iStockPhoto.com / Re: Bullied by Istock??
« on: April 25, 2013, 06:05 »
Hi everybody,
i just experience a very interesting encounter with Misses K. N. from Istock.
It started with one of these weird rejections you normaly get only with little agencies (MR for a flower-bouquet or PR for a governmental building etc...).
I answered with a critique and suddenly Misses N. found some "Issues" in my profile and now it seems like she is searching desperate for a reason to get me kicked out .
And it seems like she tries that in a way that noboy can say its censorship against photographers who are not willing to shut up with every thing they do.

She digged very deep for a reason and now they suspect me that i  upload images which are not mine.
Of course i only upload images which are made by myself.

They come across with the argument that with companys (i run a company - but that does not mean necessarily that i upload images as a company) it might be a bit tricky.
Quote Istock:
"Since iStockphoto is really set up to deal with single photographers, it
is a bit tricky to work with a company that may employ several
photographers or artists."

I answered:
"-All required fields in the profile-section of your backend are filled out.
-I dont hire other photographers.
-All images are made by myself. "

If i am right with my "feeling" its one of the most unserious behaviors i encountered in 35 years of businesslife.
I really hope that this is just a severe misunderstanding and to clearify that i invite Misses K.N to give her statement here.
regards axel Lauer.

I need help to search certain items used for commercial fishing.
Namely snap clips for long line fishing.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Long-line-snap-clips-100pieces-4-stainless-steel-clips-4-0-swivel-decoy-rigs-/221195728486?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33804af666

I can find them for sale in America, but since there is a toll barrier its not practical to buy them form there and I want to go directly to the source: The manufacturer in China.
Can anyone help me conduct a search, and come into contact with a manufacturer or distributor in China?

I am in China,

How many images do you have in your portfolio?

I can make a deal with you and provide you a software solution for free if you allow me to use some of your images and/or contribute your images to my stock photo website. I pay 75% commissions to contributors.

I sell on istockphoto and getty, but I think any business that pays anything below 50% is a robbery, so I decided to start my own stock photo agency.
I am interested!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Photo taking in china
« on: November 05, 2012, 22:01 »
Hi folks,
Just wrapping up a long photo journey in China! What a place to explore! I carried model and property releases in my camera bag and brought my canon mark 4 itch me plus tripod.  Some tips that might help you if you venture here-

1. Have a translator if you don't speak Chinese - this will keep you from being taken in purchases and not getting lost
2. Have a plan of attack - map out where you want to go and stay on that plan
3.  Bring all your clothing - very expansive here almost 2 to 3 times more expansive that the USA
4  have lots of memory cards.
5 have a very good camera bag to hike. My bag looks like a regular hiking bag thus no body noticed my equipment
6 do not take tour group trips. They only take you to their places plus force you to go gift shops
7 hire a guide on remote places. They know the spots plus good prices for food as well.

Cheers.  T
I strongly agree point 3! After spend almost 6 years in USA, I came back to China, I found a lot of stuffs are much more expensive than US. Welcome to China!

Canon / Re: How is the Canon 24-105 L for stock?
« on: October 28, 2012, 18:08 »
Hi everyone,

i am thinking of buying a zoom lens for my 60d. At first my top choice was the 24-70L but since the new version is very expensive and the older one is getting more difficult to get, i was thinking about the 24-105 L.

How is it for stock? Is the Sharpness good?

Kind regards
Daniel

PS: I own a 50mm 1,8II, 28mm 2,8 and a 55-200mm (which i haven't used in 2 years).
I really think a 24-105 would fit in well :D.

I shoot 95% of my photoes with 24-105, I like it very much.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: New istock rejection
« on: October 25, 2012, 19:10 »
An image of a lighthouse was rejected for the following.

The keywords used for this file do not appear to be fully relevant to the subject. E.g. we see no coastline or shipping.

Under the new controlled vocabulary system that we now use, images need fewer keywords to do well in searches. The site handles translations and synonyms, so you do not have to.

I guess it could have been one of the many lighthouses found in rural Kansas that's not used for shipping navigation.

I also have something similar like yours in my is rejection.

Shutterstock.com / Different numbers in approved images
« on: October 21, 2012, 05:51 »
I found that in the contributor page, it shows I have more images accepted, but in the selling page, it shows less.
For example, I have 690 photoes approved, but only 680 on line?
Any one have the same problem?

Newbie Discussion / Re: New here!!!

welcome!!

Here are some statistics from our backend at PeopleImages.com from today :. Just wanted to celebrate a bit, since my sales are down on almost all other sites. :(
Peopleimages.com: 5 months in, $0 spent on marketing (to come later) and increases in sales by almost 100% per month. (Still low actual monthly sales, but with days like today, getting much closer to something that might actually go into profit one day)

Clients report two things they like:
The site is super fast and userfriendly. They are tired of waiting for pages to load on fotolia, dreamstime, istock, shutterstock, etc.
Customer support is extremely helpful and friendly.

Anyway. A little celebration. Y
Congradualations!

I think you are missing a dozen more areas you need to cover.
I agree

Selling Stock Direct / When I can start a photo selling site?
« on: October 20, 2012, 03:15 »
1. How many photoes I should have?
I mean, at least how many photoes I collected, including other photographer's input, I can start thinking make a website selling photoes!

2. How to handle the licence and contract if a sale is made

15
Nope.  That's what exclusivity means.
This is not reasonable.

'Not reasonable' for you, I guess.  Works for others.
yes, if it could largely enhance your sale , need to do a lot of clean work in the future! :'(

16
Nope.  That's what exclusivity means.
This is not reasonable.

17
You can have different images that are sold under rights managed licenses at other sites (such as alamy) but no royalty free images anywhere else.
Thanks a lot!

18
Please anyone know the answer? Can I have couple images in other sites that are not in istockphoto, when I become exclusivity to istockphoto? Thanks

19
* Shoot better images.
* Submit bigger file sizes.
Thanks!
