Veer / Re: Veer experiencing site-wide issues at the moment
« on: November 03, 2012, 05:17 »
...and it's gone off again...

The only thing to remember is that Alamy is strict on people in images. So if you've got a blurred background figure or a bodypart that doesn't require a release on a microstock site and licensed under RF, you can't put that image on Alamy because any part of any person, no matter how blurred or small, requires it to be RM. And you can't have the same image RM on Alamy and RF elsewhere as far as Alamy's rules are concerned.

As long as you put them back afterwards you'll be OK. You might be liable for a nasty accident otherwise.

Oh, I see what you mean. Doesn't the same "usage" rule apply? Namely that as long as the warning sign's incidental and not the subject, there shouldn't be an issue? To be supersafe, maybe clone out any trademarks/logos on the warnings.

Indeed. But you can't help but admire Yuri and his project.

I only wish I'd thought of it when he did, had the same drive and the opportunities that Yuri created.

More power to him.

What's stopping you now?   One site is not the end all of opportunities for the rest.

Good question Sean. Life is getting in the way at the moment but I also think that Yuri got his timing spot on when he started a few years ago. Having said that, I'd be glad with a fraction of what both you and Yuri have achieved.

I have a fraction of what Sjlocke and Yuri have achieved and I am still not happy.

Well, yes. So do I. The trouble is that 1/100,000 is a fraction just as 999/1,000 is.

I wasn't talking about iStock or me.  I was pointing out that just because one business has sales, that isn't an across the board indicator that anyone can follow the same path.

Off Topic / Re: Leaf (as "part of a tree")

Great story.

I'm too much of a n00b to post any of my "interesting findings" but I live in hope.

Software - General / Re: LR 4.2 update

Bah. Still problems. Especially with the spot healing brush. Too slow to do accurate alignments on edges. Not impressed.

DepositPhotos / autofill file
« on: October 07, 2012, 14:45 »
Hi guys

I've just been accepted on DP and have been organising my first upload. In my pending file list there's a "Autofill file" with upload options, just like my image files. None of my first batch have anything in common so there's nothing to autofill.

Is it safe to delete it? I don't want it over-writing my keywords etc with blank space. I've emailed the DP helpdesk but I figure I might get an answer on here sooner.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Why is iStockphoto tanking?
« on: October 06, 2012, 05:04 »
iStock's new motto: "The whippings will continue until morale improves".

Just get an iphone - those other cameras cant text or make any calls - can you say 'useless?'
A father was visiting his son and asked for a newspaper.
Incredulous, the son said, "No one buys newspapers any more. We just check on our iPhones."
Disquieted, the father said, "OK, give me your iPhone then!"
The fly never knew what had hit it.

Made I larf  ;D

You're forgetting the pay off. If you invest in that camera now then the quality of your photography will improve because, you know, you've got a good camera, and your sales will increase to $17 per year meaning you could pay it off in 2118 years.

You have to think of the bigger picture (ooh, see what I did there?)

Veer / Re: Dashboard Issues?
« on: October 04, 2012, 07:22 »
Blimey, that was a faff. I re-exported the images at 90% quality (like it says to consider in the instructions) and reduced the size of the bigger (D800) files and it accepted them.

I'm trying to upload my 10-images-for-an-application set but it won't let me upload anymore than 6. I've tried different exports, different folders but it won't play. Bah.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Extended licences - implications
« on: October 04, 2012, 05:57 »
Yeah DT's sell the rights thing is confusing, both for us and for buyers.

Yeah. And if you break their T&Cs on the rights sale thingy, they promise to send out an assassination squad (paraphrased).

General Stock Discussion / Re: Extended licences - implications
« on: October 04, 2012, 05:11 »
Thanks. I thought I might have.

I was confused by the DT selling rights option; but I now realise that this is a sale of rights, not a sale of a licence.

Better get clicking those option boxes (again).

General Stock Discussion / Extended licences - implications
« on: October 04, 2012, 04:56 »
(Or "licenses", if you prefer).

If an image is sold with an extended licence, I get that it is disabled from further sales on the stocksite that sold it and that you have to purge the image from other stocksites where it is in your port ASAP.

But what about a stocksite that requires notice to delete a file?

Or have I got this completely wrong? It has been known...

Photo Critique / Re: IS Critique wanted for application
« on: October 03, 2012, 11:04 »
Since this convo my photography has gotten much better. I wish I just began shooting in RAW [snip]
I saw a young bloke, maybe about 16 or 18 in the Tuileries this afternoon (yeahm yeah placedropping!) wearing a T-shirt which said nothing but "SHOOT RAW". I was pretty impressed (can you shoot RAW on a Smartphone?). Unless one of the more up to date of you tells me it means something else completely  ::)

It's a drug reference.

Possibly.

Software - General / LR 4.2 update
« on: October 03, 2012, 01:57 »
The LR 4.2 update is out.

A quick fly through this morning suggests it's a lot snappier without the spinning beach ball of doom (Mac SL) every time I select a tool or zoom 1:1.

3 hours for you and mine have been sitting there for 6 days.....

They must have been absolutely gagging for some floaty bubbles.

Nope, no people. The batch was a mixture of orangutans, floaty bubbles and OOF flowers.

They are people, I bet.  I know I am no floaty bubble.  I do however have red hair.

Oh *.

 ???

Actually, you've got me. "Floaty bubbles" is a euphemism for "Alamy contributors".

Adobe Stock / Undone by a superquick review
« on: October 02, 2012, 09:39 »
I'd uploaded some images to Fotolia this morning and decided to delete one of them and upload an "improved" version of the same image.

They must have been reviewing the upload as I was deleting - the deletion didn't go through, the original file was approved along with the rest of the batch and my "improved" version was binned because of it being a similar file. :o

I've contacted them to see if they'll reinstate the better image.

Impressive review turnaround time though! Less than 3 hours.

I'm a n00b here and this is my first post so forgive me but I took a screengrab of that nested interchange, anonymised it, then applied a quick curves adjustment and sharpening and uploaded it to DP.

It sold instantly on an EL and earned me $2.78. My biggest sale so far. Expect to see it on tee shirts around the World soon.
