General Stock Discussion / Catooh.... Anyone Use Them?
« on: January 16, 2020, 13:30 »
Hi Guys!  8)

I have been working with Catooh for several years, but now they are going to become Producer Planet.

(Why these stock agencies think changing their name is a good idea is beyond me, as anytime they change names, they typically lose customers and then go out of business.  Anyone remember 3D Studio and how they changed names and what a disaster that was?? That's a perfect example.)

Anyway it looks like Producer Planet will no longer offer stock images... so how do I get paid?

Does anyone have any contact info for Catooh?

I need to get a hold of someone over there so I can get paid for the images I sold on their website.

Thanks,

General Stock Discussion / Fotolia Closing
« on: November 06, 2018, 15:48 »
Hi All,

It's been a while since I last posted on here but I have a question.  I had a Fotolia contributor's account and received sales there... but now that Fotolia is closed how am I going to get paid?  I never received any notification until November 5 that Fotolia was closing.  I was aware that Adobe had acquired them but never received any info beyond that so never did anything about my sales or my account for that matter.

So what do I do?  I reached out to support... are they migrating all contributors over to Adobe Stock or just a select few contributors?

This is also another reason why all stock agencies should pay their contributors immediately or at least the following month...

When they have a payout system other than immediate... you the contributor are left holding the bag when they go out of business without telling you anything.  >:(

That sucks big time if they are out of business as I sold quite a few images over there, so they owe me payment.

I wish these stock photo sites would behave more professionally and notify their contributors before skipping out on everyone.  >:(

Hey All  8)

I am a photog based in the USA... and I got a question.  Some of the agencies don't report your stock earnings to the IRS... so do I need report these earnings to my accountant?  :o

StockPhotoMedia.com / Re: Stockphoto Media Closed?
« on: December 20, 2014, 09:53 »
Hey all  :D

Stockphotomedia may not be closed after all.  I went over to their sister site.... fotomedia.se... and logged in.  The English version of the website which is stockphotomedia.com (when you click on the british flag on the fotomedia.se site it will take you to the English site) is down... but the Swedish version is up and running.

Anyway I emailed them about the problem and asked them if they were still in business.  I also requested a payout as I had about a 20 Euro balance.  As long as I get my money, I'll be happy. My fingers are crossed.  ;D

New Sites - General / 3D Studio -- No longer selling Photos?
« on: December 15, 2014, 18:10 »
Hi All,

I visited 3D studio tonight and it looks like they are no longer selling photos.  The whole site looks completely different.

It would have been nice if they had told their contributors of the upcoming changes.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Need Help With Bulk Renaming Files
« on: November 18, 2014, 18:47 »
Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your help!

I did some more research this evening and actually found a program that does exactly what I want and it doesn't process the files out of sequence either... such as...  photo (1), photo (10), photo (11), photo (12)... photo (2), photo (20), photo (21), photo (22).

This program processes them in numerical sequence... which is they way they should be, IMHO.

Anyway the program I use is called Advanced Renamer.

http://www.advancedrenamer.com/

It processed the files in numeral order Photo (1),  Photo (2),  Photo (3),  Photo (4),  Photo (5),  Photo (6),  Photo (7),  Photo (8),  Photo (9),  Photo (10) and spit them out as 0001, 0002, 0003... etc, etc... exactly the way I wanted!  :D

BTW... I had to try several bulk renaming programs to find one that processed them sequentially... the others wanted to process them in that rather asinine number order thing.

Newbie Discussion / Need Help With Bulk Renaming Files
« on: November 18, 2014, 07:52 »
Hi All,  :D

Is there a good file renaming program out there that is free and easy to use?

I am just wondering because here is a problem I am encountering:

I can rename files with Windows but it names everything as photo (1), photo (2), photo (3) etc...

However.. when I want to rename these files... I tried using a program called "Bulk Rename Utility" and it sorts the files as photo (1), photo (10), photo (11), photo (2) photo (20) photo (21)... which throws everything out of order. I want the photos to be in numerical sequence as these are time lapse images.

Can anyone help?

I would really appreciate any advice you have.

Thanks,

New Sites - General / Image Gate Site Down or Out of Business?
« on: August 07, 2014, 08:31 »
Hi All  :)

I tried to connect to Image Gate by FTP today but I got an authentication error and when I updated the security key, I still couldn't connect.  It appears that their site is down too.  I have contacted the owner several times this year to transfer files from the FTP server into my account, but he wouldn't respond back (as he usually does).  :o

I am thinking this is another stock site that has bit the dust.  Has anyone else had any success in contacting the owner/manager of the site recently?

Newbie Discussion / Question About Photo Usage
« on: May 27, 2014, 09:13 »
Hi All  :D

I have a question about Photo usage.  I came across a website that is using one my photos but it's attributing it to another photographer and not to me. :o

How do I rectify the situation so that it shows me as the photographer?  Should I contact the website or should I have the stock agency that sold the photograph contact the website?

Pond5 / Uh Oh! Pond Is At It Again... :-(
« on: January 09, 2014, 09:08 »
Hi Everyone,

I posted about this same topic here in the forum on July 15th... and it appears that Pond is at it again.   :(

http://www.microstockgroup.com/pond5/photos-returned-for-camera-information-what-the-f/

Today all my photos got returned because the reviewer thinks the camera information needs to be completed.

As I said in my earlier post of July 15th...

"A photo buyer is going to be buying a photo based on its subject matter... NOT on whether it was shot with such and such a camera or edited with a certain photo editing program."

Anyway I am writing back to them AGAIN  >:( ... telling them that I don't provide this information due to propietary purposes.

Panthermedia.net / Re: Panther Please Help!
« on: October 01, 2013, 08:33 »
I deleted the rejected files because when the contributor portal page loads... it always shows everything -- rejected and accepted... and it looks rather cluttered and messy.

IMHO...Panther needs to re-design their contributor portal so that rejected files are on a separate tab.... or they should do what Fotolia does... once they are rejected... they are automatically deleted.

Hi

I emailed them.  Sometimes they take a long, long time to respond so I am hoping that I might be able to get a faster response through here.

Panthermedia.net / Panther Please Help!
« on: October 01, 2013, 08:00 »
Hi Guys,

I've always had trouble with Panther's contributor portal -- whether I am using Firefox 24 or Internet Explorer 10.  I don't know if there is a lot of scripts on that page or what,  but sometimes it's hard to select certain images to edit them, etc.  :o

Anyway... here's the problem.  Today... I attempted to delete some rejected images.  I thought I had just selected the 3 rejected images that were in my account. Those were the only images that were showing when I clicked the delete button anyway.

Well when I deleted them, I found that I had also deleted some of my accepted images too.  :-[
I don't know how this happened.... but it did.

Anyway... is there some way to get these accepted files back?

Hi PZF,

I had the same problem today at 10 am New York Time when I tried to FileZilla-ing some .jpgs to them.  I got connected to their server but their server failed to reply with any protocol parameters. I retried later and was able to successfully get my files FTPed.

Give them a try again... perhaps their server is not so busy now... or it's now more awake after having its morning cup of coffee.  ;)  ;D

Pond5 / Re: Photos Returned For Camera Information, why?

No need... problem has been resolved.

However camera/software used shouldn't be a requirement.

Pond5 / Re: Photos Returned For Camera Information, why?
« on: July 16, 2013, 11:45 »
I never knew EXIF information to contain a serial number.  I certainly have never seen it.

The way I see it, when the buyer downloads the photo the EXIF and IPTC information is going to be included in the image anyway, unless this information was somehow removed during the editing process.

All Pond is doing is including this information in their database, which is not overwriting any information contained within the image file itself.  And in my opinion this info is not necessary.

Anyway I did get a reply from Pond... they said they actually have buyers ask about this info.  However, I am thinking buyers are not so much interested in this info -- as it's other photographers who want to know this information.

Pond5 / Photos Returned For Camera Information, why?
« on: July 15, 2013, 08:51 »
Hi Everyone,

In the past few months, the reviews over at Pond have gotten a little crazy.  :o

Today all my photos were returned to me because I didn't supply camera and software information to my photographs.

I was told that buyers need this information.... and yet I have NEVER supplied it to Pond so why are they making such a big deal about it now?

A photo buyer is going to be buying a photo based on its subject matter... NOT on whether it was shot with such and such a camera or edited with a certain photo editing program.  ::)

Grrrrrrrrr!  >:(

Anyway, I am writing them back saying that I don't provide this information due to proprietary purposes.

Hi Everyone,

It seems to be much faster for me now than it was earlier this morning -- which was 5 am - 7:30 am New York City time.

Maybe their servers were especially busy at those times.. or they were doing some sort of maintenance or something.

I have noticed in the past few weeks though that the CS website can be really slow at times.

Hi All,

Has anyone noticed Canstock's website being really, really, really slow?   :o

The main page (canstockphoto.com) loads fast, but when I want to view my portfolio or look at my unfinished files, it takes like forever (like several minutes) to load those particular pages.

Is anyone else experiencing this?  ???

Newbie Discussion / Question About Sales On Microstock Sites
« on: April 24, 2013, 12:16 »
Hi Guys  ;D

I got into a discussion the other day with a very teeny-tiny little microstock site that I am closing my account with and getting a pay-out from... and the discussion got me to thinking about microstock in general.

So here's the question for you all...

1. What percentage of your sales would you estimate... were probably used by the buyer for print projects -- e.g. brochures, posters, post cards, calendars, book illustrations, magazine illustrations, etc, etc.

And what percentage of your sales would you guess were probably used for web purposes?

I am just wondering because wasn't the whole purpose of microstock really to make photographs more affordable to those buyers out there who wanted to use photos for small projects -- especially projects that involved the web?

Also... even when I have sold a large file... I still get the feeling that the photo is probably being used for a web application somewhere, as there is just not that much stuff that is being printed anymore.

So what do you all think?  Has any microstock site done a survey to find out how the photos being sold are actually being used?
