success it is. Sadly there exists nothing out there that can compete.

If some of the clever photographers at istock could create your own sales platform and everyone went there it could work.

Blend is made up of a small number of photographer/owners and they are now very successful. Bringing several million dollars.

Good idea if you can get some big names on board? What are Lise and Yuri saying? If you can get some heavy weights to support us it would be great. However they are so rich they probably don't care about the poor man and woman who has to scrap money together to put food on the table.

The fluffy love and adoration for istock is lost forever. I think people from the Trad/Macro agencies realised all along that Getty is the devil in disguise and Micro is bad for business. Getty treat photographers like stray dogs.. They always have. Now that bankers are calling all the shots. Money talks - nothing else matters.  I guess the Trad/Micro they can now say: "We told you so!"

I think istock will remain as market leader but  more people will drift to other micro, Alamy and sell direct.

There are alot of other agencies to work with. To begin with Alamy. I make very good $$$$ on there and they give you 60% on each sale. Yes 60%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Not some slave wage at 15%. And for big fees. Good people at Alamy. Can't fault them. However classic micro style wont sell too well on there. You got to submit editorial style.

The other big thing people can do which no one as suggested is group together and create an agency at Photoshelter. All the software/platform is right there, you set your own price. The only thing you have to do is market your work. The good thing is you keep 90% of sales. It could work in a big way.  :)

If you are curious where your hard earned money goes just look here:

Seems about right. Poor Getty boss is struggling so hard he can only afford a $10 million apartment in New York!

Istock made Getty filthy rich. Our hard work bought this Greedy PIG this!

Kelly really has no shame. This 3rd reponse does read like some awful romance novel. In it he is trying to groom us into accepting his shafting. SICKENING!
What does he care? As long as he gets his performance related bonus we can all go to hell. He does not seem to realise the damage he has done. This is a paycut based on greed.

Huge betrayal. I really thought they would back down but it looks like the bankers will have their way. Tread on the small guy to get greedy and rich. Istock is creating huge profits. I have no idea why they need more money?

Shocking betrayal. I thought istock would back down but Kelly comes out with a load of insulting BS. You don't do it for money! You do it to hang out with your friends - what an insult.
I believe Kelly has no control over these decisions. Kelly's bosses are Greedy bankers from Hellman & Friedman who paid $2.4 Billion for Getty.

So the accountants there have come up with this plan to take more money out your pockets. Sad but true. All these people want to do is make as much money out of this business even if it means treading on the small guy. And eventually sell it.

Getty has always treated photographers like crap. The first thing Mark Getty did when he bought Tony Stone was slash royalty rates. So they have a history of acting like assholes.

iStockPhoto.com / istock lies......
« on: September 08, 2010, 19:43 »
Istock is telling you alot of lies. To begin with istock is hugely profitably. It is the most profitable part of the Getty business by a long way. It has been a huge runaway success - it has made alot of money for Getty. So when Istock bosses tell you the current commission rate is unsustainable this is utter rubbish. A pack of lies. They could afford to raise your commission rates. However greedy bankers don't think like this.

What the bankers that own Getty want to do is make more profit form your hard work to make Getty more appealing for sale - fatten up for sale. So how do they do this? Take money from your pockets - cut royalties. To make it appear that profits are growing. When infact they are stagnating because of market saturation.

This is a PR disaster for istock basically because it is the crowd sourcing photographers that made istock the huge success it is today. And it is the photographers that could bring it down.
