Thanks for the comments. I have decided to go for the intuos 4. I know I will keep wondering if I get a 3 :)
As for the last question, I have read many people are happy with the medium size with most screen setups, but I guess it depends on what your main use will be. I just need it for photo manipulation but if you are doing illustrations I guess the bigger size would be better. Maybe someone better qualified may make a comment.
Thanks everyone.

Computer Hardware / which wacom intuos to buy, 3 or 4
« on: September 02, 2009, 08:18 »
I am going to buy a wacom intuos tablet to make life easier when using the pen tool etc. From what I have read, the intuos 4 is much better than the old intuos 3, however, the 3 is now half the price of the 4 in the used market. For those of you that have used both, do you think I would regret not spending the extra on a 4. I havn't used a pen before, so it will all be new to me, and I will pay extra for a 4 if I thought I would regret not getting one later.
Here in England, a medium intuos 4 is about 300, and the average used price for a 3 is about 150.
many thanks.

Adobe Stock / Re: Myfotolia.com ~ Is Anyone Using This????
« on: June 25, 2009, 06:17 »
I think images are added by editing in the order gallery tab, but there seems to be a problem trying to make any changes or editing in that tab. I've tried with firefox and IE, and they are both coming up with errors.
It looks like a site problem rather than anything I am doing at my end, so might have to leave things till I have more time to play with it.

Like Whitechild, I can't work out how to add images into a new gallery.
Can anyone help?

I think you will find it dry on the deck of that size vessel, although you may find it wet from rain at that time of year.
You will probably find you are taken ashore in the ships small tender, and that can get wet if the water is a bit rough, so make sure you have some protection for the camera. A ziplock type plastic bag will do.
Hope you have fun, and get plenty of nice pics :)

ok, thanks for the info. I am getting failures on web uploads as well, so its not just ftp.
I will leave it for a bit and see if things get sorted out.

Bigstock.com / problem uploading at bigstockphoto
« on: May 12, 2009, 05:49 »
I have been having problems trying to upload via ftp since last evening (UK time).
I tried again this morning with the same result. I am also getting failures when trying to upload via the web browser.
The files are starting to upload, and then failing after a short time. Anyone else having problems, or is it my end?
Thanks.
Bob.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Canon 5d mk1 and 5d mk11
« on: March 04, 2009, 07:28 »
Just an update
I bought a used 5d mk1 a couple of days ago.
Compared to the 40d I find the shutter sounds clunkier, and the back screen is smaller with a  poor display.
BUT the results are outstanding :)
I didn't expect to see much difference till I zoomed in to 100%, but even the thumbnails seem sharper and more vibrant.
All in all, I'm very glad I bought it, and of course my 17-40 now works as it was intended.
I'm sure the 5d mk2 would be even better with the improvements in screen etc, but for less than half the price I now have a superb camera.
My only real suprise is how much better than the 40d it seems.
The only decision now is do I sell my 40d
Cheers all
Bob.

I normally have my 40d at 1/3 or 2/3 over, so it seems he may be right

Thank you both for those comments.
I've only used the live view a couple of times on my 40d, and wouldn't miss that feature, and I've had to clean the 40d sensor with a wet swab despite the auto cleaner, so that isn't major factor for me.
I think with the funds I have available, the mk1 is probably the way to go. I'll have to do some hard thinking. I would love the mk2, but  we can't always have what we would really like in the real world :)
I have a 350d as a backup, so if I did get the 5d, I could sell the 40d and probably get a decent amount for that to offset the cost of a 5d while still having a backup camera.
Once again, thanks for your input.

Cameras / Lenses / Canon 5d mk1 and 5d mk11

I currently use a Canon 40d, but have always intended to upgrade to full frame when I can.
In the UK at the moment, a new 5d mk1 is just a little over half the price of a 5d mk11.
Apart from the video and XXL size available with the mk11, have those of you who have upgraded from the mk1 to mk11 found it to be worth the extra (double) price.
If money was no object, this would be not be an issue, but I know the mk1 has been a workhorse for many stock photographers, and it may well be that a new or used mk1 will be fine for stock for a few more years yet.
Cheers.

« on: October 20, 2008, 13:23 »
I'm with the UK site, and sent a site mail asking for the change to the EL price. They changed them all for me and sent me an email informing me it was done in about 8 hours, so I'm very pleased with the quick response.
It's nice to have something nice to say about them ;D
Lets hope I get a few EL's now.

I want to put up the price of EL's on all of my portfolio.
Is it possible to change all of them at once, or will I have to go and edit each photo in turn?
I couldn't see any way to batch change them on the site, but I might have missed something.
Thanks.

Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / Re: Sensor Cleaning
« on: September 26, 2008, 07:08 »
I've had a few dust marks on my 40D that I have put up with for a couple of months, but a couple of days ago I finally cleaned it with a sensor swab and Eclpse. It was the first time I've cleaned a sensor and it took 2 attempts to get it fully clean.
Having now cleaned it successfully, I won't be so concerned about cleaning it again in the future, but hopefully it won't be required very often.
I did try to get rid of the dust with blowers etc, but these spots were firmly stuck, so I decided a wet clean was the only option.

Peter, I'm not saying they are right or wrong about my images. there has been a big change in the last few months for a lot of people who upload to Fotolia. Have you seen any increase in rejections for your uploads, or has there been no change for you
