Donated, good luck to you!

anyone else having issues uploading to either Shutter or bigstock  ???
Had issues uploading to Shutterstock yesterday using Firefox. Worked well with Safari.

I've sent a request to DP to enlighten me about this issue as well. No matter if we agreed to the price system of DP, if this accounting reveals to be true it's an unfair and unethically Deal (You can call me naive, I dont'care). I'm definetely not interested to sell my work with a share of around 1 % or even below.

I've cancelled exclusivity this year and the latest development of IS makes is easy to say: no regrets and no trust in the management of the company

Only Bruce knows.

That sounds awful.

Really? Wasn't meant to do so.  :P

I don't know. Haven't heard of any plans in this direction yet. Only Bruce knows.

Thank you bhr :)
What gets accepted is a question most of us are figuring out at the moment. There are a lot of rejections - on some themes more than on others. I made recently a little serie for Stocksy that I considered "highly artistic" (LOL). All got rejected for beeing "too staged". That's life. They are looking for natural images, whatever that means. Real people doing real things (in terms of people shots). No "toothy smiles" towards the camera of people that look like being dressed in a costume ...

shudderstok: you are true in saying GI and IS are not the nicest agencies to submit to in terms of warm fuzzy feelings.

I'm not talking about warm fuzzy feelings, I'm talking about respect and professionalism. Solving IT problems immediately. That is professionalism in my opinion.

@ shudderstok, well why not share your profile. Posting here wild theories anonymous might be a secrecy thing some might have concerns with ;)
I don't know why you're riding this "portfolio of competitors" thing . I've sent them my personal business portfolio. If you're interested: www.ina-peters.de
You will be sure able to post a small collection of pictures you want to apply with somewhere in the web if you don't have a business website. There are services around ... but wait, you made clear that you don't want to apply.
To answer your question, nothing from me is "official", I'm just a contributor. I will surely not post here internal information about clients, sorry.
My guess on why they maybe did not answer all applications timely is that it's still a very small team and when Stocksy got public the interest was overwhelming ... just my 2 cents.
You asked about this other agencies that are requesting portfolio links? Well, imagesource, Getty, stockfood for example - just to name some of them.
Just to give you an impression about earnings: In July I made half of what I made on IS (after the respectful royalty cut for Indies) on Stocksy (Stocksy ca 250 files, IS ca 2500). Good development IMHO for a young agency.

LOL. @ shudderstok, talking about arrogance: I was somehow tired of the way being treated as a contributor from Getty/IS. And I don't feel "harvested" at all. I would most likely be still a happy IS exclusive if the company was still respectful with their people (and all the existing problems with the site would be resolved in a timly manner). The "cliques" arguement is in my opinion very applicable to IS/Getty today. There are more than enough "all are equal - but some are more" decisions being made by IS/Getty management. I have no idea what you're talking about with this referral to existing stock sites for a Stocksy application. You were being asked to provide a link to your work (as most of us have someting like this today) and this is totally professional. All other agencies I apllied to are doing this, too - also macro agencies.
@ rene you asked a valid question and I guess a lot of people are also interested in the financial aspect of Stocksy. As there is so much negativity around here I was also hesitating to post something. (Sometimes I can't get rid of the impression that at least two members are being paid for making opinions around here).
The development at Stocksy is quite promising. Continuing growth and some big clients on board :) If you want more information, please send me a mail.

IS has a new chief now as it seems: http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/getty-images-names-ellen-desmarais-general-manager-of-istockphoto-215622531.html
The latest changements seems to be her merit. Sad that these things does't get announced somewhere on IS - but not surprising anyway ...
Sad also that there are desperate moves being made by the management like the hiring of the BCC, new management instead of simply listening to contributors and making business with heart, mind and ethics instead of blind actionism.

Stocksy / Re: Stocksy in action...
« on: May 27, 2013, 07:39 »
Maybe I'm one of the "happy clappy ones", but I love Stocksys Design and approach. The sense of "unity" is something that's gone for too long at IS. And this has got power IMO which was never valued at IS lately. For all those criticicing everything about the new site right now, please remind theyre online since just 2 months...
I hope it will succeed - and if it does it may also have hopefully influence on other agencies who have increasingly maximised their own profit on the back of the suppliers - not only in microstock. We as Photographers do not have a Lobby or Unity to protect our work and give us a fairer share - but we should have. Now someone comes along with a good and fair concept like Bruce did, I personally think this deserves at least some respect if you prefer not to belong to the happy clappies... I do not mean to be offending, just my 2 cents :)

Thank you davidgoh - I'm one of the lucky photographers on Stocksy and I'm totally in love with the site as well. So many great talents with stunning work. It's sometimes depressing ... ;)

+ many of us went exclusive some years ago (me:2006) when there was believe in the company IS and we were treated rather fair.
Now that so many things went wrong it has certainly felt for some time now like an abusive relationship with golden handcuffs. The decision to go independent is inevitable - i think for all.
It was a good ride for some years, also in terms of money.

If google bought an agency could it just set it own price and use all photos? Pay out one royalty and "own" heaps of images? If it did would it be better to use exclusive images other agencies don't have. Google could kill the market quicker than all the agency managers combined. No that won't happen, they have not bought an agency!?? The big thing is we should be able to opt out but it may be a one off sale of images looks good to IS and buying an agency (or all its images) may look good to google. Even though they do not own the images the way it is going they treat it as such. Not many in IS forums speaking loudly any more. Guess getting rid of Sean worked. We have to trust agencies but that trust is often misplaced. Stolen images, refunds, selling at a price with conditions we never agreed to. What next?

Good luck Sean you deserve better and I do hope you images are not buried when uploaded to other agencies. It will I am sure be for the best for you but it is harsh at the moment.
Maybe it worked shutting them up, but we dont know how many will pack up and leave. Only when we know that number, we know if sacking Sean really worked.

Speaking for me - I've handed in my crown on Monday. Booting Sean was one of the reasons I've given them for this action (besides plenty of others). I know at least two other Diamdond contibutors that have done the same this week. There may be more ... I wished more people would have spoken up loudly when it was time to do so but seeing what happened to Sean you can't blame them. Some folks are still happy with their revenue and I guess they have somehow given up with the "unpleasant" issues that they cannot change.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: D-Day (Deactivation Day) on Istock - Feb 2
« on: February 01, 2013, 13:51 »
...I would like to suggest that we remain banded together, on high alert, ready to move, and visible as a concerned group to the outside world.  But, that we acknowledge their initial response with a stated postponement of D-Day for 2 weeks pending more information. If we have no satisfying details regarding a revised agreement with Getty as well as their policy on such deals in the future, then we move to deactivate.

I disagree.

They aren't negotiating with us - they might be listening, but I tink the policies about future deals could be there now - they've had a couple of weeks to come up with that if they were so inclined. The Google deal might need more time to refine, but in the meantime, they're not putting anything on the table at all regarding their future actions. They couldn't even throw us a bone with a list of the images included or the planned final total.

Postponing D-Day just means we're going to hear the same platitudes a couple of weeks from now, IMO.

That's true, unfortunately. Why did they not at least give us the lightboxes with the affected files? The takedown of kga's google search site went pretty quick compared to all other actions we are waiting for.

...Bonobo posted a snarky comment...

While I appreciate the play on words, I think you are giving Bonobos a bad name. They are a gentle, peaceful genus, known for f$cking around solving their problems via sexual activity. I'm not sure the same applies to our hairy friend, nor am I sure I want to know  ;D

I stand corrected, I thought they were unpleasant and aggressive little primates, renowned for almost continual self abuse, as for our bullying friend, I really have no idea  :)

The aggressive ones are chimpanzees - at least they are capable of very complex intrigues and even murder. Very similar to humans. Bonobos are the only species that managed "make love not war". ;-)

Lets pick GL and run with it, they will add video if the demand and collection is there!

I like the GL interface and their options for sellers seem to be very nice. Opened account.

On the Istock forums they have removed all posts with Sean's Greasmonkey script.
I'm surprised they left it there so long

:D The script seems to work well!

I am seriously considering pulling out all my images  >:(   I know I am a small fish but this is driving me nuts

Me too. I'm hoping for a miracle in the next days but I'm preparing to leave. If I do this final decision I won't let my files end up on TS with the same option to be given away for free.

Very interesting looking at the Officers and Staff of PACA. Getty are not just members. Vice President and the Education & Communications Officer are both from Getty

Thanks for that laugh! :-)
