StockXpert.com / Re: Here we go again
« on: April 12, 2011, 21:07 »
LOL I didn't even bother requesting a payout this time around. I guess they have an obligation to keep putting the site back up as long as our images are available on thinkstock though it might be easier for them just to delete all those files....

March 2011 was my best month in four years in microstock, hasn't been an easy ride but it's been fun :)

Shutterstock 48%
Dreamstime 6%
iStock 11%
Fotolia 22%
123 RF 8%
Stock Expert 3%
Veer   0%
BigStock 1%

Second best month of the year, SS and FT going most strongly.

hmmm sounds like a great place to start some conspiracy rumor, Shutterstock buys iStock next month!

DepositPhotos / giving DP a go....
« on: June 29, 2010, 08:59 »
I said I wouldn't do it after Albumo but here I go again. I had 4 shots on there for a few months and got one sale so I decided to put my culled version of the port there and see how it goes. One of the things that helped me decide was seeing some of the major players on there already which suggest they've done some research and feel positive about DP's chances. Now I got 1730 images there and will see how it goes or it will be a waste of time like Albumo, Lucky Oliver and Veer....

nothing drastic for me either....

123RF / Re: Sales at 123RF. Are they worth joining?
« on: June 29, 2010, 00:53 »
For me SS is number one as for most other people and IS, FT and 123RF are all pretty much equal second. DT is third, StockXpert fourth (via thinkstock royalties now) and BS fourth.

I still get my 100-150 downloads there every month. Was trying to see if I could log in via my StockXpert login but couldn't get it to work, so dunno..

11
For me it was the best month of the year, so not too bad...

same here, must be a glitch

Okies sorry, 4 years, 5D was announced in August 05 and went on sale later that year. I'm about to get the 5D M2 for myself this Xmas, mainly so I can use full frame with my 17-40mm L lens and for overall better quality. I used to have the 30D and my mum has the 20D. The difference going to 40D was quite substantial in terms of handling noise at higher ISO, larger LCD and sensor cleaning. A four year old camera, even with a full frame, in my books just doesn't stack up... I would never go back to sensor cleaning with my swab's, god that sucked....

14
If you are looking in the 1k price range I would go for 40D, less noise and much better and cheaper choice then 50D. If you are willing to spend bit more go for the 7D which has some great specs on it. Otherwise bite the bullet and get the 5D Mark2. I wouldn't bother personally with the 5D Mark1, we are talking over six year old technology here and in the world of computers (essentially this is a computer) that's a very long time....

So far I'm seeing a increase in revenue from SV but this is only the first month so dunno if this will continue...

General - Top Sites / Re: BIG 4+2
« on: September 26, 2009, 07:25 »
I would say this varies from person to person on how much effort an individual spent or is how popular their work is on a given site, for me personally and based on two year revenue spread I get:

Shutterstock 50%
iStock 16%
Dreamstime 11%
Fotolia 8%
123 RF 7%
Stock Expert 7%
Veer 1%
BigStock 1%

So still more or less qualifying to be called a Big 6 for the top earners...

17
I think this can only be good news that will hopefully see BS lift out of the doldrums and start earning some real money!

It seems that Shutter Stock hasn't been reporting for me for past few days, is this a global issue with Lookstat or just on my account ?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Lifetime Microstock Goals
« on: March 29, 2009, 16:58 »
What are your lifetime microstockgoals.  The milestone that when you reach it, you will be happy just keeping things at that level.

For me, I think if, and when .... no no... WHEN i reach the following milestones i would like to take more travel photography and not worry as much about making 'saleable' images, and perhaps spend more time doing pottery :)

10,000 images online
$10,000 / month
$100/day avg on shutterstock

Once all of those are met (or more importantly the first two) I will be a happy camper.

I'd say my lifetime goals are about the same as yours, though instead of pottery I'd like to spend more time cycling and mountain biking across Asia and Canada :)

21
mmmm sad to see my goals from 08 were sabotaged by trips to Mongolia, China and Canada, one girlfriend, one ex wife and one soul mate. About six months in total of no shooting or submitting to microstock so no big surprise goals weren't reached.

Goals for 08 were:

1 - Shot better and more commercially viable images
2 - Reach 1k per month income
3 - Build folio of images up to 3000

Now for 09

1 - Shot better and more commercially viable images
2 - Reach 2k per month income
3 - Build a folio of 4000 images on shutter stock and put across on most other sites
4 - Reach Silver on Fotolia and iStock
5 - Spend less time arguing with the ex

oh and I'd also like to have a pink fluffy puddle  :)

Heya Rahul :) nice maintenance release with this and past year on that stats. If I can also make another suggestion it's to add an option to either sort images in the Earnings section be either revenue or downloads, hope FT isn't too far away either, loving your site/product :)

23
Same here, had a rush of them in the past few days, strange hey

24
You got to love missed sarcasm :)

25
Great work, thank you for doing all that work, it is very interesting to see all those stats and I'm sure many people will find it quite useful, keep up the great work Leaf!
