I would recommend not to upload anything..

Probably a good idea.

New Sites - General / Re: VectorStock launch new website

In my experience, they are very open to requests for price increases. With that said, they are a little too eager to price vectors at the $1 level.

I would recommend only uploading your lowest quality, least detailed files to the site.

Someone is  good at hacking to get credit card info.

Unfortunately for us, it's easy-peasy lemon-squeezy to steal credit card info.

General Stock Discussion / Re: New Microstock Keyword Tool

Nice keywording tool. Thanks for sharing! (and thanks for adding in a vector filter).

Was it easy to get an API key from ShutterStock? (I'm assuming you're not scraping the site)

I'm going to start requesting some price changes or delete stuff if they won't update to match the description of the tiers.

Yeah, I'm about to do the same.

To put it crassly, shank is an iStock cheerleader hoping that his brown-nosing will eventually lead to a position as a moderator and/or inspector :)

As Helix mentioned, this type of legal wording is almost ubiquitous for sites that host content (Facebook, Dropbox, etc). This is not an attempt to "own" people's work, but rather a necessary legal protection against frivolous lawsuits dealing with user's uploads.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Dreamstime, is flagging images!!
« on: June 21, 2011, 12:07 »
I got the same flag about "chocolate bar," and probably from the same guy. He just doesn't understand how the system works. At all. But that's okay, because I don't think admins even pay attention to the flags anymore.

General Stock Discussion / What is going on here?
« on: June 20, 2011, 14:30 »
We just found hundreds of our images on Photaki.com being distributed by the contributor "IngramPublishing". They are the highest ranked contrib on that site, even above Yuri. All the images have big color shifts from the originals. Seems to be www.ingrampublishing.com, so I assume that our images got there via one of the poorly documented partner programs on another site. There is no copyright information attributed to us on either Photaki or Ingram. Should we be worried about these sites? Does anyone have experience with these sites?

Perhaps there is a significant translation problem here. Seems impossible to have a conversation with each other.

No, because I need to retain my anonymity. My portfolio has nothing to do with the issue you have brought up in this post, but your portfolio absolutely does. It should be quite obvious why I requested to see your other images. Your anger over this is understandable, but you can't possibly expect us to side with you based on incomplete information provided from only one side of the altercation.

A few Google searches have revealed that you created several blogs, one named "SHUTTERSTOCK IS BAD". A quote from one of your all-caps posts:

"IF SOMETHING HAPPEN TO ME OR MY BLOG, THAT IS SHUTTERSTOCK, BECAUSE THEY WANT TO DESTROY ME IN ANY WAY, THIS IS THE TRUTH"

The irrationality of statements like this really damage your side of the argument. I will, of course, not post links to this because of your wish to remain hidden.

Well then my conclusion is that you have something to hide.

Can we get links to your potfolio on other microstock sites? Your other images might provide a helpful context to this discussion. Thanks.

This letter is painful to read.

A good clean-up will only benefit us in the long run.

I mostly agree with this. Painful in the short term, but beneficial in the long term.

You can apply for a key now. They will ask you numerous questions about the scope of your project, including a request for several paragraphs worth of details. They also claim to not allow the API key to be used on a public application/project that also displays information about other stock sites. It's strictly regulated, but there's no reason you shouldn't try.

I believe the subscription plan is for an Adobe product installed on your own computer. Normally your Adobe applications "call home" all the time to make sure the serial number is valid and unique, and this system would simply keep your serial number valid until you stopped paying the monthly charge, at which point the application(s) would stop working.

18
Purchasing a subscription could potentially let you do a tax write-off as an operating expense rather than a capital expense (in the US).

19
Good idea... would be rather humorous if they went through all the effort of hiding themselves to then just accidentally let their identity slip :)

20
They may not know anything about stock images, but based on the forum name "BlackhatWorld" (which references a particular type of hacker, usually well versed in illegal activities), I would assume they understand how to do something as simple as masking their true IP address via a proxy. Anyway, each computer does not have it's own permanent, unique IP address. To put it simply - the IP refers to a specific connection, which usually remains the same for a location, but is independent from the identification of a specific computer. Most people have their computer on the same connection all the time, hence the reason it can sometimes be traced back to them.  On top of that, they could be posting on the forum from a public wifi. Also, their IP address, even if static, is also probably not the same that their website uses. Furthermore, the only way an agency could get the IP address is by requesting a subpoena for the server of the forum and hope that some sort of log has been kept, and good luck with that.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not saying they should be stealing our images. But tracking them is not as simple as it sounds.

Sounds like Shank :)

I hope you have considered the long term effects that the PP will have on your IS sales. If you don't care, then cheers to you on your recent short-term income boost.

Someone with a ShutterStock account, please post this information:

On CanadaFirst's LinkedIn profile, they list themselves as "Semi professional disinformation consultant", aka a liar. The avatar on his profile is actually also one of the alleged stolen images. Lists himself as owner of stockphoto4free.com.

http://www.linkedin.com/pub/canada-first/23/710/732

Google cache of page in case he deletes information:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:Kf7kDjYZBUkJ:ca.linkedin.com/pub/canada-first/23/710/732+stockphoto4free.com+linkedin&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&source=www.google.com

I'm getting a little tired of this person, and they aren't very good at spreading disinformation.

The only way to effectively reach all of the vector exclusives is to go through and privately site mail all of them about it. Daunting task, but i'm sure it would help considerably.

Yeah, Veer is great. It's my favorite of the stock sites, both as a contributor and as a buyer.
