I read it also that statement. And you don't have to worry about it. All professional video cameras are used with manual focusing. There is no professional or semi-professional camera with auto focusing (ok, there is a few exceptions). This camera is intended to be first professional DSMC camera so autofocusing is not needed in video production.
My concerns goes to exposure compensation because in movie mode you can't change ISO. I hope that compensation is good enough to cover all light situations.

Canon / Re: Canon extender yes or no?
« on: October 17, 2008, 16:36 »
Thanks for answers! As I see 1,4x will be good upgrade to my lenses.

Zeus, Some weird combination with 90TSE! Do you have any picture online somewhere to see that combination. I have 45TSE and it will be fun to experiment with it.

Canon / Canon extender yes or no?
« on: October 17, 2008, 15:45 »
I am new Canon user and I have 24-70mm, 100-400mm and some wide lenses. I am planing to buy 70-200/f4 lens also. Does any of you use 1,4x or 2x extender on these lenses. As for photo I am also interested in using them for video on upcoming 5DMkII.
I use 1,4x extender on Zuiko lenses on E3 Oly and it was big degradation on the lens performance. Much more then they said in specification.
Does anybody have experience with extender on Canon lenses?
What is the best combination 70-200/f2.8/IS3 with extender or 70-200/f4/IS4 with extender in the metter of image sharpnes on the final output? I want to compare photo results to video because f2.8 or f4 can be compensate with ISO settings because noise isn't so big problem on the video. In fact, lot of professionals video cameras has ISO equivalent to 2000 ISO or more witch is so high.
Thanks.

Canon / Re: Lens recommendations for a new Canon user
« on: October 14, 2008, 16:10 »
And I will not recommend 17-40mm lens. It is not a good lens. Soft, CA, ...

I disagree with the statement here as I have been using the lens with full satisfaction.I don't know if you have first hand experience with the lens but even if you did it must be the copy you use The lens I own is very sharp and produces beautiful colours as for CA yes you are right to some extend but such wide angle lenses tend to have CA on the wide end ,which is pretty normal and nothing too bad about it. as for comparing the two ( 24-70 --and 17-40) they both have pros and cons if I could afford I would also get the 24-70 as well, as sometimes I need to go further than 40mm  then  have to change the lens in such situations.
to sum up:it all depends on your needs I would say both lenses are excellent .

Well, stokfoto, you are probably right. I coming from Olympus E3, 11-22mm and 7-14mm so I am used to them. I will try this lens for upcoming days more and I hope I will be happy at the end. If not, I read reviews that 16-35mm is even better lens but I didn't try it yet and it is not a cheap lens also.

Canon / Re: Lens recommendations for a new Canon user
« on: October 14, 2008, 13:26 »
if you have the $$ I would get a 70-200 2.8 IS.  It is my favorite lens and the one I probably used the most in Malta.  Mostly for close ups though,... portraits and the like.

24-70 2.8 is also a nice lens for everything... works as a portrait lens at the 70mm end or landscape at the 28 end, so pretty versatile if you only are going to buy one lens.

85 1.8 if you want a nice portrait lens.

50 1.8 if you want a cheap fun lens.

Leaf said all you need to know!  ;)

I am new canon user and 24-70 2.8 is something, and very very sharp lens for a zoom lenses.

I will add 15mm fish eye for fun!

And I will not recommend 17-40mm lens. It is not a good lens. Soft, CA, ...

Fuji S5 (for portraits etc.)
Olympus E-3 (for travel)
Panasonic M4/3 (carry anywhere)
Canon 5D (replacement for the OM-3, for my old Zuikos)

Interesting move dbajurin, what are u going to do with ur Zuiko lenses ?

Well, I will use them forever.I love my 12-60mm and 50-200mm (and 11-22 also and ...). I will never give them or sell them to anybody. They earned all my future canons and canon lenses :)

I am video producer and director and I can say that if they buy picture from any stock site they buy rights for use it in movie but if they download from free site they don't have rights.
In any case they have to place credit at the end of the movie.
World famous case like this is Giger case in Alien IV (I think it is IV). They don't have to pay anything for his work but forgot to put his name in credits. After he sue production company they pay him as off-court agreement.
I hope that some of this facts can help you what to do.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Do RAW files sell?
« on: October 07, 2008, 16:44 »
In fact you don't need to sell your raw files with this option. It is not even idea to do that. Main purpose of this option is for you to create DNG format from your files and upload them instead of raw. In that case you don't have to worry about your rights and buyer will still get 16it color image.
They put all raw formats because not everyone know hot to produce DNG format.
Main problem is who need 16bit color image. In real world of designers almost nobody will pay extra for 16bit.

What is the higher profit item than 5DMkII? Maybe, 5DMkII with 3 lenses. So, I ask for 3 lenses and 5DMkII and still has no answer. Has anybody any kind of answer from "fred"?

Istock isn't even close to FT rejections. How one can say that in public?

Probably you can. But don't forget that in 90% of cases video from Nikon D90 wont be acceptable on stock (or you have to do same shot dozen of times). Canon used the same shutter technology but they say 5D solve shutter problem. We will see but don't buy it until pros approve it.
This is the main problem of shutter video on SLR camera:

Have some of you and specialy Peter born as natural photographer and start producing photos right after you born. I don't think so. I don't even think that your first pictures even worth something.
So, give some of this new sites time at least year or two. You can upload or not but don't judge sites while they are new and trying to find their part in this business.

I work a lot on Apple 30" and I can't see the difference just one and that is the price.
