Hi all, Does anyone have suggestions for camera & gear insurance? I've been looking into Front Row Insurance Brokers ( https://photographer.frontrowinsurance.com/). Does anyone have any experience with them or other insurance solutions? For reference, I'm in Canada and I would have about $12k replacement cost in gear. Thanks for any advice. Jean

Well I had nothing to post in this thread until today. I got a payment from Veer, but I never uploaded a thing there. I went to their site and searched my name and found the 10 images I submitted as samples a few years ago. I guess since they approved me those images automatically found their way into the collection. So $71 for 10 images for three years. I just spent $70 at Costco, so I'm up a buck!!
That's funny! Good return on your investment. I got paid too....maybe a trip to Costco is in the cards for me too. Cheers,

hi,
I was just wondering if anyone got a payment from photokore?
I requested payment after the 9th of December, and now my "earnings" page says "Total Paid Amounts: $ 93.39" but I did not get any payment. I wrote to them a few days ago, got no answer...
thanks!
I received my last payment from them on December 28th, 2015.

Got this email update today. I think it's pretty much the same information we had previously, with perhaps the added "Royalties will continue to be paid, regardless of amount, through standard processes throughout the transition period"' being new information. This would be consistent with the movement of royalties moving from "unpaid" to "pending" that many have noted here. Dear Veer Contributor,
Wed like to provide an update on the VCG acquisition of Corbis (including Veer) and what it means for you as a Veer contributor.
First a quick recap on the key elements of the acquisition: Corbis has announced the sale of the Corbis Images (excluding Splash), Corbis Motion, and Veer licensing businesses to Unity Glory International, an affiliate of the Visual China Group (VCG), a leading Chinese visual communications and new media business. Following this transaction, VCG is expanding its longstanding partnership with Getty Images, and, after a transition period, Getty Images will become the exclusive distributor of Corbis content outside China.
Whats next for Veer? As part of VCGs purchase of Corbis and expanded partnership with Getty Images, we will be transitioning Veer customers to iStock, and the Veer site will be retired on March 30th. New content submissions to Veer are no longer being accepted. Royalties will continue to be paid, regardless of amount, through standard processes throughout the transition period. Following site retirement you will be released from contractual obligations with Veer.
If youre already a contributor to iStock there is no additional action to take, you will automatically benefit from this customer transition. If you are not currently a contributor to iStock and would like to be, heres how to sign up: Step 1: Join iStockphoto: http://www.istockphoto.com/join Step 2: Choose a Member Name: http://www.istockphoto.com/create_membername.php Step 3: Apply to be an iStockphoto contributor: http://www.istockphoto.com/sell-stock-photos.php Please enter the code VEER in the Contributor Invitation Code field of the application process and the iStock team will expedite your application.
The Veer team would like to thank you for the partnership over the years.
The iStock team welcomes all Veer contributors not already working with iStock to sign up and contribute. We are excited to expose your content to more customers.
Sincerely,
The VCG, Corbis/Veer and Getty Images/iStock Content Teams

Given that Lightroom lists keywords alphabetically, which software do people use to keyword in order of priority?
Thanks in advance.

Shame it wasn't communicated to photographers first.
Do any of the agencies bother to do that anymore?
I got an email from Envato this morning about the new collection. Not much details in the email however.

Has anyone else noticed that everything seems to have come to a standstill at 123rf?
I have images pending for weeks...I have written to them with technical issues (images are missing from my portfolio) and nothing has been done. Also, my sales have come to a standstill.
What is happening? Or maybe it is just me?
I uploaded some files yesterday and they were approved within 24 hours. Sales have been consistent for the last while.

Here are some Canadian-specific information on copyrights. Canadian Copyright Act (revised in 2012): http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/c-42/section on copyright ownership: (3) Where the author of a work was in the employment of some other person under a contract of service or apprenticeship and the work was made in the course of his employment by that person, the person by whom the author was employed shall, in the absence of any agreement to the contrary, be the first owner of the copyright, but where the work is an article or other contribution to a newspaper, magazine or similar periodical, there shall, in the absence of any agreement to the contrary, be deemed to be reserved to the author a right to restrain the publication of the work, otherwise than as part of a newspaper, magazine or similar periodical.Another helpful site: http://capic.org/copyright-laws/Template for transfer of copyright example (not sure if it's pre- or post-2012 Copyright Act): http://www.snsyc.ca/files/public/pdf/Photo_Release_Forms.pdfHope this helps. Cheers, Jean

I got a whole lot today as well. However, most are for one image related to "Canada". Given that it's Canada Day on July 1st, I just the extra downloads were for an increase in demand to "Canada" images at this time of year.

This is a question that a lot of new folks ask thus I have a rough formula based on my stats (Below average photographer at best, photos only, no special area of expertise)
Here it what I have seen- now most of the sales are from the 25 a day download section thus cannot predict the monthly $$ amount. Also mileage may very per artist
Portfolio Size - Monthly Sales 350 100 700 200 1,050 300 1,400 400 1,750 500 2,100 600 2,450 700 2,800 800 3,150 900 3,500 1,000
Given that this was a discussion that occurred in 2013, I was curious to see if this was still accurate for most (give or take). Thoughts?

Hi all,
I'm thinking about getting the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens. My main goal for this lens is to use as a "walkaround" lens first and stock second. I've been told that it's not a very sharp lens despite the fact that it's an "L series" lens.
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Jean

Bonjour,
Yes your stock photography earnings (from all countries) should be part of your other earnings. At least that's the tax advice that I was given by my tax professional. I received T5 from the Canadian companies (i.e., Canstock) and I got my W-8 forms from the US companies. I declared all of these as part of my revenues.
My photo business is registered with the CRA, so I was then able to claim expenses to help offset the revenues (i.e., home studio and other shoot and travel expenses).
Cheers,

Got the email as well. If I'm in the top 10% of anything, it certainly has not translated into more sales lately.

Hi all, I think I recall reading somewhere on this forum that on one MS site you could download your own photos (no watermark) for free. So the site could, in theory, be used to store you photos....no, I don't plan on getting ride of my backup drives I can't remember which site it was. Does anyone know which site this was? Thanks in advance. Jean

Anyone heard of Vpuzzler? They contacted me via Facebook. I haven't done much research on them, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them.
Here is the Facebook message they sent me:
Hi,
My name is Marcin Roszkowski and Im the co-founder of a new media marketplace called Vpuzzler.com. Were currently gathering content in order to launch final version of our platform.
Im wondering what circumstances have to meet in order to have such professional portfolio as yours on board our project.
Were offering video (15-20 USD), image (1-9 USD) as well as audio (1-3 USD) in Royalty Free and editorial license. Would be grateful for information from your side regarding the conditions of potential cooperation.
Would be great to hear from you. Best regards, Marcin Roszkowski

Has anyone been to any of these SS meetings/workshops before?
I am in Ottawa, so I'm a 4 hour drive away. I'm considering going, but want to have a bit more info before I decide to make the trip.
