The glasses industry is one of the most unreal i actually know. Seriously 500$ for a piece of plastic and glass... who's also plastic actually lol. You can buy a pair for 20$ at the drug stores.

Also I can't believe that all those doctors who have achieved doctorate studies, who are supposed to make the science going further, were unable to make any improvement since a 100 years. What they was wearing in 1900... Glasses.

Most of optometrist are against laser correction. They know they will stop selling glasses. Glad we found a way to have them cheaper

I've thought about getting laser correction done.  I only know 1 person who got it done here in Winnipeg.  She had to be like 3 feet from the 42" tv to see it properly. :(  Besides me being a chicken, I have heard very few people that get it done actually have 100% improvement.  And if I still need even weak glasses after the treatment, it would be a waste.  The price of glasses doesn't really increase with the decrease of your vision.  I do wish there was a sure fire treatment though.  Glasses suck.  (and so do contacts, just in a different way)

Can u write BIGGER please. I cant see, cause I bought cheap glasses ;)  The chinese make everything cost peanuts. Imagine they starting a microstocksite to compete with SS or IS :-[

I remember when I was younger I bought a watch from a 25 cent machine.  It worked for 2 years before it got water damaged!  Cheapest watch I ever had, and it too was made in China.  I'm actually surprised there isn't a microstock agency based in China, but if there was to be in the future, that fact alone wouldn't worry me.   :)

I've been putting off buying new glasses for myself and my wife for quite a while now.  I really didn't want to pay $1000 for new glasses for both of us.  ($500 each aprox.)  Anyways, some co-workers were talking about where they got theirs and I became interested.  They told me that they buy theirs from http://zennioptical.com  I did a bunch of review checking and didn't find many bad reviews so I figured I would give them a try since I had the glasses prescription.

Well, after some measuring, $150 after shipping and currency conversion, and 2 weeks later, I got all 3 pairs of glasses in the mail.  All I can say is I am pleasantly surprised at my initial thoughts and we have no complaints.

I thought I would share this tip to save money on glasses especially since soo many people are having financial troubles.  Anyways if you order some and you don't like them...... don't blame me. ;D

p.s. if you have any money saving tips or great deals (not related to photography), post them here.  I am sure many would find it interesting.

Thanks, Rick  ;)

THAT SUCKS!  I know here in Canada if I order something from the states, there are no taxes.  If I order from a different province, I have to pay GST (federal tax).  Only if I order something in Manitoba do I pay GST + PST.  I hope it doesn't change here any time soon.

So, for those who don't know, if you press ctrl+click it will open in a new tab while keeping the focus on the current tab.  This way you can click on 10 links you want to read from the current page and THEN go and read those pages (which will already be loaded)

OR

Center-Button Click if your using a PC

ohhh how fancy :) ...  that sounds better than ctrl-click as well.

HAHA, I just realized now that I broke my old habit of right clicking to open a new tab and now use the center mouse button.  Saves a bit of time! Thanks  ;D

Is the virus still there?  I don't want to go to the website until it's safe.  I have protection, but don't want to take a chance.

Hopefully it's not a serious virus and nobody's computer is infected here. :)

Hey cool, I didn't know that!  I usually right click and "Open Link In New Tab".  I will try the center button click and try to break my old habit.

*edited because I didn't quote correctly and it was bugging me.  lol

I haven't noticed anything slow.  From the "Home" page I just open new tabs for each topic I wish to read. No problems!  :)

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia upload

I haven't had any problems using ftp with Fotolia.  I use filezilla.

;D Thanks zymmetrical, but madelaide is right.  I tried your way and I just get my images located on the Shutterstock servers, not the ones that are being used somewhere on the internet.  I know someone must be using my images online, but not even Tineye can find them.  Hmmmmm, I don't know.  Not a big deal though, I was just wondering.  The important thing is that sales ARE being made, not whether or not I can find them in use.  That is just a bonus!   :)

37
I have been wondering this for a long time and still can't figure this out.

In the google search I can find my images using search terms such as "dragon_fang fotolia" or "richard nelson dreamtime" and on those sites I have sold far less than on shutterstock.

When I type "dragon_fang or dragonfan or dragon fang or richard nelson + shutterstock" I don't get 1 result with a picture of mine in use.  In theory I should have tons!  What gives?  Do you know?  Is it just me?   ???

Please let me know if you have useful search terms for finding your work with shutterstock.  Myabe you use a different search engine.

Thank you,

Rick  ;D

The author didn't ask for a critique and we generally try not to say anything bad about someone else's work without them asking for it.

If your post is about Fotolia picking an image you believe to be sub-par, I have found all the micros do it at one point or another.  I just wish it was mine, maybe I might see an increase in sales.  :)

« on: May 22, 2009, 07:18 »
As I was driving home from work yesterday, I thought it would be interesting to see who has the longest total commute to/from work.  This means you must add up the time it takes to get to work and again the time to get home.

My commute time is 80 minutes everyday, going 100 kilometers per hour driving 95% on the highway.

Background info
I discovered microstock when I was browsing the internet looking for ways to make money online. Nothing seemed like it would work.  Finally I decided to be more specific and look for ways to make money with something I enjoyed doing anyways (photography).  After a quick search, I came across this website http://www.photosecrets.com/sell.microstock.html and uploaded about 10 snapshots (pictures not geared toward microstock) to places like 123rf, bigstockphoto and dreamstime.

I kept checking periodically and after about a month, I seen a sale.  I thought to myself, "Hey, maybe this isn't a scam."  I uploaded a few more and seen more sales.  It was soon realized that perhaps if I upload even more I can make a substantial amount of money.  Well the rest is history, even though I might not be a top player, I can happily say that Microstock easily pays for my fun hobby.

*Interesting Fact*
It took me 4 tries to get accepted @ Shutterstock
1 try @ Istock
5 tries @ Stockxpert

I have no problems.

Here is what I have in filezilla:

host: content.cutcaster.com
port: *blank
servertype: ftp
logontype: normal
user: anonymous
password: *blank

*Make sure to log into cutcaster.com with your username and password and click the upload button at the top right. When you scroll down a bit it will show your FTP folder ID #.  Put that number in filezilla in the advanced section of site manager under "default remote directory"
Hope it works! ;)

Cutcaster / Re: Cutcaster Submit Interface
« on: May 15, 2009, 23:45 »
Hi John,

As far as site go, I believe Cutcaster is one of the easiest and quickest to upload to.  The only thing I find a little slow is when I have some images with models and other without.  Then instead of clicking the select all button I have to scroll down and manually select the photos with the models and add the release.  Not a big issue for me though, but I must admit that if you had 20 or so thumbnails you could quickly add a release to it may be better, kind of like Canstock now.

But don't take it as criticism, I like it the way it is and for me much better than some of the other sites. ;)

Well enjoy the party without me.  They don't like my stuff enough I guess.  For those of you that haven't seen the "loser" email here it is.

   Dear SnapVillage Contributor,

As you may know, we are currently in the process of rolling SnapVillage into a new microstock offering, Veer Marketplace. As part of this transition, we have been reviewing all submissions on SnapVillage.

Unfortunately, based on the images you currently have on SnapVillage, we have decided not to transfer your work to Veer Marketplace. It could be that your images just need some polishing, that you chose subjects that aren't a great fit for Veer Marketplace, or that you hadnt submitted very many images.

But we do want to see your new work, so go ahead and put together a selection of your newest and best photos. We invite you to create an account at Veer Marketplace after June 8, 2009 and submit them for review. You might find it useful to browse through the images already for sale at Veer Marketplace and try to match or beat the quality. Weve posted Veer Marketplace submission guidelines to help you as well.

Your work will remain on SnapVillage and you will continue to receive any royalties owed to you once a month until we close the site later this year.

We hope to see you submit your new work to Veer Marketplace.

Thanks from the Veer Marketplace Team

*I guess spending all that time uploading 5 pictures at a time was a waste of time.  Maybe I got this because of my weaker material from when I first started, but then again, maybe not.  Oh Well.  It is what it is. ;)
