SnapVillage.com / I Like Snapvillage
« on: September 21, 2008, 00:18 »
 :D

I just wanted to share something I just noticed and find quite amusing.
.....drumroll.....

 ;D
Snapvillage adds their own keywords to your lame excuse of a list you supplied.

Here is an image of mine.

Snapvillage added the words "overworked, one man, one person, half length, half-length, in the park, laying down, crash, crashed, and crashing"  I believe I added the others that are listed.  I do find it a pain in the @$$ to upload to them five at a time, but their reviewers do a quick and decent job on their end.  Especially since they come up with more keywords for you.  Kudos to Snapvillage.

;D I had to say something about Snapvillage that was nice, because even if they don't make alot of money for me,  I have been able to make payout the last few months.  Thanks.

All you others let me know what you think of this.  Also I think it would be interesting if people posted the keywords Snapvillage added to your picture that you wouldn't have added yourself.

Off Topic / Crooked Bush (Attn: Leaf)
« on: September 03, 2008, 15:17 »
;D Hey everybody, do I have a question for you.  But first a little back knowledge...

I know Leaf grew up in Saskatchewan, Canada and there happens to be a little known place there called "The Crooked Bush", about half an hour from North Battleford.

This bush is more like a bunch of trees.  It is a small area of land where the trees grow sideways, then up, then down, then sideways and up again and down, etc.  Basically they are all crooked!  I was there last summer and thought it was pretty cool.  It is an area of land maybe 200 feet by 200 feet (just a guess), but outside of this area all the same trees grow normally.

Rumor has it this land has mystical powers or some other such tale.
So now for my questions...

1. Have you ever been there Leaf?
2. Does anyone have any "weird" phenomenons in their area that don't have an obvious explanation?

I do have pictures, but they are backed up on disc.  If anyone wants to see the bush I will dig them out.

General Stock Discussion / Age as a keyword?
« on: September 01, 2008, 21:47 »
I was reading the forum at Dreamstime and came across this one...
http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_10701

I was wondering what everyone does over here.  If you shoot a child, do you put their age as a keyword?  If you do, do you put "ten" or "10"?  And finally, do you think any agencies would reject a picture for this keyword(s) for incorrect or unneeded keywords?

Thanks for your thoughts.

General Stock Discussion / Shutterstock Hiring Question
« on: August 07, 2008, 11:18 »
Hi all,

I see Shutterstock is looking for an Image Reviewer (posted on the forum), but I was wondering if anyone here knows aproximately how much money you can make from doing this.

A little known secret is that I applied to be a keymaster at Dreamstime quite a while back and I found it difficult to make more than $5 or $6 per hour.  Needless to say I quit as there are many other ways to make as much if not more.  (McDonalds for one.)

I figure Image Reviewers must make quite a bit more, but don't know for sure.

Please if anyone knows or has a comment, give a shout!

General Stock Discussion / I'm a Douche Bag
« on: June 25, 2008, 15:06 »
Now that I have your attention I can let you know that I am in fact a "douche bag".  Well at least that's what someone thinks. ;D

I was searching google for my pics and I finally found one and was credited for it.

Here is the link and have a laugh at my expense.
http://www.thetruthaboutromance.com/101/whyguys.aspx

I do have to admit that it's not my best picture by any stretch of the imagination and thankfully it is me instead of my daughter or someone else.

Let me know what you think,  am I a douche bag for having sparkles? ;)

123RF / My take on 123rf
« on: April 21, 2008, 09:50 »
I know I am pretty new to this.  I'm the typical guy who loves to take pictures and have all his family say how good they are.  Over the course of a few months I have come to realize that they don't really know much about the technical aspects of photography.  They don't notice some of the harsh shadows or blown highlights.

As for 123rf, I have come to the conclusion that they must be cracking down on their acceptance criteria because I used to get EVERYTHING accepted, and I do mean everything. Some of my early stuff seems really horrible.

Anyways out of 156 photos this month I have 76 approved, 37 pending, and 43 rejected.  The rejection ratio is much higher than usual.

The recent rejections could be from taking pictures outside, instead of in my home studio where I have a little learned a little more control on taking pics.
I suppose everyone receives more rejections when leaving their comfort zone... but how else do you get better.

Do you receive more rejections when yuo change your shooting style?  What's your take on 123rf as far as recent rejections?

Photo Critique / I'm Colorblind and Need Help
« on: March 14, 2008, 21:57 »
Hi everybody, as I said before I am red green color blind or rather have a color deficiency with these colors.  I do know that there are many successful photographers who are colorblind and I have done pretty well with microstock so far.  My problem has been lately, that I am getting rejections for having my white balance off.  9/10 rejected at Shutterstock for this reason and my latest batch at Dreamstime were rejected for white balance too.

I did some research and have found some methods for fixing a color cast without "using" your eyes, but rather the numbers in photoshop's dropper tool.  I uploaded my original picture that was rejected at Dreamstime and then the one I tried fixing with this new method.  Please tell me if this is an improvement, or what.

Also if any of you are colorblind, please share any thoughts or ideas you may have.  Thank you very much.  Just so you know, I shoot RAW so I can change the white balance, but it only helps to change the white balance if you change it to the right one. ;)

Anyways, my pictures are on flickr, the files labeled with a "b" afterwards are the redone ones.  Hope it's not too confusing.  Thanks for your help. http://www.flickr.com/photos/22088204@N05/
