^^ That's not true. They don't offer the images for download. The fact that they can be downloaded does not mean anything in this context. If you use it for you project on website, then it also can be downloaded. They marked those images as copyrighted on Flickr meaning that not them but anyone downloading them from Flickr and using them commits the crime, not them.

In other words if they are using the Flickr account as storage or sharing vehicle (between say project group members), it is not violation of any rules. Except that it sounds pretty stupid.

WRONG!!!

If it is copyrighted that means that the person who posted the image has to have the copyright for it. They cannot post it without the proper license and even with the license (purchased from the agency) they have to state the name of the copyrighter (or photographer). I doubt anybody licensed the images for Flickr so they can't post any of our images. That means that they can't use Flicker to store our images (that they have purchased from agencies) even if they put our names underneath the image.

Kone

Ok, you are probably right.

Is it legal to offer the images on ThinkStockPhoto when you've never agreed with them being offered there? I doubt that...

Bigstock.com / Re: Increase in BigStock downloads lately?
« on: March 11, 2010, 03:56 »
[Small sample here]

I see large increase (and BTW, I did not have any per picture sale on SS for approx. 1 months with about 300 photos). That looks like the per picture sales migrated to BigStock. Yet too small sample here to judge. I surely hope it is just fluke in my stats.

What is the average monthly income in ukraine?
"Teachers make about $75-80 USD, not UAH, at the elementary level. That goes up to roughly $175 for a seasoned university professor or school director. "

The situation in Ukraine is not that bad. I spent two weeks in Kiev for work, and I used to spend more than 50$ a week just for food, it's cheaper but not much cheaper than Frankfurt where I usually live.
The rural areas in Ukraine are cheaper than Kiev, but, again, not so much cheaper.

The fact missing from all these theories is that most of these countries develop in a rapid pace (although somewhat affected by the crisis). So it is not at all a static picture. The same is true for China. Cost of living and more importantly their living standards are ricing. These two variables together form acceptable income to support the living style at given costs. Note that the faster growing variable in this equation is the living standard. Some of them (and certainly those having the DSLR to participate in MS) now perceive good cell phone and a car as must-have. It was very different 10+ years ago.

I'm from Czech Republic. The average salary here rose almost 100% in the past 10+ years. I've University degree in IT. When I started my career, I worked for equivalent of approx. $600. Now I earn approx. $4000. That's obviously affected by my experience that I gained, yet not only. I would hardly start under $1000 these days, probably somewhere around $1500.

How much it rose in the US in that same time frame? The fact is that most of these developing countries are still far behind in their living standards and costs yet they are approach the western countries in rapid pace.

DepositPhotos / Re: All good things come to an end ! :(
« on: March 10, 2010, 07:34 »
Someone just sent me a link to my stolen images on depositfiles. No way I'll upload anything to their system site regardless of how much promotion they pay. No way!

Many portfolios full of stolen images were found several times on all major micros (SS and IS including). So is there anything specific to this case with DP like that they refuse to deal with it?

Adobe Stock / Re: Sales this month at Fotolia
« on: March 07, 2010, 12:47 »
Constant rise in number of downloads, most are subscriptions, premium subscriptions and XS's. Small sample here, yet the tendency at least for me is very clear. May be my type of images...

My last 30 sales:
Premium subscription - 11
Subscription - 8
XS - 7
S - 2
L - 1
XL - 1

Great. I was able to figure out the 123RF and this last patch solve BigStock.

Thanks

PicNiche Toolbar / Re: picNiche not working
« on: March 06, 2010, 08:14 »
I've just updated to the newest version and neither bigstockphoto nor 123RF are working for me, however each bit differently (I've tried pretty much everything, cleaning history/cookies, restarting computer, logging in and out in every possible way to those sites):

- BS does not show any username in the select box in options of your toolbar and it always pops the message 'no username match...'

-123RF shows the correct username, does not pop any message (as if everything would be ok) but it does not show any balance next to the icon. Nothing.

StockXpert.com / Re: Site down?
« on: March 06, 2010, 06:38 »
They closed on 11th Feb and all business has been transferred to IS. Why would you expect the site to be 'up'?

Because I intend to rake in the millions of Dollars earned by my images at ThinkStockPhoto via this site  ;D At least that is how I understood the plan: Opt your photos in for subscriptions at StockXpert, get them transfered to Thinkstock, collect the money at StockXpert  ???

Yes, they stated several times in the messages they sent to every member that the site will stay running for those opted in into the ThinkStock to check and transfer their earnings.

Does anyone knows where are these sales happening, for what price and what % are we actually getting? Sounds like everyone is happy with getting couple of Euros and that's enough to shut their mouth.

if he can't sustain it, what about the non professional microstockers ?

We non-pros don't care about sustainability. We have the income from what we are pros in to aid us in ruining the business for you ;).

« on: March 04, 2010, 01:58 »
Yes, obviously some are not excluding it.

I even saw blog posts about monthly earnings including DP relatively high in the charts without mentioning they are there because of upload bonus, not real earnings. And obviously with a nice thick referral link under, above and on the side of the article.

169
You don't really see alot of those energy source windmills.

They are all around the place wherever I travel. Very easy to shoot. Well covered subject (hey, but what is not...;]). You can certainly see a lot of those.

« on: February 27, 2010, 06:15 »
yeah yeah yeah  :)  I'll get to it on Monday.

Why three classification at all?
Numbers from our votes will show all of it from month to month in they order. Maybe make line in first 10 and below that put all up an coming.

Why ten? Marketing decision...  ;D

I would agree - both the 'Big 6' and 'Up and coming' are misleading names. Many of those up and coming are actually sitting there for years. And now some of those Big 6 are not that big. Merge it all together.

171
I read the threads I'm interested in and ignore the rest.

The same here. In case the referring fests are limited to specific threads, it is fine with me. I never pick the one I sign up under among those spamming in those threads.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Why is 123rf doing this?
« on: February 19, 2010, 03:28 »
While I understand that it is not good that they did not reply promptly to your mails, I don't think they are doing this intentionally. Rather looks like a bug in their system - the balance total may be based on a sum counted from sales from your images and deleting them causes the balance to go down.

I would expect that they will look at that and pay you as, obviously, doing otherwise would be clearly illegal. I don't believe they will go that route. You may want to call them. Phone is always better in these matters.

My guess is this is just coincidence, but never had so many such low price sales in row there. The volume is nowhere near the SS and so rows like this make for a huge drop in earnings (yet my sample is obviously small).
