Beware to 123rf sometime they reject dark color images (not dark because lack of lights) such as brown, black etc. They reject my black forest cake because of poor lighting even though if I lift the exposure by small amount will over exposed the white part of the image.

Adobe Stock / Re: 2010 Fotolia Tax coming !!
« on: January 08, 2010, 19:49 »
I'm from treaty country and my W-8 BEN with out ITIN form already approved by fotolia but I still pay 30% tax?

At SS filling W-8 BEN form with out ITIN you can enjoy tax treaty benefits (if you are from treaty contry), but why fotolia can not to do that? why fotolia asking for ITIN to get tax treaty benefits?

I don't know if I am wrong, but what the treaty does is let you not pay taxes again in your country, as you have already paid in the original one - to whom FT gives the tax money.

In my case, a "non-treaty" country, not only I pay 30% to the US government, but also 27.5% (due to my current tax range) to Brazilian government.  So in the end I get half of my already small share.   ::)

I still pay income tax in my country, but it's around 8%.
My concern is why I pay 30% of tax at fotolia?,  meanwhile Shutterstock give me 10% tax with same W-8 BEN form with out ITIN?

everybody need to ask this matter to fotolia.

Ups..I just check My Credit and Yes! they accept W-8 BEN form with out ITIN to get treaty benefits. :)

Beside that if there is earthquake or other disaster in their area, is IS server still life? what happen to exclusive photographer if this happen? are they make backup server in other country?

No Indonesia in your list?, it's country with 17,000 islands.
Let me know if you come to indonesia, you can stay in my house and pay it with model release. I'm looking for caucasian model :)

Thats very tempting but I just don't have time to see everything now, maybe I'll do another just south east asia trip in a year or two if the offer is still open.

Next year? hmm I dont know...bacause I don't have family, I can invite everyone to stay in my house, but next year i'm not sure if I still single :). But I'm ready to guide you if you in my city ....

« on: August 07, 2009, 23:45 »
I only created two folder, one for FTP upload one for uploaded file.
I Use pyrobatchftp at http://www.emtec.com/pyrobatchftp/index.html this FTP program can upload to all agencies when I sleeping.
here is how to use pyrobatchftp: http://stockphoto-shop.blogspot.com/2009/07/uploading-file-to-multiple-agencies.html

Drupal allow you to selling goods base on credit system but you have to add some component, I'v tried in local computer, with small modifiaction you could selling photo base on creadit system with drupal.
Or buy php script like http://www.stockphotoscript.com/ only $25

Make two folder, one for edited photos one folder is for ftp, before save in edited folder it come to ftp folder first, pyrobatchftp program will upload all file in ftp folder automaticly betwen 1am-6am, in the morning everything in ftp folder are uploaded to all agencies and move all image in ftp folder to edited folder. that's it.

Editing categories, keyword, model release etc on agencies sites, I alway open this page to avoid so many tab in my windows, it's like my guidance page, but still can open new tab by right click on that page if I want to.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Istock deleting files without warning
« on: July 31, 2009, 05:06 »
they also closing my account (with 400 photos) without warning, just because external link in description and profile, even it's very easy to fix. Now I'm start from zero again :(

That's a bit harsh!  Though in truth, it does contravene the terms of the contributor agreement as I recall...  what were you linking to?

I linking to my portfolio from other microstock agencies...
In contributor agreement we can linking url but  not mention about competitor link right? better ask before you put link on your portfolio.

General Stock Discussion / new equipment or new location?
« on: July 29, 2009, 01:05 »
New equipment mean: full frame camera with several lens.
New location mean: buy a car instead of full frame camera to bring lighting, equipment, crop camera, model etc to new location .

My question is:
which one is the most effective (sellable) to produce microstock images?

thank's

21
how about this:
For non-exclusive photografer at IS better keep sell to Photos.com/JIU from StockXpert because many non-exclusive photographer have more photos online at stockxpert than IS.
Mine 3000's photos at StockXpert vs 300's at IS, the chance to sell photos is better at StockXpert than IS.

Can some one make polls for this? and send it to StockXpert management.

exclusivity gives istock marketing power. xxx images are exclusive and can only be found here.  only the most successful (ie best) photogs are exclusive.  therefore best images are exclusive and only here so dont go anywhere else

whether copies / ripoffs / image styles istock doesn't like / even better images can be found elsewhere is irrelevant as most people dont look and it is easy to believe (esp if you are not a photographer).

it is much like the mantra that designers dont want images that are all over the web. say it enough and people will believe because they wont to believe it.  The fact that they then search by number of downloads and pick the image with the most downloads because it must be good if that many people have bought it is again irrelevant.

it's all marketing and promotion, you have always got to find a way to make yourself unique and your offerings better than your competition.

Good point, now it's time for photographers doing campaign (blog, forum, etc) to disclaim the mantra.
