1. Go back to old canister system

2. Stop adding features until site actually works like it should.

3. Encourage community to promote IS around the world

Busy advertising company has deadline for Friday morning, locked out of iStock for 45min, they go to Shutter Stock because they are in a jam. They find what they need and when their contract comes up to renew at iStock they choose to go with ShutterStock instead. If this is how the new CEO is working  say fire her before its to late!

Some village lost their idiot and now I see iStock has hired them! I have never seen such incompetence in my life from a company this size. I was having decent sales until now!

Yes the issues run deep but I have a family to feed so its not something I can just guess at. I don't think Getty is going anywhere anytime soon.

I have done the math and talked with many contributors on SS and Pond5, I have done this at least 5 times. With iStock I also have my files on Getty which in the end
still earns more over the long run. Considering I make over $40.00 per 720 -1080 file size on iStock its not hard to see where you will earn the most. Then you have to add in the time it takes to upload to many different sites and what your return on investment would be. I have been at this since 2006 and have watched the market evolve. If iStock can keep their site running smooth and get inspection times down "Some progress is being made there" then I do feel with the quality content they have they will be a market leader. Just to have SimonKR with 20,000 files of amazing quality brings a lot of buyers there. I average 5 to 6 sales a day not counting Getty.

I have been on the verge of dropping my exclusivity many times. I just can't afford the risk at this point in time.

iStock deleted my post of concern. I said this is not a hobby for me as this site feeds my family, I have real concern with how this site
is being managed and can not understand why the largest micro site in the industry can not run as good as Amazon or its competition.
My confidence has been shaken and after waiting all night to see if the bugs would clear they haven't and there are new ones.

Fact is I love iStock but if this type of management continues there won't be an iStock to love. If I get frustrated just adding files I can only
imagine a buyer being frustrated when they have deadlines to meet.

I am glad SS footage is working well for you! I am exclusive to IS on the video side and I have been since they started. I have been able to quit my day job because of iStock and have been doing it full-time for over 1.5 years. I still feel iStock has one of the highest quality collections out there! I look often at other sites as well. I am not holding a candle for iStock it is just working for me. I am super glad for the news of increase for video at SS, that is great news for the many who work hard and deserve decent commission.

« on: November 18, 2011, 09:09 »
I too feed my family via iStock, now I shoot video and am exclusive. I see some good trends on my end. First is quality of collection, iStock still has a great exclusive collection. Next is iStock offers different collections, now some of you don't like this but it works in retail and business. My sales have been good this year and better than 2010. I don't think iStock is going to lose a lot of ground to SS.

We use Samaritan Ministries http://www.samaritanministries.org/ While it is not for everyone it works well for us! I have free healthcare with my family doctor which helps a lot. Samaritan covers the rest for our needs. Cost is $320.00 per month for all four of us. Like I said it won't be for everyone but works well for us. You have to fit the mold here which a lot of people won't or choose not too. If interested let me know as I think I can get a referral bonus.

I worked in healthcare for 15 years in Radiology and Radiation Therapy. The main problem with insurance is co-insurance, you can find a cheap plan but you will pay at least 30 percent out of your own pocket which easily goes into the thousands couple that with a high deductible and bam you are broke. If you have no insurance you will easy get 50% off all your bills, at least I have. I just tell them I am self-pay and let my health sharing take care of the rest which covers everything over $300.00. Obama care is not all bad but the whole system is so corrupt I don't know how this will all play out. I could tell you a lot of true stories!

Take care of your health, exercise, eat right and drink lots of water. Find a plan that covers your needs but no more. Have enough savings. Use a HSA if you are able. Be smart about what you need by researching. All hospitals do not charge the same. Ask for a discount before your procedure not after! Be polite and firm.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Sales dropping. Istock especially.
« on: September 20, 2011, 13:10 »
I know Yuri to be a true professional, there is no need to point fingers or call names. This is a business people, I make decisions based on the facts I have in front of me.
iStock - Getty and all the others are a business too. They are not interested in what you earn or frankly what you do at this point. The economy is bad almost everywhere,
competition is strong and there are so many great images to choose from. I have to push myself to stay in the game like anyone else. I don't care who gets what, I know what
my needs are and what I need to do to meet them. Now if we spend more time shooting and creating then just maybe other doors will open as well.

In the future I see iStock as actually being the strongest. They are moving to a midstock level instead of a microstock one. They have more avenues to reach more buyers. Now I am on the video side and I can say it is doing well for me, I had a much better summer than expected. Yes I do this full-time but I also work on other projects to keep my skills varied and sharp. I have had numerous people ask me to teach them. I always say, go to iStock read the material, post images or clips, get accepted and then get back to me. Funny I never hear from them again. iStock is starting to really focus on content while the others still take about everything. Trust me I have both eyes open but my bet still rest on the iStock horse.

Actually the market for video is shrinking!

918
That is exactly what Stock is all about. I started with video in 2006 and am now full-time. The reasons are freedom lifestyle and less stress! My earnings grow every year but
not nearly as fast as in the beginning. If you treat this as a business it is a business. If I spend money it is on gear, travel and hiring models.

many problems on other sites so what makes iStock different?

:( I just have to vent here. I can't even login at iStock. My video files are constantly showing up as photo files, the site is a complete mess. How can a company this big mess up this much?
I thought once they redid the site it would be more stable. We have more problems now then we did before! I can only imagine if Amazon ran this way! I would like a stable site long before
we have new ideas to add to it! This is just plain crazy

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Predictions about iStockphoto!?
« on: September 12, 2010, 11:09 »
While many people are getting the shaft, my guess is iStock will do just fine. They are wedding out people and slowing down the the number of people that will apply. I for one will be happy to see iStock become a true midstock company. Now don't shoot me, I feel the bottom for non-exclusives should be 20%. I predict very few Exclusive artist leaving and a few non-exclusives will leave and I can't blame them or anyone else for that choice. Now if iStock takes this money and opens huge markets in Asia and India then we will be much stronger for the future. You need to do what is best for you business wise and leave your feelings at the door. It might be wise to remove your account but I really think you will only hurt yourselves. Just leave it there and focus your attention on other agencies. You can check iStock once a year and get some money. I have made good friends all over the stock world but am aware it is every man-woman for themselves. I hate it for so many good hard working people but I can't control it. If there is anyway I can help others please let me know.

Thanks for your input. I Shoot video for iStock video and am exclusive. I love pond5 but they need to up their quality some and offer different sizes for web use then they would be perfect! Your input is helpful to me as a shooter. Trust me I hate to blur but sometimes forced to do it.
