Alamy.com / Re: Getting Paid
« on: April 06, 2012, 23:37 »
The Alamy payout was $250 and is now $150. Payments occur automatically at the end of the month when your balance is over $150.
These are the terms we agreed to when we signed up, so there's unlikely there's anything you can do.
I don't know what happens if you quit your account: there's a 6 month tie in for your images anyway, so you can't just quit in a moment. (That's in our contract too.)

It's $175.  But whatever.

Anyone have any info on what I could do?
Sorry to sound harsh, but maybe in future read your contracts more carefully before signing?

Um, wow.  Thanks for pointing that out I would have never thought of that.  ???

I did read the contract and I knew what I was signing.  I also thought that I might have more than one sale in the several years I've been signed on with them as I do well enough with my other companies.  Just thought I could see if someone had more information that could help me.

Hi all.  I have had one sale at Alamy and it was a year ago this month.  It was a nice size sale, but my profit was under the $175 payout.  I thought just maybe I could pay a processing fee to finally after a year get a payout.  No luck.  The person / persons I've been e-mailing with have given me brief answers that are basically that I'm out of luck.  I've been told to submit more images so I can make more sales.  Period!  I even checked the contract to see if I terminated my contract with them if I would get a final payout and I couldn't find anything regarding that.

It's so frustrating knowing I have over $100 hat's been sitting out there earning interest for another company which they already made a chunk of change on and I can't touch it!

Anyone have any info on what I could do?

Thanks bunches,
Connie

I just found these two:

Me as the angry librarian.

Pair of gardening tools I bought at the 99 cent store.  They cropped the left of the photo but at least I got line credit!

While doing a photo search I found one of my images at Fotosearch.  http://www.fotosearch.com/sc/CSP094/0947275/  Just wondering who this is and how my image got there and more than anything... do I get paid for this since my name isn't anywhere on the image!!!

Thanks,
Connie

I have quite a few city editorial, and event shots that would make good editorial shots but I need to know who accepts them.

Thanks,

Thanks all.  I would have been real pissed if say the booth had posters for sale with my picture on it.  This is what the microstock image was sold for.  I agreed to the price when I put the image for sale.  Trust me, if I were to find someone using my image in a way not paid for (calendars, cards, etc..) I would aggressively pursue it.

I think you misunderstood my post.  No one stole this picture, it's one I sold on one of the 2 stock sites it's on.  I just "happened" to see it in person.  I'm pretty sure the United States Coast Guard pays for it's images and they would need the large file to print it as big as they did.

Jazzed means "Happy!"

....and what are ya gonna do if you catch this freakin' thief?

Nothing? Hire a lawyer and sue him? Ask him to please stop selling your images? Think he would?
Suppose he askes you for proof you took the photo? suppose he says he took it? Can you prove he did not?
Suppose he claims..."Yeah I remember you!" "You were standing right beside me when I took this picture"

Your only recourse is to take his birthday away from him. Just take it! That'll at least piss him off.

Today I went to my local "Street Fair" where local businesses have booths and also fire dept. etc..

As I'm walking by a booth for the Coast Guard I stop and admire a large photo of Boston harbor on their booth background.  I'm thinking, "wow, that looks JUST like one of my stock photos which I've sold many times, but I don't recall there being certain boats in it".  So I go home and look at my photo... it IS my shot!!!  I went back to the fair but they had already taken the booth apart and were packing to leave.  One of the people took my e-mail and promissed to send photos they took of the booth.  He said they photo has been used in several other media designs.

Last month I'm in Los Angeles magazine and this month with the US Coast Guard... wish I was making REAL money for this!

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Make me want to be exclusive...
« on: May 08, 2008, 13:50 »
Dumb question:

Does "going exclusive" mean "YOU" only sell through a specific site, or does it mean a certain "IMAGE" is only on specific site?  As in, if I am on several sites and wanted to be "exclusive" with IS (my largest selling site) would I have to pull up stakes at every other site or could I just upload specific "exclusive" photos to IS?

Thanks,
Connie

General Stock Discussion / Re: First Enhanced License Sale
« on: May 07, 2008, 12:17 »
IS allows a higher print run than SS.

Here is their wording:

"Reproduction / Print Run Limits
The Standard License Agreement limits the number of times clients may print the Content to 500,000 reproductions. By purchasing this extension, clients can make an unlimited number of reproductions (100 credits). For example, the client may print an unlimited number of posters or make an unlimited number of DVDs containing the Content".

So then Los Angeles Magazine was within thier rights to purchase my image for 25 cents and print it in thier magazine?  It sure was cool to see there!

My shot from iStock that appeared in the back of last months Los Angeles Magazine sold for 25 cents and then I bought 2 of their magazines for over $10 total.  It's relative.  I would rather get $20 for a photo that's going to be on a sold product than 25 cents.

Hmmm,

Los Angeles magazine says that it has a paid subscription base of 180,000.
The TOS for a standard license a SS is no more than 250,000 in a print run.
The thing that bugs me here is that the magazine is on racks all over the place.
Those prints are not accounted for in the 180,000 subs info.

If in reality the magazine does have a print run over 250,000, you should have gotten an extended license payment for that and not $0.20.

See, this is the reason that the RM guys laugh at us.

Does iStock have the same rule for print run as SS because as I stated it was IS that sold to LA Mag.  I would be interested to know if that is the case.

It means probably that someone is printing your photo on thousand of products and making more than 25$. I'm not sure I enjoy that.  Imagine seeing that product with your image and reading how much they are making out of it. It should be alot more than 25$ for a EL I think.

But thats just my opinion...

True, but it's all relative.  I've already agreed to sell the image for 25 cents just by being at Shutterstock.  So a $20 sale is pretty nice.  Yes, it would be great to get a couple hundred for it, but then I wouldn't be selling at Shutterstock, and so far I've had no sales at Alamy.

Thanks,

A friend of my sons sent him a cell phone pic after seeing his photo in Los Angeles Magazine.  We were shocked and then laughed our heads off.  My sons name is Jim, yet the writer named him "Craig".  The one page article is hilarious.

Mag cover: Los Angeles - April 2008

Full page:

My image: "Craig"

Another image of mine was sent to me from iStock.  The gardening trowel in the photo is mine.

BTW, how do you guys find your images posted in German magazines???

I'm confused about keywording on Alamy.  With the 3 different levels of keywords, when people do a search do all those words come into play?  My pics are all active but the only one I could find in a search said "no keywords" at the bottom of the page.

I'm confused!

Ready to upload but I guess they're not ready for me.   :-[

Thank you!!! Thank you!!!  Thank you!!!

I too must have tried a dozen times to get on each time needing to calm myself knowing it just couldn't be gone forever.  This group and you Leaf have been a blessing to me and my beginning with stock.

Happy to see you all again!
