I'm at level 3 in video and by now I see a drop in earnings of 30% - 40% let's wait for the EOM to see.

they now pay me 25%, before 30%

the videos are now reviewed in a few minutes and this is probably because few people are uploading.

Anyway is the contributors follow the earnings, the customers follow the contents, and probably Adobe will be the new market leader for pictures and Pond5 for videos.

Adobe is making a good review of our contents, they never refuse something without any sense.

Pond5 is accepting too many videos for its lower customer base, a better selection should be better, but probably they now want to reach Shutterstock videos amount to compete better.

Fiver sometimes takes these AD down when someone reports to them...

but the agencies have to remove their accounts too and take legal actions or they will make another AD again.

It's important that WE ALL monitor Fiver and report any violations because they resell pictures and videos from every agency, not only storyblocks !
so we all are hit by this !

this is amazing:

The price per image is $5 and it's fixed. So please don't bargain.

I provide stock images from these following websites:

Visualab,
they change the AD, because sometimes they get banned,
we just have to monitor Fiverr and report the fraud AD to stock agences and Feverr too

Storiblocks is the most used because of unlimited download, but they can take the content from subscriptions account of Pond5 and Shutterstock too
I've reported them in the past but I don't know if they have investigated it, I just see that these AD changes and reset, so probably someone else is reporting them to Fiverr.

Fiverr checks manually every advertising before publishing for errors and wrong categories, so we need to report them all the resell activities and maybe one day they will be able to stop them before they are published.

to find a resell action just search for some stock keyword or videoblock and read the ADs to understand if the guy is selling its own videos or "millions of videos" or "any video from" that obviously are not of him.

examples:

I see that on Fiverr there are a lot of sellers that resell stock footage and pictures, that come from "all you can download" accounts, especially of storyblocks, but can come from any stock agency with low subscription plans.
We are all involved because they can access to yours and mine contents too.

I periodically make a search for them and report to the stock agency where they take the videos for the account to be banned and I report to fiver too.

some examples?
go to www.fiverr.com
and search for "videoblocks" , "storyblocks" or "stock footage" or "stock images"

not all are violating the terms because some are selling their own stock videos, but you can easily find the fake ones or contact them to investigate where they get the videos...

please help me to stop this behavior that is taking down our sales!

and beware to give your contents to an "all you can download" collections !

VideoBlocks / Re: another good news from storyblocks?!!
« on: July 19, 2019, 17:02 »
dear all
the things are worst than this!
some people are reselling the unlimited libraries of pictures and footage on platforms like Fiverr

try to search for "stock footage" or "stock images"  and you will find some offers about contents re-sales from these unlimited libraries!
These offers sometimes disappear, so maybe someone reports them periodically and they will start a new account with the same offers.

this is the chat I made with one of them to check what he was offering...
I invite you to do the same, make screenshots and report all to stock agencies, this is not the only case you can find.

VideoBlocks / Re: Alternative for Storyblock
« on: July 19, 2019, 16:08 »
hi
Storyblocks  has introduced the Member Library Partner Program
did you receive the invitation too ?

so now they are moving to "all you can download" format
an if you search something in their site they show those contents first

I fear that this is not good for all video market but I've not agreed to tell you if I gain more money or not.
anyway since few months I only sell 1 video per month on Storyblocks with a portforlio of 6000 video online !

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS Search Surprise!
« on: November 12, 2018, 17:31 »
No its not conspiracy!  its a fact!  SS do tamper with our earnings!  you know this isnt the only forum! there are two private forums and the criteria for joining is that you are a full-time photographer!...at least 70 members joined SS between 2005-2007 and some have giant portfolios and special portfolios and every single one is down at least 60-70%, every one!! so its no coincidence!

Most members here who have only been with SS some 5 years or less havent gone through what we have experienced!  hence they find it impossible to believe any capping and controled earnings, theyre of course worried about their own future!

Anyway screw it!  who cares? I mean really! remember Gostwyck, Liza, myself, you etc, etc, when we all many years back agreed that everything good will come to en end!....well it has!

I'm a full-time photographer, may I join that forum group ?

I agree with you but it's all clear here:
https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/SSTK/shutterstock/net-income

starting from January 2018, they have probably made something to keep more earning and share less with contributors, a 370 % increase year-over-year.

In my experience, the search algorithm now pushes the files of senior contributors higher, even when they have low resolution and low quality and have never sold 1 time.

probably we all have a rank number depending on seniority and the number of sales and online files, and that could be used to list the popular results...
but the down of 60-70% is because of the 370% of less earning on the table !
so the senior contributors probably have lost less than the newbies.

I'm in from 2015 with thousands of files and my loss is zero, just because I've doubled my portfolio in the last 18 months, so it would be 50% if I wouldn't upload anything.

the most senior contributors with a much bigger portfolio, build in 10 years, could not compensate just one year such loss, just uploading some new files, and so they have registered a big decreasing.
but we all have lost a lot.

did someone contact Shutterstock to complain about that ?

I hope that in 2019 they will balance it back, so it's important that we all report our loss to SS to convince them to roll something back.

try to do some more test changing the IP of Chrome with this app:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/touch-vpn/bihmplhobchoageeokmgbdihknkjbknd

and deleting the cookies before.

SS could show different results in different countries

I see little different results from Italy for "sliced tomatoes"

A friend and very established lifestyle and fashion photographer asked me yesterday if it was worth joining SS with some 3000 files!  I said forget it!  go to Adobe/Ft, he will!

Funny but just over a year back one would undoubtly have recommended SS!...not now though, chanses are the guy comes back at YOU!

I would never suggest to a friend of mine to join microstock market if he has any other way to gain money with photography.
In the time he will take keywording 3000 files he can make a lot of photographic services in the real world and earn much more money.

3000 pictures will stop to sell in a few months, stock photography has not a big lifespan as some years ago.
(and Fotolia rejects 50% of files usually, so count 1500)

The past few months my SS income has been very fluctuating.

July and August were better than average, which is unusual for the summermonths. Then came September that was the worst since August 2016, followed by October that was BME by a large margin. November is very calm, and it could end up like my September.

Sometimes I wonder if there is a backlog in sales reporting, so that sales that were not reported during one month or several months, sudenly gets reported in a following month.

the same trend for me: July and August good and September 2018 less than usual, but September 2018 has only 30 days with 5 full weekends, so 10 days of low sales by default!
And September was a holiday month for many customers in the world.

For me SS is very linear since years for pictures and very variable for videos.

the results change anytime, and it has sense in the theory of a monthly or weekly cap for anyone: if one has sold too much in that period of time, his pictures will go down.

I notice a cap only for pictures, not video, I'm earning the same amount of money (for pictures) every month for 1 year and a half, with a slight difference of 10% ... uploading 300/400 new pics every month constantly.

I wonder what will happen if I stop to upload for some months, but I'm afraid to test :)

13
Hi Guys, I sell on average about 6 to 7 images per day. But since yesterday there has been no sale. Should I look for support?

hi
how many images have you online in SS ?

« on: November 09, 2018, 19:20 »
as you can see here:
https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/SSTK/shutterstock/net-income

from December 2017 they are increasing a lot the net income, after 2017 in loss (YoY in red)

just hope they will balance better our revenue in 2019 to return at the 2016 level.

I've doubled my portfolio in one and half years and I earn the same monthly money :(

I suggest you all in invest in SS shares :)

15
I got some big licenses on Fotolia this month
maybe Fotolia is growing more and more, but very far from SS

But Fotolia only sells commercial pictures,
so it depends on your portfolio, it you have a lot of editorial pictures and video, SS will always perform better,  you should compare commercial pictures only, but there is not a separate report for those

NO

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 "Great News"
« on: November 08, 2018, 07:36 »
the problem is that now Pond5 accepts too many video with low quality and their algorithm show the results the senior contributor.

so you can upload the best videos of the world and never sell anything if you are contributing since less than 5 years with a big portfolio

Thomas its obvious SS have stirred the pot again.  Looking at my most relevant/popular/what ever it now shows piles of junk from way back when which never had any sales and all the really popular stuff has been thrown to page 4 & 5

They really can't help themselves :(

this is the explanation,  this is their total income in the history:
https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/SSTK/shutterstock/gross-profit

this is their net income:
https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/SSTK/shutterstock/net-income

in 2018 probably they have reduced in some way the revenue share to gain more money, after years of flat internal earning
this is my theory :)

Shutterstock.com / Re: Why Shutterstock is accepting everything
« on: November 08, 2018, 04:21 »
about the main subject "Why Shutterstock is accepting everything" :

in my experience,  Shutterstock was accepting everything for videos 1 year ago, now they are more selective and don't reject randomly but each video that has some issue, you can resend, and generally, they are refused again if they have some problem.

the person that will review them is not always the same.
other agencies like Pond5, have made the opposite and now accept everything, they just refuse the big violation of the copyright of what they cannot sell at all.

about the salary of the reviewers, I think that they cannot pay more, because they have a lot of files to review quickly  and the money they earn is not unlimited and they prefer to distribute to contributors

if you look at the SS stock option trend and company public charts you can find in google, you can see that they have grown a lot in terms of gross-profit:
https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/SSTK/shutterstock/gross-profit

but the Net Income was flat and depending on their revenue share.
This year, after many years of flat income,  they have probably changed something to keep more money for them, saving in RS or salaries:
https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/SSTK/shutterstock/net-income

So they cannot pay too much the reviewers if they want to survive

General Midstock / Re: OFFSET, image or series exclusive???
« on: November 07, 2018, 20:35 »
are you sure that OFFSET accepts exclusive images only?

I don't think it's worth to give the exclusivity of an image to anyone,

no agency sell enough to deserve exclusivity in 2018!

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock Search Algorithm
« on: November 07, 2018, 17:18 »
I think that each contributor has a rank, depending of some variables like: number of files, acceptance rate and sales.

the "minimum guarantee" of earning can be influenced by the search algorithm, to set your pictures in first page or not.

obviously, they can only influence it to help you to reach a minimum cap, but it cannot be for sure,
anyway for my pictures: I see a constant earning for many months with a slight increase in earning, increasing the uploads.

for my videos they are not constant, each month is very different in sales.

24
Shutterstock.com / Re: Why Shutterstock is accepting everything
« on: November 07, 2018, 12:51 »
anyway only the FIRST PAGE results of "popular" will sell
so the quality is always the best option to follow.

« on: November 07, 2018, 12:28 »
Hi,

Shutterstock definitely has a search algorithm where they control a contributors earnings.

Can anyone tell if it is based on the number of sales?

I am thinking of deleting all my photos and just having videos with which I earn more.

Maybe the photos should be in a different account.

Any thoughts?

Do you mean that Shutterstock tries to decide how many money we can earn in a month?

if you mean that, this could be possible, I notice something similar about minimum earnings I have every month on the picture sales.
This could be fair for everyone, to give to each contributor its piece of cake, depending on his commitment.

everyone can tell if their earnings have a linear trend with a "minimum guarantee" or it's totally random ?
