Alamy.com / Very little sales
« on: June 02, 2020, 12:10 »
Hi decided to give Alamy a go so uploaded 420 pic no rejects, including some of my best sellers almost a year on and i have had only 2 sales if you compare that to s :-\s about 1200 downloads so whats the trick to selling on this site.

do you have to upload on a regular basis.

or is there only certain subjects that sell on this site

Sensor dust is not going to show as white so you may be missing something the editor is seeing....?  Or, the editor is way off base.

I assume you view your images at 100% to check for that stuff....

Always view at 100%  and yes i think the editors are way off base not only that when they make these mistakes they them tend to reject the rest off the batch.

I about 500 photos uploaded to 6 different sites and there is absolutely no reason not to do that. I have noticed however that the few exclusive images I have submitted to DT tend to a bit better .

Shutterstock.com / can't find my own content
« on: April 13, 2017, 01:43 »
I recently had a photo accepted by SS,  I think it's a good one and have hopes for it. Today I did what I sometimes do and went on Shutterstock without logging in as me to check it's there however it does not appear on any search later photos on the same subject do but not my best photo.

if it does not appear in searches how will it ever sell

Should I delete and reload

my average is conciderably less than that so i would say you are doing very well. I have just over a thousand on line about 45% of which have never sold a all and 50% of my income coming from about 5% of my portfolio.

iStockPhoto.com / Deactivated Editorial Photos
« on: January 18, 2017, 08:49 »
Istock have deactivated all my shoots of Triathlon events 30 photos saying they no longer want that sort of editorial images.  They suggested I upload them to Getty images.  Is this the right place to sell them ? anyone suggest a better site ( I already sell on SS, DT, Bigstock, Deposite  and 123.

SS and Fotolia are both good I sell better on these than IS. Also the keyword tools on SS allow you to upload a lot quicker.

« on: January 07, 2017, 03:40 »
I had a couple of 23 cent sales , I queried it with Fotolia saying my minimum should be 27 cent , I got a reply saying the sales in question were  in fact credit sales and not subscription sales.

If you are getting images rejected by SS for not being sharp enough try making them a bit smaller and re-submit this has worked for me. As for subject matter travel photographs do sell but not that well.

300 images on stock sites is really not enough to expect any sort of income I have 960 and get about 100 downloads per month from SS, Dreamstime comes and goes i'll get nothing for 3 weeks and sell 5 in 3 days I stop uploading to DT a couple of months ago.
The search protocol on SS favors newer content so it is important to upload on a regular basis I operate a system holding back images so I always have something new on my favorite subjects this helps the existing images keep selling. SS represent about 60% of my MS income I also do quite well on IS and Fotolia.

I haven't submitted anything to microstock in a long time and will probably never do so again.   With about 300 old images online, my expectations are pretty low these days.  But I'm thinking about starting the new year by cleaning house.

In the last couple of months DT has completely dried up;  I barely made enough in December to pay for a latte.  Time to end it.

For SS it's been a year of out-of-control spamming, junk portfolios getting side-loaded without inspection (like those 30,000 photos of pot), crazy rejections wasting everyone's time, and steadily declining sales for individual contributors.   I've been waiting for them to make some "exciting announcement" about a new giveaway or royalty cut, but at this point they're in such chaos they probably wouldn't even announce it.  So I'll dump them too.

I was ready to give up on Alamy after months without a sale, but got one a few days ago that netted me $10.   I really have nothing against them, so I'll leave my stuff there.

The wild card, once again, is GL stock images.   I thought the new ownership might take it somewhere, and I got a couple of sales after the transition, but it went cold.  Unsure about this one.

Bottom line, I'm dropping SS and DT on New Year's Day.
