Well, I started my journey a couple of months ago with nothing more than an iPhone 5 and the Fotolia Instant app. Today, I made my first sale. What a rush it was getting that email!
Getting $0.25 has never felt so good.
I've become something of an avid iPhoneographer, with more photo editing apps than you can shake a stick at. Photos are really looking good.
Anyway, thanks for getting me started!

I suspect these days are gone.
Look at what you're competing with already, i.e. check what the agencies have already, and consider what you can offer, which buyers will want to buy, that hasn't been done to death already, in higher res than you'll be able to offer.
Your competition already has a far stronger position on any site's algorithm.
All good points. Perhaps it would be better for me to just save up for a few months and purchase something of higher quality. Something to think about.

^^ You might get an OK body only for that price, and budget a lot more for a very good lens.
That's what I keep hearing. I've got one daughter going to college next year and two more in private elem school, so I'm trying not to break the bank. I'm hoping I can start with something small, then make enough to upgrade down the road. Not sure that seems entirely possible looking at DSLR prices, though.

Will do. At the moment, plans are on hold as it looks like a DSLR camera is not in the works for Christmas. I may have to pick one up after the holidays. I'm trying not to spend a mint on a camera...hoping to start with something under $500. Haven't found anything yet, but still looking!

I don't know much about FAA but I do have it bookmarked as one of the sites I'm going to be checking out soon.
I'm fairly new at this, but I clicked on your link, signed up to your newsletter, and bought your eBook over on Amazon so I could read it on my Kindle for iPad app.

Yes, I'm realizing that maybe I'm not into "mobile photography" as much as I'm just into regular old photography, albeit with a tiny iPhone camera. I really don't want to iPhone app my photos to death. In fact, I rarely use anything besides the Camera+ "clarity" filter.
I am a very creative person, which I suppose is where this energy is coming from all of a sudden. I sing, play piano & guitar and direct my local church band.
Perhaps it's time to suck it up and invest is a decent camera and take things to the next level. Yes, I've been giving serious thought to taking a photography course. I'll check out Kelby Training.

Good point. I guess my photos are more of the "wouldn't this look nice framed" variety.
I took a look at your Stocksy gallery and I can see what you mean by making sure the photos have commercial intent. Holidays, occasions, events, etc.
What kind of DSLR camera would you recommend starting out with?

Hi all. Baltimore dad of three here with a passion for mobile photography. I've decided to get into Microstock as I find the industry to be really fascinating. I've got the following Microstock apps on my iPhone 5: - Foap - Scoopshot - 123rf - Fotolia Instant as well as photography apps like: - Camera+ - ColorSplash - AfterFocus - Tadaa - Snapseed I've also uploaded some of my best stuff to my Flickr gallery. http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrismontcalmo/Anyplace else I should check out/sign up for? Anyone doing this as their full-time gig? I know that might sound far-fetched, but one can dream, right? Thanks! Chris
