Cameras / Lenses / Re: Is equipment insurance worthwhile?

I also have the $500-$600 a year package with liability, errors & omissions, and equipment damage. I think the deductible is only $250, and it DOES cover even if I drop a lens or my kiddo puts something in the toilet.

Wow, this move makes me distrust that company even more than all the recent crap they've pulled. I don't know why, maybe it just seems so vindictive.  Sean will do fine, I have no doubt. istock on the other hand...

OK - I'm confused where I've posted, and where I haven't, but I deactivated around 40 today, with around 35 of my better sellers deactivated last week.  I'm interested to see what this week will bring. Watching, waiting, trying to balance business sense with personal ethics.

I did a test and tried to reactivate a 14 month old file. It's locked. Might need to try something newer and determine what the cutoff is, but it is NOT 18 months. I've deactivated some of my best selling older files (daily sellers). I hope I don't regret it because it's a done deal!

JMO, but I don't plan on reactivating anything I delete.  If you don't want a file deleted, you might think twice about deactivating it.  It seems Lobo has already made clear that people deactivating as part of D-Day may not have an easy time reactivating the files.

Yes, like I said, it was just a test. I was curious what the cutoff was.  My best sellers I deactivated are over 3 years old, so I knew it was a done deal - doubt they'd pass inspection again either!

Besides deactivation isnt strong enough, it can be reactivated. Deletion would be much worse but ofcourse they are not prepared to go down that road. Wonder why?
Me?  Im uploading as if nothing is happening.

You keep harping on this delete thing.  The reason nobody is saying they are deleting their images is because iStock doesn't have a delete option.  There is only a deactivate option.

Well Tyler I like harping :D but at IS, if you want to reactivate, they all have to pass new QC  ( new rules I think) and many older files wont make it.

I've read it that files over 18 months old must be reinspected, but I don't think we've had any official confirmation of that.
So it could well be that for many older files, deactivation would be an effective deletion.

I pulled another 10 or so early.

Total stands at 1102

Lost track of the total, but I have deactivated around 20 over the weekend, including my best sellers - red flames. I'll wait to do the rest (around 300) on the 2nd.

ETA - Couldn't get Sean's script to work for me, even though I was using it fine before. It spread the columns out noticeably, but didn't add a new one.

Did you open the options link at the top - the one where you choose the date format and which columns to display? That's where the checkbox is to select adding the deactivation box to the page

Thanks! That was it! Should be a breeze now!

I am in! I've already deactivated quite a few, but I am prepared to almost clean out my small portfolio and turn in my crown on that day for maximum impact.  Count me in for about 300.

With all respect I do not think that anything will change in IS unless some solid action on black diamond level happens. I am meaning people like Sean Locke, Don Bayley, Andresr, LisaFX, DKY59, mammamaart, etc. Furthermore, heavy uploaders from Denmark (not necessarily Arcurs) who contribute almost only lifestyle and business are another important group. So, let's say, if these people decide to negotiate together with another agency/agencies and pull their portfolios from IS things can change.

I was thinking something similar.  If a group of diamond and black diamond contributors, even just the non-exclusive ones, made a plan to pull out all together I would participate.  Perhaps we could agree in advance to begin deactivating images en mass on a certain day.

I think the usual arguments of "big sellers have the most to lose by pulling out" don't apply here.  If enough of us do it then we have the most to gain by protecting our livelihoods.

I'm small potatoes, but I would be up for an agreed upon deactivation for maximum impact. I'll be deactivating anyway, so might as well add some punch.
