Image Sleuth / Re: Weird image (use) - ideas?
« on: November 29, 2011, 21:07 »
Although they are the same image, the first link I opened had a block of text hiding the man's face. I wonder if anyone who isn't used to dealing with stock images would even put the two together unless they happened to have just read the prior article.

It may be the same way that my images of people in handcuffs show up in news articles without a "stock photo" disclaimer but cropped to show hands, handcuffs and very little recognizable body (with no face or head).  In fact my daughter laughs at how many countries she has been "arrested in" based on where we find the images.

I do agree though that if his face is shown then he would have grounds to complain..as for sueing, I'll leave that for more experienced folks to decide.

Envato / Re: PhotoDune Non-ex Rate Increase from 25% to 33%
« on: November 28, 2011, 18:26 »
Actually image exclusivity is an option on all the marketplace sites.  You need to create an Exclusive account and upload the images you intend to sell exclusively at PhotoDune to that account.  To be clear, this means you will have an exclusive and non-exclusive account, but it will help you accomplish what you are after.

We look forward to seeing your exclusive images Lisa, Warren and disorderly!

Would that entail a whole seperate account, name, email, etc along with applying a second time?

Newbie Discussion / Re: how long for Alamy response?
« on: November 15, 2011, 07:40 »
The idea of waiting more than 3 days for an Alamy response used to make me nervous.  My account is set to automatically email me the responses from the review process.  But, over the past few months I've noticed that my images are already passed QC and waiting for me to finish them before the email notifications reach me.  Sometimes by days.  So once I upload I just "track my submissions" and not worry about it.

DT got back to me today..the image in question is not in their database, free or otherwise.

5
By chance I happened across an image of mine on Spiderpic.  The info provided credits me as the photographer and dreamstime as holding the license.  Normally I wouldn't be too bothered by an image being on a "partner" site except this image had been rejected by DT, and was not part of my portfolio there. Iin fact I had since placed it elsewhere as a RM since it appeared not to be to DT's or IS's  taste.
I have written to DT to have the image removed.  Anyone else find REJECTED images on partner sites. Ii have never allowed rejected images on any site to be used for free or sold elsewhere.

New Sites - General / Re: Art Film Stock
« on: October 05, 2011, 06:38 »
I ,almost, don't mind your change of heart as I had only uploaded a few images to you.  BUT, what I do mind is no warning.  Suddenly I can't log in and my email address is unknown to your system.  i want to know that my images have been deleted and an explaniation of why my account no longer exists.
I sent you a site mail regarding this, hopefully I'll hear back soon.

Zymmetrical.com / trying to leave zymmetrical
« on: November 14, 2009, 17:53 »
Hi.  I normally wouldn't post this here but my frustration level is getting too strong.  Earlier this year I contacted Zymmetrical to ask how to delete my images.  I received an email asking why I wanted to do so.  I responded and heard nothing else.  Since then I have opened two support tickets with the smae request.  Both have been ignored.
Will someone from the site please respond to this.

General Stock Discussion / Re: I found a book cover
« on: July 28, 2008, 06:04 »
I like your poison ivy pictures. This plant messed up many of my summers before I achieved to recognise them LOL

How did you taken the ones on white, did you taked them in your hands, even whit gloves you can be touched by the poison ivy

Thank you.  I wore a double layer of latex gloves and used long handled tweeers to fine tune the positioning.

I've had plenty of checks, but all the uses I had found were for small news letters.  Seperating micro from RM work is exactly what i am planning on.  what's on micros will stay there, some new images will still be for micros, the rest for RM, neither the two shall mix  ;D

Enough to get me off my a$$ and start submitting new style stuff to RM sites rather than the micros.   I consider it a personal "wake-up' call.  I'm calling it experience and learning from it.

General Stock Discussion / I found a book cover
« on: July 25, 2008, 13:49 »
This is my first "concept" image, I took it years ago.  I showed it to my daughter, who owns one of the hands, and she was impressed that her hand is now in bookstores.  Now that I have more experience, my new "concepts" will probably go to a RM site.  This is my second cover, but the first was for an online only book.

General Stock Discussion / Re: It's hot in here sometimes!
« on: May 31, 2008, 05:45 »
People who feel that they have been treated unfairly need a place to complain where they will be understood.  Most of us probably do not have spouses who would know exactly what we are complaining about.  They may be sympathetic, but they do not fully understand and cannot give advice based on actul experience with the micros.
If we complain on the forum boards than the sites actually do give a rat's tail about it.  They shut down the thread, remove he thread and possibly ban you from posting again.  At least here we can get undrstanding and advice from others who are in the same boat.
Does it make a difference in site policy? probably not.
Can it make a difference for the person complaining? quite possibly.

I had initially uploaded some of my best selling images to see what PSC was looking for.  For now i have simply "recalled" these images.  This allows me to put them back in the approved folder but does not have them up for sale.
I figure this will buy me a little time to decide what I want to do.

New Sites - General / Re: StockPhotoPro

I searched under bridge, a good selling catagory of mine, and here is an example of what came up.

among other blurry shots of people on a bridge with cameras

Think I'll stay away.

I finally made up my mind this weekend and decided to close my FP account.  I emailed them Monday morning and asked what would be the best way to delete all my images and close the account.
They emailed me back that afternoon and told me that my images had been deleted, my account closed and my earnings, which were well below payout would be deposited in my paypal account.
They emailed me yesterday and said that the earnings had been deposited.  When I check my paypal account, there they were, and had actually been deposited the day the account was closed.
Thank you FP.  I had not expected to see the earnings from there.

IMHO, the first image is perfect for adding effects..a designer can have the bird picking up any object they choose.  The second image does not offer that.  You may consider it "bad" because you are the photographer and you know how your birds are supposed to appear.  I'm not a designer but I can see multiple possibilites with the orignial image.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Monopoly
« on: May 02, 2008, 05:52 »
When I first joined IS i had a port of 2 images.  Life got in the way and i actually forgot about them.  When i looked several weeks later I had three downloads.  Now with a still tiny port on IS, only 50 images (but growing slowly) I still get daily downloads, usually multiples.  It's my fsult and only my fault that I'm not making more there.

Crestock.com / Re: oh, the humiliation...

What I would like to know is why a site which has REJECTEDan image feels it has the right to use that image in any manner other than for record keeping purposes.

Mostphotos.com / Re: ANYthing goes on MostPhotos
« on: April 28, 2008, 06:03 »
Mantonino..  please don't sell yourself short, if you found (nude) images on MostPhotos wrong.. then you are prude! Stand up and be proud.. ;)

I'm just sayin...if you were a web designer/graphic designer and you were downloading pics off MostPhotos and your boss walked up behind you while you found these:

Not work friendly pic 1

Not work friendly pic 2

Not work friendly link 3

would you have a job?

How many buyers do you think have seen one of those 3 images and *never* gone back to the site?  That's all I'm askin. lol

(Note: I don't mind searching for more. ;)  Like I said, I personally am not a prude in this respect - but image buyers are *mostly* people doing a job for someone else)

The third one is a actually a great stock concept.
The first one is just nice.
The second is for sure not my taste and from a photographic standpoint very purely made.
It's funny how the most prudish people insist that they are not prudish  ;D thank god i'm living in Europe.

Why can you not grasp the concept that the images being on the site are not the problem, the problem is that they appear whether someone wishes to view them or not. Clicking onto MP and seeing them splashed across the sites opening page is not "choosing to view them" it is having content that may be offense to some brought into the workplace.
If your answer to that is "it's funny that people are so prudish" then perhaps you'll consider it funny when your images don't sell very well because potential buyers are either blocked by work filters or totally turned off by the content that they first see.
Of course since MP refuses to implement reviewers to enforce their uploading agreement then I seriously doubt that they would enforce a content filter.
How about it MP, let's see a content filter in place by June 14'th 2008.

Bigstock.com / word nusage warning at BigStock
« on: April 23, 2008, 05:49 »
Here's an interesting warning I just got while uploading to Bigstock.  Mind you I was uploading images of poison ivy.

"You have used the words, "ivy, and poison", more than once within any of these fields: Title / Description / Keywords.

You may choose to ignore this warning and click the "Save and Submit" button to continue, but please consider that excessive keyword stuffing may negatively effect your placement in search results. We urge you strongly to make sure your keywords are accurate and not to use the same word(s) excessively."

How can you title, describe and keyword something if you can only use each word once??

23
I went for a name that conveyed photography but without the word stock in it.  I wanted to keep my options for using the name open for other types of work besides stock without having to have two names, two sites, etc.  I think that people might think you are limited in what type of photography you  do if the word stock is in the name.
just my thoughts

Off Topic / Re: Attention photo reviewers:
« on: April 20, 2008, 08:04 »

"Some of them have already contacted me through pm`s
I`m just looking for a few more..thats all"

aahhh, I get it now.  You're looking to hire way the top reviewers/inspectors from the current sites to work at your own.  That way you have an edge when you open up shop, the best reviewers now work for you.   ;D  very clever
