yes, you would need to register for GST if you are selling more than $30,000 (outside a stock agency) through your own store in Canada.

from my experience, different sites handle this differently. It is too bad though that it still seems hard finding some sort of common denominator for ALL meta data -- EXIF and IPTC etc...
