General Stock Discussion / Re: How much saturation?
« on: April 02, 2007, 05:16 »
On the color management topic, I use ICC profiles for printing. I do not use a calibration device on my monitor. I almost bought one even though my prints acceptably match what I see on my monitor, but reading the latest edition of Professional Photoshop talked me out of it. Dan Margulis has a few chapters devoted to color management and is really against using electronic devices for callibrating monitors. He sure got me to buy in to his arguments.
so what is Dan's reason for not using electronic devices to calibrate monitors?

Cameras / Lenses / Re: cheap camera gear
« on: February 25, 2007, 11:32 »
I have been looking around for a little business opportunity, and just found out about drop shipping.

Not sure if you guys know about this. This is where a wholesaler lets you sell their stuff - on eBay for instance - and pays you the difference between the sale price and the wholesale price.

They handle all the stuff, postage etc.

I joined one group in Hong Kong and the Canon gear was about 20% less than the prices on eBay.

Anyone else got any experience in this?

Might be a way just to get cheap gear for  yourself, since there is no minimum purchase numbers.
Are you doing this through Doba?

The only submit button that's there is on the bottom and when you click it all it does applies the changes you have made such as added/changed keywords, changed categories etc.

Can somebody tell me what I am supposed to do with the images I edited in the bulk editor?  They just sit there, how can I get them to show up in Home?  I have other images that I uploaded through the website and they are nicely displayed in Home showing me how many downloads and views they had but I can't seem to figure out how to move the FTPed images there.  I searched their forums and others have asked the same questions but none of them were ever answered.

thanks

Can someone explain the ranking? How do I know what my ranking is? How do I change my ranking?

Ranking: how good you are. How do you know: by having some pictures sold. How to change: by being a good stock photographer.

How do you get your pictures sold if you are at the end of the search because you just started and haven't sold any pictures.  You can be an awesome photographer but if your picture doesn't come up on the first few pages because your ranking is low because you haven't sold anything yet then there is not way you will sell a picture and your ranking will stay low.
So I guess it sucks  :'(

yeah i think dreamstime is going to be one of the top sites sooner or later. They are growing slowly but surely and have good returns for the photographer.

I FINALLY have one image that is level '2' or whatever they call it. I now get $1.50 for web downloads and $3.00 for High Quality downloads from that file. Very nice.
how can you tell what level your pictures are?

Sorry, I meant to say big enough. Currently, when I export as jpg from Illustrator, the size is like 500x700

Thank you.

Quick question.  How do you make a realy high resolution jpg from Illustrator file?

so how do you actually submit a vector to DT?  I tried eps and it doesn't show up anywhere.  There are no instructions on how to do it.  There are no specifications on whether they want eps or ai files and version number.
Seems very disorganized.

I liked it more before  because I could see the number of downloads per day, now I have to click on the particular day to see it
So I guess I don't like it :(

actually last week was really good for me.  Probably the best week of all since I started (04/01/06).  Even the weekend was not bad for a weekend.  But today is horrible.  2 downloads only.  I even had more downloads when I had 30 pictures up.  I have about 160 now.

How is shutterstock doing for you today?  I average about 15 dl/day with 160 pictures. Last Tuesday I had 36 downloads.  Yesterday 18.   Today only 2.  I find it very strange.
How is it for you?

How are things going there for you?

i have had a total of 3 sales and earned a total of $560. I have had images there for a little over a year. So it sounds not too bad, but I earn almost that much on shutterstock each month... so it isn't really that great.
how many pictures do you have on Alamy and how many do you have on Shutterstock?

So far I only had a chance to shoot for one day.  My first imression is WOW.  I absolutely love it.  My RAW files look so much nicer than out of 20D which I sold.  I sold 20D and 10D to get the 5D.  I am very impressed.  I like the full frame.  I am very happy.  I also got a new lens.  The 24-105mm.  I like it too.  I solfd my 24-70mm to get the 24-105mm.  I just had to get a lighter lens.  I travel a lot and the 24-70 was just too bulky.  I will shoot more this weekend.
