Newbie Discussion / Re: Editorial vs Commercial

Didn't my link provide the answer (for free?). We can't tell him if his clips should be editorial or commercial without seeing them.

Yes, free works as well, but you need to know the questions to ask! This is just one of many questions that should be in the minds of someone starting a money making business. But I'll get off my soapbox!

Newbie Discussion / Re: Editorial vs Commercial« on: May 08, 2020, 13:11 »
Here is my explanation: https://backyardsilver.com/rf-versus-rm-versus-editorial-versus-commercial/
As a general point, I really don't know why someone trying to make $100s on stock photos and videos won't spend $9.99 to actually learn about this stuff in a book!! Steve 104
Shutterstock.com / Re: May sales drop dramatically?« on: May 08, 2020, 09:10 »
I'm maybe down a little over the start of April, but there was the May day bank holidays in Europe, particularly, which gave me a slow start on the first day or two. I don't get $100 a day from Shutterstock, but have enough to see the trends.
But I do agree that this is not going to get better soon although it does depend on your portfolio, I guess. Steve 105
General - Stock Video / Re: Frame flicker and Digital Noise on 4K DJI drone footage« on: May 03, 2020, 11:00 »
I use the Mavic Pro 2 and only ever use the 100 ISO rating - anything above that does introduce noise. I have sometimes used Neat Video noise reduction in Premiere for evening shots, for instance, and I also use the stabilization plugin if the drone is static in the sky to avoid the normal movement with the wind blowing it around. Never seen an issue with flicker though.

General Stock Discussion / Re: April 2020 Earnings Report« on: May 01, 2020, 14:02 »Quote I didn't jump into the Covid-19 images, which anyone smart who follows trends should have done. Well, I did jump into that trend (and am still doing so) and so I can report a pretty reasonable month - total of just over $2800: As others have said - a wide range of images (and some videos have sold). Travel shots, studio shots and of course, virus shots! Full details, as usual, on my blog: https://backyardsilver.com/selling-stock-photos-in-april-2020/ Steve 107

I wrote an article about that very thing back in January: https://backyardsilver.com/my-workflow-for-video-stock/

Newbie Discussion / Re: New to stock, made my first sale« on: April 25, 2020, 14:45 »
I 100% agree with the comments from Jo Ann - especially not overlooking everyday activities and things. One very regular seller of mine is a shot of replacing the air filter in my heating system. There are always articles about the importance of regular household activities.
And yes, my tongue was in my cheek about the book! Sorry! Steve 109
Shutterstock.com / Re: financial district rejections« on: April 25, 2020, 11:38 »
I once got a legal letter from the "owners" of La Defence in Paris saying that they needed me to buy a license from them in order to sell photos of that area. I think I told them I had made $10 in my sales and so they didn't push for a retrospective license and I took the images down. This was probably 8 or 10 years back now.

One big piece of advice. Read a good book (or two) about How to Get Started in Stock....

Cutcaster / Re: Cutcaster Closing, Sat. April 25, 2020.« on: April 21, 2020, 16:53 »
I think it is a real sign of an ethical person to allow us to ask for any remaining balance before it finally closes. I had about $9 over there - so thanks John for this. After losing $80 or so with Crestock (yes, my own fault for never going to the site), it is refreshing to see a different approach.

Shutterstock will reject duplicates, although it is not a great plan to send them many duplicate files. Better to sort out where you are with them and then start clean with M+

MicrostockSubmitter / Re: Repeated Login Request from Adobe Stock. Over and over and over again« on: April 13, 2020, 15:24 »
At the moment it costs the same as Stock Submitter (and no more if you use both). It basically means that if they support the agency, then the app uploads just one copy of the file to their servers and they onward upload and submit to the agency. Maybe not a great advantage with still photos, but it makes a big difference with videos

I thought I would check my 123RF account when I read this. I use Stock Submitter as an App, but then upload via Microstock Plus to the supported sites (which include 123RF). All my recent uploads are showing up in my portfolio so M+ must have been submitting them.

123RF / Re: US Tax form 1099 from 123RF« on: April 12, 2020, 10:14 »
I looked on their site, but couldn't find the 1099 - is it online now? Not that it matters much - my taxes are filed long ago and the refund is already spent on a new PC build!

MicrostockSubmitter / Re: Service that handles all the uploading for you?« on: April 11, 2020, 09:32 »
As you posted this in the Microstock Submitter forum, I guess you are aware of that application. That one does the full process including the submission elements on each stock agency. I use this all the time for a one-stop shop approach to uploading and submission. I've written about it several times on my blog.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Dreamstime monthly contest removed.« on: April 05, 2020, 12:41 »
It did turn into a quarterly contest in the middle of last year I think. And the contest don't immediately follow each other. How do you know it is cancelled?

I just uploaded a couple of files from the App on a newly built Windows 10 machine. No issues for me with any of the sites (although I use Microstock Plus as well for the sites it supports.

I don't think they accept editorial images of any type, unless they have changed their policies recently
