Pond5 / Re: Is Pond5 Worth It?

I've created video template and it works just fine for me when applied on batch of photos (for setting price etc.).

^ I checked. It is a video template. I've just tried to apply it on photos and submit something I had in queue and it works fine. Perhaps it depends on what fields you fill in your template, don't know.

yes, it's really confusing to use, and as I don't go there more than once a fortnight I feel like I have to relearn how to use it every time I return.

ok, so I went back in and spent 5 mins looking around and I found the templates tab.
It's under "uploads"
there's a line of soft grey text - this is also where you find the Releases bit.
I felt like I was going around in circles to find it.
But there still is no photo template

You can use the other one. I think it was video one (or perhaps audio?). I don't remember. Yet you can use it because it is possible to apply it on photos. Confusing, but works.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Great News (!)

Not really sure, but leaning towards the protesting crowd. I've seen too many rules like this hitting the honest users or the ones violating it by mistake while the real abusers remain unaffected.

As far as I can say, these acts are - at the current revision - very vague which only strengthens my doubts.
Which rules have hit honest users? Just interested to know.

Let me give you two examples. Both are obviously different in many aspects...

1. CD/DVD/Software copyright protection. As far as I know it did not reduce volume of illegal copies that much (if at all). It however prevented me personally from playing a CD in my car's CD player and it prevented me from playing a DVD on my Linux based laptop (just because they were somehow not compatible with that particular disk protection) - both were bought legal copies. It forced my brother (who plays computer games) to look for a "crack" for his legally obtained computer game to get the thing run on his computer. And it is well known that this happens regularly to people around the world.

2. In my country there was - for certain period of time - rather strict legislation in the area of drug abuse. The laws said that anyone can be sentenced to prison for holding "drug quantity greater than small" (it was this vague). It lead to several sentences for marihuana smokers as well as other people that certainly did not participate in drugs business. It was changed after several years because statistics proved it did not improve situation at all and did not hit the actual drug business at all.

From the article:

Quote
Kelly has now decided that the time is right for him to leave the business to pursue other interests...

Sounds like it was his decision, although who knows what transpired to lead him to that.

I don't think so. This is the common way to say he was fired.

I think the FT poller no longer points to the right location after they revamped their site, so it no longer works... It does not work for me either.

Nothing to do with exclusivity.

There is it right next to the check boxes

Commission
50% - Image is only offered via PantherMedia (and equally/more expensive stock agencies)
30% - Image is also offered in cheaper stock agencies

The "cheaper agencies" are obviously microstock agencies.

10
Everyone sees the two options. I think Aeonf means that since you are likely selling the same stuff in micros, you should be always selecting 30%. If you have specific images that you sell at higher priced agencies only, then 50% would be the right choice.

And then there is obviously the "liar's" option...

I've all mine at 30%.

Firefox 8.0, Chrome 16.0, IE7 - all display the image WITH watermark.

I had 2, both at $0.33.

Do you have any reason to think that this is unusual?

Another bug: I tried to request a payout today. I filled in the paypal email address. Then confirmed the request. After that I got red error message saying that the request could not be processed due to DB error. Yet the amount was deducted from my balance.

Same here . DB error , money was deducted , clicked Contact us to send a ticket and got an blank page  :o . Now I see that at least my money is back but wouldn't try another request until further notice from IS . MB cutoff is in 4 hours . What a joke service for a 84% share

Yup, my money were added back to my balance as well.

Bigstock.com / Re: $0.00 download?
« on: June 03, 2011, 13:22 »
Today, I noticed that I had an image downloaded twice on BigstockPhoto. Once for $1.00 and once for $0.00. Anyone else seeing anything like this or have any ideas?
Yes, at least since their recent announcement about new prices, all sales seems to appear twice - once with 0 and once with some actual price.

Overall average. IS disastrous. While I understand that being small earner means more fluctuation, IS was pretty steady with monthly earnings in last 1/2 year - $78, $113, $99, $87, $103, $106 just to fall to $17 this month.

I'm just happy I'm not relying on the income. If I would fall from $1000 to $170 (same proportion), that would be much more painful.

General Stock Discussion / Re: RF: self-killing?
« on: May 14, 2011, 12:58 »
I think as time goes on, subscriptions are going to kill it.  These agencies would like to bill for 'services' rather than sell 'products' on which they have to pay commissions.   The subscription model breaks the commission model.  Subscriptions will evolve into ever more complex (from our point of view) plans where the buyer is paying a fee to the stock agency for ongoing use of a very large number of images.  Part of what they'll be payinf for will be indexing and searching of images to which they already have the rights. In other words, stock imagery becomes a fee-based service in the "cloud".   How do you calculate a commission to a photographer when the buyer never actually buys an image at a single point in time? The answer is, you don't; agencies will just pay photographers whatever they think is the absolute minimum necessary to keep new images coming in - to the extent they even need or want new images.  They can make those payments look like commissions on sales, but that's just a retro fiction that will probably be replaced with something new - like a monthly payment supposedly based on the revenue your images generated.

The situation for image creators is similar to that of musicians.  Amazon and Google don't want to sell recordings, they want pay-to-play subscriptions to their cloud-based services.

Is this all bad?  Can't say. But the future has a way of arriving whether we want it or not.

Interesting thoughts....

They recently had troubles and disabled access to all accounts. So it is not just you.

For details see:

http://www.microstockgroup.com/stockxpert-com/here-we-go-again/msg196697

It happened for second time. First time around it took quite some time for them to restore the access. We will see what happens this time around.

I believe that spirit is well known from forums of some other MS sites. Nothing new. IS is just getting in line with them on that front. Not the special community it used to be...

Yes, you have to do it file by file. Or you can try to contact support and ask them to do it for you for all your files at once.
