Pond5 / Re: P5 Exclusives
« on: July 06, 2016, 08:50 »
Their email does not say why we should be exclusive. I emailed back to say I would be interested in learning more.

It doesn't hurt to know what the terms are.

Thanks to both Mantis and Rinderhart!

I rarely get rejections, and this rejection does not make sense. Just want to make sure that a resubmit will not be an offence.

53
I seem to remember that SS allows a rejected clip to be resubmitted for a review. Can anyone tell me what the correct procedure is?

Thanks!

Although my IS income has dropped around 20% or less, the revenue has somewhat been stable. I have only been uploading sporadically in small numbers in the past years.

I have no immediate plan to leave exclusivity. There are many other options to sell my images without violating the exclusive agreement. I hate to see my images sold at 0.75, therefore letting SS, FT and DT sell my images for even less is just not an option. I must add that GI sales sometimes generate over $100.

Over the years, it pains me to see how my images were used glamorously while I got pittance. It's sad that we often realize the value of our work too late. The most important thing for me is, I am reducing my reliance on Getty/IS, however, it will not serve my best interest to destroy the stable income stream.

I have had two this year.

Not only my Pond5 money did not arrive, the earning from FAA has not arrived either.

Maybe it's not an issue with Pond5, rather it is a Paypal problem.

58
The next big thing, I hope, lies in fine art, and not just pixels.  ::)

59
I have opted out.

60
Interesting. I thought 500px was a Russian-Canadian owned company originally.

My sales have not been very impressive in the past few months, although I had good sales history with FAA.

I am disappointed that FAA is trying very hard to become another "print stock image agency" which is not the reason I joined. The reason I signed up is to sell fine art prints which I can control the quantity, and not just for a few bucks to put my images on shower curtains and beddings.

I have opted out the retail option. But FAA's direction really worries me, I mean, from Fine Art to Pixels, literally. Hopefully it will not go too far.

Pond5 / Re: Is setting 80$ for a 4k video is too high?
« on: March 12, 2016, 18:22 »
I set my 4k at around $120-200.

I have started to price some of my 4k work lower than 200 as well. If it's is a very common subject then I will price it a few bucks lower.  My 4k ranges from $140 to $200. I still have yet to sell a single 4k clip, though.  Been shooting it since May 2015.

I have sold both through P5 and SS. I agree it depends on the subject.

My guess is, even though they once demanded for other people's true IDs, they have changed their user names.  :P  :o

Mat, thank you very much for your help!

I have more questions if you or anyone can help me with:

1. If I make some video clips exclusive, what are the advantages?

2. Does FT accept editorial video clips? If not, if the clip is the skyline of a major city such as New York City, where some buildings contain corporate logos, will FT accept it as RF without property release?

Thanks again!

General - Stock Video / Re: Converting night clip from 15p to 25p
« on: February 02, 2016, 19:39 »
Peter, it was just a straight conversion from 15p to 25p. Please enlighten me because I don't really know much about video.
If you take each frame of a 15 fps (15 frames for one second) clip and play them sequentially on a 30 fps time line, (I'll use 30 because the math is easier) you can see that you are now needing 2 seconds of 15 fps to make up a second of 30 fps timeline. So the viewer sees 2 original seconds in a one second period. It is obviously speeded up. The quality would be good just time-lapsed.

But you could also ask the editor to play the 15 fps in a 30fps time line but keep the 15 fps in real time. Now there needs to be a frame added between every frame you shot to fill in the timeline to make it 30 fps. The quality here is iffy especially if the scene is rapidly changing.

Yes, it looked like time lapse. Thanks again!

It may have nothing to do with the time conversion.

Zeus, thanks for the reply. Could you please tell me whether or not it is a good idea to shoot night clip at 15p and then convert to higher frame rate? I was just experimenting but the results have confused me.

I experimented in converting night clips from original 15p to either 25p or 30p (cannot remember exactly).

SS accepted all and P5 rejected all.

Can anyone comment on why they were rejected or accepted?

Thanks!

Getty will distribute VCG images outside China, therefore Getty controls Corbis images to a certain degree. I think this is what he meant.

What about Jon's own financial incentives through stocks? Does more money make him a worse performer than he was???

 ::) ;D

Now there's a hypothesis as to why SS needs the extra money - they've agreed to take on the 36th floor of the Empire State Building (25,000 sq feet) in 2016!
