Pond5 / Re: Any ideas to suggest to them?
« on: September 30, 2019, 09:15 »
I hope everyone realizes this "live" event is totally one sided as the chat function will be turned off.
They have already made up their mind on what they are going to do. It will be nothing nice for us.

You can make up all the ideas you want, I tried that on the pond5 forum. They don't listen and will continually blame everyone else.
I've been with Pond5 since they started and this is the worst I've seen, totally are not an artists friendly site any more.

Oh well, great addition for photographers. Doesn't work for videographers on Adobe Stock.
If they can add functionality to sharing video collections I'm in.
But I'm adding links to my vintage series on a website I created for that purpose already.
www.oldtimefootage.com

Does Adobe have an API that I can embed my portfolio on my website?

Thanks,
Jake

Adobe Stock / Re: Minimum Payment Commission Increase
« on: September 26, 2018, 08:54 »
Is this increase for photos or video too?

Adobe is doing things well. That move to give us a free year of Adobe cloud. Outstanding!
Thanks and great work.

Adobe Stock / Re: Two new Adobe Stock features
« on: October 19, 2017, 15:54 »
Hi All,

Take a look at the following blog post announcing the two latest features offering customization to your Adobe Stock portfolios!

Great addition but one problem. When I'm in "my portfolio" and want to select certain videos to place in a collection I can't search for those videos.
Unless I'm missing something.

Dissolve / Re: Dissolve price update
« on: August 17, 2015, 10:08 »
Seems they will offer from 20 - 45%  (that I know of) depending on who you are or how large your portfolio is.

Mine are already at $49 as of yesterday.
At 35% thats all they get.

So I guess you're saying you don't have any files that are stuck. :-\

This seems to be an old thread. But I just started to upload some video for the first time in about a year. They are all stuck with the processing line at 50% since Friday.
Is this still an issue?
I'm not going to waste time uploading more.

Oh if you still think PD footage is taking your sales. Fight back and use them in your own project :)

I used one and put me in it using my Iphone. Hasn't sold but it was a fun little project.

I still cant fathom how video professions can feel threatened from archive footage.
Archived footage is not just conveying an idea or a message but the social and chronological context in which this action is taking place. So it's very specific by nature.
Meaning that unless you produce very accurate representations of an era (and even then i doubt if it's relevant) then you have no reason to feel that you are losing sales from scanned 8-16mm b/w film.
Im afraid of losing sales too but not from archived footage.
Can we please stop chasing dragons?

I have to agree with this statement.
Why would you think this public domain video is causing sales to drop? I certainly don't see commercials on TV using only PD footage.

I shoot a lot of "vintage" type video from different eras of the 1800's to the mid 1940's. My film noir clips are still a great seller even with PD footage.

Some WWII fighter pilot videos I shot on green screen and CG. They sell pretty well.

The point is old grainy footage is for specific projects, I can't see any reason they would be making sales slump. Probably its because there are a ton of clips like what you may produce.

Dissolve / Re: Dissolve price update

They're obviously obsessed with their own self importance. Telling us to contact them whenever we make a price change elsewhere. The sheer arrogance is astounding.
I guess the question then is, if I decide to increase the asking price at P5 to something like $150 or $ 350 for a series of clips, will Dissolve follow? It has to work both ways.

No, they will only price match to the lower amount.

And who is signing up anywhere these days exclusively? WOW talk about putting all your eggs in one small basket.
It has to be people that are new to this business.

I have about 1300 uploaded out of my 5400 clip portfolio. Glad this happened now instead of when I had all of them uploaded.

Well thank god they dont seem to feel threatened by videohive/envato (yet). They sell hd for 7.5usd there.

Oh man, thanks for bringing that up. Now we'll get an email saying the price will be matched to $7.50 :)

I just don't see what this is telling their customers. Are they so insecure with their own business that they have to immediately change prices to a competitor?
I mean Shutterstock selling at $79, Dissolve $80 so they reduce $1.00?
That $1.00 made all the difference in your bottom line profits?

Great writeup James. I'll share that on my Facebook and Twitter feed if you don't mind.

I'm pretty upset at this. For one thing it makes Dissolve confusing to customers.
Why would some files be $49 and others $79 or yet more prices if you are going to "price match" per contributor.

Also you are saying customers are searching for "my" clips on different sites? That clearly is what this is about since you are pricing my clips to $49 and not a site wide $49.
If that were the case my sales on VB would be through the roof and sales on my other sites would crater. That isn't the case, nor has that ever been the case with any other site that prices differently.
People in general may shop around but they aren't shopping around for "my" clips which is why I said in the beginning you are just making Dissolve confusing.

So yes, I sell on Video Blocks. That was a business decision since I also get 100% of that deal.
On your site I would get $14.70 for selling an HD video? Actually that would stop me from uploading the rest of my portfolio to you since $14 is a slap in the face.

When I signed up with you guys I told you there was a trust issue with that $5 debauchery. This isn't making that trust any stronger. Seems like a Istock thing to do with their tier pricing thing. That is crazy too and I stopped uploading to them over a year ago.

New Sites - General / Re: Dissolve
« on: September 18, 2013, 13:40 »
I found out a new site I signed up with partnered with them
T3Media.com
I emailed them a couple of times. no reply. I wonder why. I'll call them this afternoon.
1400 of my clips that I uploaded to T3 are now on Dissolve at $5.00
Anyway, I'm pulling my work from T3 after this deal and I would never work with Dissolve.

Jake

I doubt it's "stolen".  Most likely one of our distributors has made a real lousy deal with them.  I'm trying to find that out now.

Edit: So far, the contributor email listed on their site ( [email protected] ) has bounced back to me as an invalid address.
