It's not only them, other people as well. I guess SS are preparing something in reference with their newest purchase of BS. Time will tell. Regards.

Software - General / Re: capture one pro 5
« on: October 30, 2009, 11:22 »
Just downloaded the trial version. Always wanted to try out Capture One cause many people had only praise for the software. Right now, I'm completely satisfied with DPP but if C1 proves to be better might change my work flow.Hope it's not very difficult to learn. Thanks for posting it.

Photo Critique / Re: isolation?

:o
I can't believe, my key photo was accepted at Dreamstime... they seem to have low isolation requirements....!
 :o

Don't worry. Sometimes things like that happen. Photos we think that would never pass the inspection, don't get rejected and vice versa. Try to improve your technique for your own benefit.

Hello ljupco,

thanks for your quick answer!
I guess you mean putting it in front of a suitable background that is already white?

The chain was actually hard to isolate...

Thanks!
Simone

No, I meant isolating it in camera using lights like described in this tutorial: http://www.zarias.com/?p=71

That's the best way and the easiest at the same time. Here's an image of mine, shot in this way that had only minor tweaks in post production.

Hope this helps :)

The key is looking more or less fine, but the individual chains are not !!! The ultimate PS tool for best extraction is doing it right in the camera. Everything else is time consuming. Lots of designer professionals tend to use the pen tool in combination with other selection tools.

My advice would be to try and isolate it in the camera.

Newbie Discussion / Re: uploading to multiple sites or not?
« on: October 16, 2009, 02:23 »
My personal opinion is if you are really interested in doing this seriously, go ahead and upload to several sites, but if you are doing this as a hobby, save your time by uploading to only one site. You'll have more time for shooting and editing this way.

Have a quick question. Does anyone know what length the videos sold on stock sites should be ? Are there any limits ? Any preferred size or format ? Just got myself a 5D MK II and would like to shoot a video or two but don't know anythinhg about these things. Thanks in advance and regards from Macedonia, Ljupco

General Stock Discussion / Re: MSG shoot in South Africa
« on: March 27, 2009, 15:21 »
Generally, SA sound fine, and I should be in for it even though it requires extra preparations in terms of getting there, safari organization, lens required, etc. but it should be a terrific place for wildlife/landscape shots. Not for model/studio shots though. It would be an awful waste of time in my opinion to do model shoots there, plus I have always considered mass shoots (where several photographers shoot the same model at the same time) kind of kitschy. We can always do that anywhere. We don't have to go to Africa for that.

Just as an idea, we can go ( I in fact I plan to go) to greece around May-June when tourist season is not in full swing. I'm sure you all know, Greece is a magnificent place for landscape photos. I visited some of the islands last year and it was great. This year I plan to visit some different (Mykonos, Zakyntos, Lefkada, etc) and I can assure you that at that time of the year the accommodation prices are really low. i paid 20 euros for two person bedroom at a decent family run hotel. Should anyone consider coming, let me know, I can organize everything, besides the flight tickets, at no charge as I'm going there anyway and would enjoy the company of fellow photographers.

Also should anyone want to visit Macedonia (my home country), i can organize that as well. But that's another topic.

So generally I'm in for SA, but we need to work out the details Leaf. I can also try and take part in organization of the trip if required.

Regards from Macedonia, Ljupco

Thanks for the answer. Haven't got the time to check the boards or read the Newsletter lately. Guess all the agencies carry on with their policy of not listening to the photographers. Such a shame !!!

I have been receiving 0.39 $ for an XS size for a long time when suddenly I sell an extended license and receive only 36 $ instead of the usual 39 (all my Extended license images are set at 100 $) After looking back a couple of pages I noticed that I was actually getting less than I used to since the beginning of March.

And No I'm not talking about subscription sales, they remain at 0.33, I'm referring to XS size and above where my cut used to be 39% and now it seems to have declined to 36 %

Has anything happened that I'm not aware of ? Was there a notification or something ?

Thanks, Ljupco

Lighting / Re: how to get soft lightig like this???
« on: January 16, 2009, 06:11 »
As others have said, lots of lights from various directions are used in making those photos. Pretty time consuming setting up all the lights. Very often, photographing just a regular everyday scene requires more lights and effort than a visually more interesting portrait.

Registered today. Gonna give them a try.  Just having keywords written for free is a reasonable incentive for me.

I've just had a sale but my balance stayed the same. Underneath the image sold, it says "Not downloaded yet. The pending status will be changed if refund is not requested in 3 months"

Are they joking ?

You're absolutely right about giving away old and beaten equipment rather than selling it. I'm doing the same cause I remember how difficult it was for me to obtain it and would like to help out some poor students who are just starting out with photography. Great topic.

Canon / Re: my test: EOS 50D vs EOS 400D
« on: October 08, 2008, 17:41 »

17-40? Well yea it's a good lens. Not stunning results but it's good. Try the 18-55 with IS, you'll be amazed at how sharp this lens can be. Much sharper than 17-40. My whole portfolio's wide angle shots is done with this lens.

I think you need to have your 17-40 sent to Canon for a fix. Either that or you have never shot with that lens.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Billing form ?
« on: September 04, 2008, 18:45 »
I live in Macedonia, and it's not a small amount of money in question. I sold the pic for 260 euros. Anyone know a place where I could download billing  forms specifically suited to photography ?  The ones I found on the net are way too general. Thanks

I want to send them my bank info so that I get the money via wire transfer. It's better than a check in my opinion.
