General Stock Discussion / Re: Shutterstock sales are bad.
« on: February 16, 2017, 07:21 »
I was selling some photos in January when I started, now I earn around 100% less in February. Almost no downloads and only the new pics get sold...
I quit uploading new pics, there is no point to continue.

General Photography Discussion / Quality of images from T3 to T4i
« on: February 10, 2017, 16:38 »
I saw today my friends pictures with T4i look a lot better than mine which si with T3(both with the stock lenses). And we were on the same location together.
Is there significant jump in picture quality with T4i? Or probably I didnt do the pictures right.

By the way do you need to edit a lot your videos before you upload or you can upload straight away? At least for photos it takes me a lot of time to edit.

4
If after 39 000 images he cannot afford 4k camera there is something wrong with his videos, probably people dont need so much snow storms :)

5
Yes I know and its kind of academic but when you look at the table of the 1.6 million registered contributors only 165,000 have more than 0 images which makes me wonder about the overall accuracy.  The South American, African, Indian contributors are way down...is there something about Thailand I'm missing? Is the population of Andora (79,000) totally comprised of photographers? ...14th in the table They took a relatively small small sample I suspect some kind of bias has crept into it.

I was in Thailand before 3 years, I am sure there arent enough people who can buy nice camera and take good photos. I dont know why they are listed as one of the bigger contributor countries.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Resolution, to begin with
« on: February 04, 2017, 12:31 »
4k will be the standard for long time I think, I dont think in the next 5 years people will want to buy 6k or 8k videos. Just look now, they are still buying HD mostly. Also 4k is already so good quality, its almost unreasonable to buy 8k videos, unless if they put it in really big screen outside like in the asian cities.

Appalling?? It's only 2.5% no worse than banks or anyother financial outfit.

They have to make some money in order to offer a great service like that

yes, indeed, appalling -- in most of Europe, you get REAL forex rates for your foreign currency payments (Den Danske Bank, Creditanstalt Austria, Svenska Handelsbanken, Deutsche Postbank, Credit Agricole -- just to name a few). The typically anglo-saxon approach of greed and of ripping off the little guy makes Paypal seem "like other banks" in some places (UK, U. S. where no one has even heard about foreign currencies existing, pun intended)...

And what's that "great service" Paypal are providing, again?

In this time and age of Bitcoin, Litecoin, other Crypto currencies offering INSTANTENOUS and next-to-no-cost payments wordwide, who really needs Western Union, Paypal, or even the -- in fact -- slightly better Payoneer services?

It is easy to convert Paypal dollar (or any other) balances to bitcoins and on to a local currency using the right Bitcoin Exchange in your local country (local currency, bank account). You may even sell bitcoins over-the-counter and without needing wallet software when using localbitcoins.com in face-to-face transactions available in most cities that have Starbucks or Burger King. All of these options will save you all those -- truly -- annoying fees. (Feel free to PM me if you need URLs for a local exchange in certain countries, too wide a subject to include it here.)

Better still would be some stock agency actually offering Bitcoin payments in the first places. Curious to see when that will finally happen.

Bitcoin, Be Your Own Bank -- in case you guys still haven't heard about it...!

Bitcoin price can be up and down, even for one day something like 100$ per bitcoin, I dont know if its positive or negative, but sometimes I receive money and I want to withdraw them instantly but its already less since the rate of btc has gone down :D. It's probably good for investors who want to wait and see and sell their btc when its up.

The end of microstock probably?

Do you think its better if you have less keywords then? For example 10, less to worry about, most relevant keywords only. The order wont matter a lot.

10
What is the reason, you need to add more keywords?

Do you think she has company or she is registered as hobby job or something like this which is possible in my country.

12
I think her videos costa lot to produce, probably she spends 50% of the money on producment but its still good, considering the job is fun, its not like to work in office.

Do you have idea if nature and travel videos sell good? I'm able to visit a lot of unique places in the tropics.

13
Where do you see how much he has sold ?

the lesson everything learnt micro stock u can upload everything and earn...don-t be too picky...i upload everything even those file that are made for garbage of my mac...and u know i see sign of increasing download day after day....i never considered video but i-m beginning too. i have many drone footage to upload....i never considered those sellable but i-m too picky and hard with my work, considered the kind of footage sold in pond 5

Will some cheap camera for 1000$ be good for microstock videos, I am not willing to invest 6000$ into the better models?

anything will be good. i don't think right now anybody in micro sock agency cares about quality.
1000 you can buy a used gh4. adapt or buy some lens is cheap. save for a video tripod and monopod...go out of home and shoot everything, from dog pet cat to car...in one day you can do if you live in big city 10000 clip of 10 second and if correct earn money...think also everybody will do this so we reach 1 billion video in less than 5 months.

I live in city of 40 000 but I travel to Jakarta regulary, there is a lot of material there, floodings, traffic, street food sellers, misery, skyscrapers, whatever you want, its there.

I got the following refusal, what is the intellectual property in this case? The marker? I see a lot of people with markers in their pictures.

How about the post processing, any advice?

Poor Post-Processing -- Image has quality issues from post production techniques such as cloning or isolation.
Intellectual Property -- Image potentially infringes on another party€™s intellectual property rights (e.g., someone else€™s artwork is visible in the image or an object's design is protected by copyright).

I get internel error when I try to calculate withdrawal now, but I am almost sure that I withdraw usd and I dont get charged with currency convertion.

It's hidden as a really bad exchange rate, which translates into a 2.5% fee. The average exchange rate today should be around 1.83 levs per dollar.

But I withdraw 600$ usd and I pay the withdrawal fee which smth like 2.5 usd, and I get 600$ usd in my bank account/ debit card.

EDIT: Just withdrew 530 usd and I will update you when I receive it, but I make withdrawals monthly and I always receive my money in usd, always exactly the same ammount I withdraw.

I can confirm withdrawing 530 usd and receiving 530 usd in my debit card. So no money lost, no conversion.  Only the 2.5 usd fee is what I pay.
I dont know if its politics of paypal in my country.

123RF / Re: Review time at 123
« on: January 29, 2017, 12:28 »
I got 190 accepted from 202 submitted, in other websites the acceptance rate is lower, in adobe only 90 accepted for example. As for the review time, I wrote to live chat after they didnt do it for 5 days and they did it in the next hours.

The artist owns the Copyright to the art (in the USA at least). You need a release from the person who put the art on to the hand.
Would that be the case even if a traditional, historic design had been copied, as is common. I suppose you'd need to somehow establish proof of that. I have seen books of mendhi designs with notes about their historical provenance. The artist would have no claim to copyright.
Not saying that applies in the OP's case, of course.

I think they are asking for releases for everything, my wife paid for this, anyway its only one photo. But lets say, everything which a model wears is also art, produced by someone, the clothes on your back, you need releases for the dresses, rings, jewelry and etc. There is always possibility that people in agencies will find something more requiring releases :)

I have release for the model, it is body and face shot, I just put this picture to illustrate what she has on the hand.

Intellectual Property -- Image potentially infringes on another party€™s intellectual property rights (e.g., someone else€™s artwork is visible in the image or an object's design is protected by copyright).

My image of model was refused for this reason. What release do I need to ask the author of this art to sign exactly? It is something like this on her hand but with face view, not from close up.
