Just two sales so far on a small portfolio of just over 100. Not sure about this one.

Just curious, does anyone have any idea of how many reviewers there would be on a site of a similar size?

In the absence of reviewers and the ratings, would there any way to get the best pictures to the front pages of a search. I cant see many buyers wading through pages of mediocre shots to find the one they want I would rarely go past the 5th page of a search on Google.

This could all be academic as the owners may have other ideas, but they do advertise themselves as democratic!

Agreed it would be good to have a bit of a debate on this question. I think MostPhotos is an interesting site but the voting and ratings cause problems.

I have given my opinion on the link that Magnum has left, but If the site for whatever reason cant provide reviewers it would be good to put forwards some constructive ideas for a solution to the problem.

Then again you may like things as they are!

Thats great! Now can I have one that makes everyone vote a 10 on my images at Mostphotos  :D

I think you should ask that question at a later date sharpshoot! The site is still quite new and I wouldnt like to see it condemned at this stage it needs experienced members. The site is quite innovative maybe not always in the way we would like and I think the owners are listening. If it does succeed it could change things for the better. Stick around for a while and give them more time.

I dont think that Windmill is calculating and malicious, he was just playing the game. Unfortunately at MP this is something you are encouraged to do. Its the game that is the problem not the individual.

Thanks for giving your side of the story Windmill and I for one hope you continue to post here.

I second that post Stacey. Why is The MIZ being so mysterious on this one? Is he trying to reinvent himself? No more Cranky MIZis it to be Mysterious MIZ from now on?

Im just a bit concerned that with this format we are going to miss out on the topics talked about in the other languages, as well as some of the international characters.

It seems to me that MP has a bit of an identity problem, in that its not sure if it is a photo club or professional stock site. One thing it cant afford to do is to bleed good photographers. The rating problem needs addressing quickly, the buyers not us need to be kept happy. Is it too difficult to let those who want to participate in the ratings to be separated from those who dont?

Im not sure if you work for Photoshelter Slimshady but your many posts about them would suggest that you do. The problem that I have with them is the strange way they want to put travel images into the News or News Plus collection. The majority of travel images are not news so why make this the only option? It states on the site that there is a gray area between News and Creative. A terrorist action is news; a picture of a sailboat off a Greek island is not. A confusing situation for both the contributors and buyers. Which further goes on to complicate things with pricing and whether you can sell them as RM or RF. Other agencies manage to get this right why not Photoshelter?

If you are connected with Photoshelter could you let me know just how long it takes to get a reply to sitemail, so far I have been waiting two weeks for a reply to the above question?

No, I mean if the clients of photoarte see that you are the author they may also ask questions of photoarte.

Unrelated, but I have just seen several of your self-portraits showcased in a UK monthly photo magazine. All legitimate, but they may confuse some of the culprits clients

Good idea ParisEye, being able to opt in or out of the ratings. It would stop any conflict.

The site for me is quite refreshing and it does have a strong following amongst many of its members. For good reason. It doesnt feel as corporate and distant as some and it does try to include its members in decisions and asks instead of forcing policies through. They are trying to offer something different and to get a better deal for their photographers. In short its a nice place to be. A point that I also feel will be important to the buyers as well.

I too have had reservations about the rating system and have taken this up with Arian. He has gone through this in some detail both here and with myself. The site is quite new, for now I think we have to trust him.

But to get back to Marks point of buyers waiting to buy and increasing sales. Surely thats a good position to be in. The site is looking for more pictures to really get things moving. I hope more of you join now rather than waiting to see what happens, for its now that you can make a difference. MP is a democratic site but as in any democracy you need to take part for it to work.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Country league table

Thanks, If I can just ask another question along the same lines; are there noticeable differences in what sells to the various countries or is it similar subjects?

General Stock Discussion / Country league table
« on: March 23, 2008, 05:37 »
I was just wondering. Is there a league table for which country is buying the most pictures? It would be interesting to see say the top 10. I would imagine that America would head this because of size but who would be next? Or is this information too difficult to find?

Well said rinderart, nice to hear such a positive remark.

Reason no. 20: The owner and admin are helpful and really trying to make an impact.

Reason no 21: rinderart; his pictures are superb!

I like MP. The more of you that join the site and dare I say 'Vote' the better ... that would help get the best stock pictures to the top and perhaps more sales.
