First thing I would suggest is... pay the * fine.

Makes one wonder how large the fine is to make them consider shooting themselves in the foot.

...
Total number of images on the site....as of today.....divided by the total number of sales on the site.....
I'm very suprised that SS is not the best seller for almost everybody.....it doesn't make sense. ...

That isn't what people are comparing. You're showing earnings per image and everyone else is posting average earnings per sale, Total Income/# of Sales. Shutterstock has my lowest earnings per sale but the highest earnings per image as you would expect.

why aren't you using paypal ???

Although Paypal sucks I guess I will from now on considering I can't get them to tell me if the check has indeed been sent or not.

Still no check but I did get a response from them...

"I am sorry but it takes quite a long time to send checks since both the
American and the Hungarian department checks them.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding!"

So I guess what we've learned from this is StockXpert is not the place to request a check from.

123RF / Re: 123rf Notification results
« on: December 06, 2006, 04:31 »
SS, StockXpert, DT, LO, & BS  might beg to differ. Oh well, it's their site and their call. However, I'm thinking at this point about just deleting the whole batch and walking away.   If I'm going to run a 50% rejection on my hottest selling pix, what's the point of uploading my portfolio?

Playing devil's advocate for a moment... I've noticed that some photos sell better on one site than they do at another, I'm sure you have too. This could be to differences in the buyers each site attracts or differences in the competition at a particular site. 123RF may just be aware of these factors and reject images in segments that have traditionally been under-performers or over represented.

That aside 123RF actually doesn't reject that much. At least they've accepted ~93% of what I've sent them. They're not great on sales though. I suspect if you keep submitting your percentage accepted will go up quite a bit. Whether that equates with it being worth your time to submit considering the sluggish sales is unknown.

As for their email system. I've never been able to get an email from them. They're in my whitelist and my ISP says they aren't blocked but I haven't been able to get 123RF to look into the matter. Really quite frustrating. StockXpert also had the same problem for awhile but they fixed the problem on their end after a few months with only a couple of reminders to do so.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Using TIFF & Saving to JPEG
« on: December 06, 2006, 04:10 »
Bit of a newbie question here ...

I understand that making adjustments in a different layer does not change the actual image. But then some agencies require that the images submitted have just one layer. So you have to combine the layers you've been working on ... and the image is changed, no?

So what's the advantage of working in layers?

You should always submit a flattened image to the agency. The advantages of layers are to you not to the end user. They allow you to revert or change edits at a future time in an easy and time efficient manner. Basically adding a great deal of flexibility in processing. Yes, the final product is different than the original. The original would be some sort of RAW format. The working copy would be your unsharpened, unflattened PSD with all its layers or your editor's equivalent. And then there would be the various final output images which have been edited and sharpened dependent on the size needed and how they are going to be output.

You can still get 110 online from places like Adorama, B&H, etc.

so only buyers who click on your istock link and buy credits then you get $10??

If its a photographer that clicks on your istock link and sign up under you, you don't get anything?

Correct

Sarcastic, no. Joke, yes.

StockXpert.com / Payments
« on: November 30, 2006, 21:21 »
I requested a payment from StockXpert and it took 11 days to get a payment notification saying they had sent a check. It's been another 11 days and still no check. Doesn't seem like it should take this long for a check to go from Hungary to the US. Only takes 4 days for a letter to make it to Germany.

For those who have requested checks before, how long did it take to receive it?

I want the very last thing I do to an image to get filtered for noise

Why do you do it this way? Everything I've read and heard indicates noise should be handled first.

Why not just PSD and JPEG?

Yes it is. Is it the old style for everyone or can people choose which style they like better?

Any chance of making the old style layout an option on a per person basis? I liked how all the threads were in one place rather than having to pick through different sections.

Lately when I get a rejection I just resubmit the photo right away. They are almost always accepted. Oddly enough, the very few that have been rejected have come back with a different reason for rejection.

If I recall correctly it was about a month wait for me. Upside is once they approve you they often start to approve the photos before you even finish uploading a batch.

This hasn't been a great month for me at SS but the day before and Thanksgiving day itself saw my sales more than triple compared to the daily average for the month. I didn't think a holiday would have good downloads. Was there a promotion at SS or is this buyers just trying to use up their subscriptions?
