That's interesting __ if you click on Mortmatche's name now he has disappeared! Along with his Corporate Master shield.

Wise move to delete - ban buyers.

I believe istock is encouraging big producers at the expense of smaller producers. Only the biggest producers will be able to access the best royalties. The long term effect of this will be a lack of diversity, with a huge number of similar images in the library. Short term profits but long term death.
+1

Hmm, I see very many diamond and even black diamond contributors voicing the fact that they will see huge cut in the IS forum. Or are these not considered big enough to be big producers. If not, then there is only handful of big producers, two or three?

^ Agree. I'm done uploading  for now (every bit counts). I still have some stuff in the queue and that's all they will get for now.

EDIT - I think they used to have the size of their queue some place on the site. Is this now gone?

I don't believe anyone threatening to drop exclusivity will do it. the cost would be far greater to the contributor.

You are not considering the option that other major players could offer the big (diamond) exclusive special deals. FT openly talked about this months ago and is actively promoting their willingness to "take care of" people now.

So if such a big player with worthwhile portfolio calls them, it is quite possible they will just put their portfolio up in one step, give them reasonable level and ensure their images are properly ranked.

All of this reminds me of why I love Shutterstock.
All this reminds me of why I have always loved Dreamstime too. Achilles makes a conscious effort to create a level playing field for contributors new and old, the opposite of what IS has always done.

Agree (while there could have been some weaker spots).

However far more importantly - this moves make it very difficult for the fairer sites to survive and compete. Their fairer (to contributors) strategy means they have less (and probably far less) money to use to grab market share.

My other question, never got answered. Does ThinkStock pay exclusives more than the rest of us peons? I don't think so. I've never seen anything over the stinkin' quarter per download.

I thought they get from 0.3 to 0.38 based on their canister.

My understanding is that there are now pay-per-download or credit sales on TS. I know some people got those, so I know they exist. Could those willing to share say whether they had any and at what price? From what I know it may be pretty difficult to find out.

As far as I know the sync of images people opt-in to those partner sites is broken for several months (no new images that are being opted-in are available there).

There is no info on when this will be fixed. All question I saw in IS forums about this were answered in way like "no info" by IS admins.

Well, there may be exceptions, like FD :]]

is there a date cut? like before the date all the payment isn't taxed?

if there is a date, contributors who got affected should drawn it before the date.

15th September

As FT backed down on the requirement for an ITIN, I am sure DT will as well.  Just look at the forum and it is already full of people demanding them to drop the ITIN requirement.  What will it be like when everyone finds out?...

I would suggest everyone joins with a simple and polite statement on DT forums. The more the better. No complaining or calling names is needed. Just stating the fact that ITIN should not be needed.

« on: August 31, 2010, 13:46 »
I no, not another stock site that got it wrong regarding the requirement of an ITIN for non-US citizens. Wonder how long it will take to convince Dreamtime that the only requirement is the W8-BEN without an ITIN. I still remember how both SS and FT also insisted on the ITIN. It was only after mass hysteria from contributors that they were forced to do their homework properly and acknowledged that an ITIN is not required. Dreamstime is very late to comply with the tax law requirements. I would have thought that by now they should have learned from the mistakes of the other stock sites.

Oh boy, exactly.

Adobe Stock / Re: New prices for unsold files at FT
« on: August 31, 2010, 12:23 »
Also, the fact that images which sell 5 times at base price are boosted back up to the higher price does give the images a chance to earn more again.

The formulation in the email says that they won't be boosted back. They will allow you to set the price to higher values again. I guess that may be huge issue for someone like you with thousands of images, that is unless they provide some easy to use tool to do so or some type of notification emails.

(And yeah, unfortunately I'm far from being affected either)

I never touched the prices for my uploaded files, so I guess mine are set to a minimum...

This sound like normal (i.e. the only possible) credit price for all non-exclusive files and non-exclusive contributors up to Emerald level when you can start to set this normal prices higher.

It's certainly not proven that it is the IS staff. It is more likely to be the Getty side of the operation. IS has said that it simply posts the numbers when the data are delivered to it.

Quite possible. IS staff attitude regarding the topics in the forums cannot be explained by that. Well, other than that they are theirs employer.

That was RF license and price is 45,46$, my part is 27,28$, but price for that resolution is 90...?

Where do you take the info that the price is 90 Euro? There is nothing like fixed price. And there are huge discounts if you are big enough...

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Partner Program Delayed Earnings
« on: August 29, 2010, 12:52 »
It is nearly September now and we still haven't got the partner program royalties for July. Is it just me or is this much of a delay totally unacceptable?

I was just reading the iStock forum topic about this and was wondering what . is going on there. While I personally don't really care, it is obvious that this can't be just technology. I think there are two main things in the area of PP:

1. They appear to delay the earnings report more and more. Now it seems to hardly hit before the end of month folowing the month for which the earnings are.
2. There appears to be problem with opting-in new files for many months (at least that's what people tell in the IS forums). Their staff aknowledged that it is really the case but that's it.

As I said, this can't be technology that is blocking these two things from being fixed. There must be more to it. I also highly doubt this is just ignorance. It seems that they don't want to fix it and they have a reason for not doing it. What reason?

I aslo feel ashamed by the approach that IS staff takes to these two topics in the forums. They play games with contributors a) pretending that everything is just fine with the PP earning being reported this late and b) bashing anyone that complains about the PP opt-in problem telling them that that is not the topic of the thread. Unethical. In may early days of microstocking I got the impression that IS is the best place with the best staff. It is sad it turned this way.

i tried to opt out, but it doesn't appear you can do that anymore. do you need to notify alamy's admin instead?

We have August, not April now.

Once signed up your images remain in the scheme, but you can opt out each April.

... their review strategy appears to be to reject the entire backlog. ...

Does not seem to be the case. They reviewed my 40 images, 12 got through, rest rejected. So they are likely looking at the images. Anyway, by far the worst acceptance ration...

Lisa, I don't know what I did differently, but when I search your portfolio on FAMILY, I get 607 hits, and BUSINESS gives 837 hits.
I just did it by typing FAMILY in "search Lisafx portfolio", nothing else.  In advanced settings, nothing is ticked, so my default settings don't filter anything.

They said few posts above that they have fixed the issue...

I'd believe it if Thinkstock actually had some clout.  Which they don't given their pitiful Alexa numbers.  They are growing, but their numbers are still laughably low.  SS was undercut by FT in my opinion 2 years ago.  The other agency sub plans seem to undercut SS too.  Everyone seems to want to blame Getty on this issue.  I bet they only wish Thinkstock had that type of industry power.

Here's another interesting statistic:
http://google.com/trends?q=istockphoto.com%2C+photos.com&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

Guess who owns photos.com?

I don't understand what Getty wants to achieve. Why do they direct buyers towards sub sites? It must bring less royalties to them and ofc also to us. The only plausible explanation is that they wanna eat into Shutterstock sales. But is SS really such a pain in the ass that they are prepared to sacrifice IS?

This is indeed very interesting although have you noticed from where most of the photos.com traffic comes? India? Why such a huge portion?
