Microsoft. More customizable/upgradeable and cheaper.

They probably wouldn't be in business much longer?

Print on Demand Forum / Re: Print-On-Demand Sites Worthwhile?
« on: March 25, 2012, 18:44 »
I just started on Zazzle 3 or 4 days ago and have already had 2 of my products selected as 'Today's Best', which has brought in a decent number of views but still no sales. I've got about 130 designs (mostly illustrations) that I've been working through putting on products. So far I only have about 250 products, mostly just iPhone and iPod cases. I think I can get up to 3,000 products or so using the 130 designs I already have made. I don't like their quick create feature and I don't intend on putting my designs on every product they offer, just the products I think fit my designs. Cherry picking the products will certainly be more time consuming, but hopefully worth it in the long run as my store won't be filled with crap.

My store: http://www.zazzle.com/abstractzz

I haven't got around to creating a nice store design yet, obviously.

Something must have changed because my sales have improved greatly. If this keeps up, March may end up topping my previous BME, which was over a year ago. I'm just a small fry exclusive though, but I rarely upload new stuff so any increase isn't a result of that. (and none of my newer files sell anyway, sadly)

I took some pictures of Michigan Central Station a few years ago. Very cool building, there are plans to restore it.
Heres a picture of mine showing the detail.

I'm exclusive and sales have fallen off a cliff for me too. If things don't turn around in the next month or two I'll have to consider going back independent.

Had they done this a year ago they probably could have saved a lot of buyers from leaving. Way overdue but at least it's finally here.

For isolations it could be a game changer. For everything else it won't make much of a difference.

Someone showed me this and I thought it was pretty good:

If he were buried on land the location would become a shrine for all of Al Qaeda. Dumping his body into the ocean was the right move. I'm sure we'll get more proof in the coming days that it was actually him.

IS exclusive, no new files. Second worst month since going exclusive in August 2010. I'm not too fussed though since it was a short month and PP income hasn't been added yet.

Kinda funky how 40% of my PP downloads come from just one file, and that file never sells on IS.

« on: January 19, 2011, 12:50 »
I don't think they should have raised any prices this year but we'll see what happens. I'll probably benefit from the E+ increase in the short term at least. The prices are getting way way higher than the competing websites and that worries me.

Yea the 80% is a dead giveaway that it's not affiliated with IS or Getty.  ;)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Vetta Sale at iStock
« on: December 06, 2010, 23:38 »
It is a blatantly unfair thing to stack the dice (double the RC for Vetta sales until the end of the year) to benefit a small clique of favored admins get to their end of year targets.

You're arguing that the admins only select vetta files from their friends and coworkers? How . did any of mine get accepted then? The only time I ever post on their forums is to rant about all their idiotic changes. Exclusive illustrators have a right to be upset because they can't get into Vetta but that isn't a new issue. Nothing about this holiday deal is any less fair than whats been going on for months.

I've been very disappointed with IS lately but compared to their usual shenanigans this is nothing.

It's not like they are cutting the prices and lowering commission like they did last time. They are taking a hit because of it too. Plus it's just temporary.

Not anything to get all worked up over.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: File Replacement?
« on: November 30, 2010, 22:37 »
About a year ago I had them replace ~20 files with updated versions. They did it no problems although it took them a few months. I just put them all in a zip folder and uploaded to my host and they took it from there.

It was one of the rare positive experiences with IS.

Anti-virus programs are more of a nuisance than the viruses themselves.

I went exclusive at IS about 3 months ago, and while I can't say it was a BME (2008 was just awesome) it was easily the best month of the year.

21
I would wait until we see what effect all these announced changes have on sales before dropping the crown. I just went exclusive 3 months ago and am already making more than I was as an independent.

Istock was 25-35% of my income as an independent.

General Stock Discussion / Re: HDR: Why all the controversy
« on: October 18, 2010, 14:27 »
I love HDR photos because they are unique and interesting to look at. The few I have sell moderately well. For me hdr just adds the wow factor. They show you the world in a way that you can't see with your own eyes. If I saw advertisements using hdr images I'd be much more likely to stop and look at them. But I guess thats just me since you never actually see that.

General Photography Discussion / Underwater Camera Case?
« on: October 06, 2010, 21:53 »
So I'm going on a cruise in December and thought it would be kind of cool to try some underwater photography while snorkeling or whatever. So I'm looking to purchase a underwater case. Anyone here have any suggestions or experience with underwater photography? I've searched a bit with google and found some DiCAPac cases for around $120.

Here in a few years Wal-Mart will get into the microstock game and then all of them will die off.

Walmart? Nah. Maybe Google.
