Did anyone notice the cat (a featured image) has a model release attached?  I wonder why iofoto attached one.  Maybe he/she is a celebrity cat and I just don't recognize him.  Here is the link http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-2832570.html

I hereby rate my topic as 3/10 on the interesting index, what says you? lol

Nice Image! ;D  If I could do vectors and draw dragons like you, my portfolio woud be full of them!  Imagine, Dragon Suffering From Sore Stomach, Business Dragon Got A Raise, Dragon Holding Up Stock Market Crash.

I wonder if typical ideas about business would sell if a dragon was involved.  I would think so, because everything is cooler when you throw in a dragon. :)

That's why I have soo many friends. ;)

I got the same message.  As soon as I seen it, I came here to trusty MSG to make sure it wasn't just me. :)

Yeah, this has been around ;)  See if you can find the bodyless ghost.  Just follow the walkway going from the giant white photographers stand in the middle of the picture and you will see it.   Very spooky!  This 1474 MP camera even captures ghosts! ;)

I had to turn some of those graph options off. :-\
Too much information!
Yeah much better with some of them off.  I didn't see that option the first time I looked.

Dreamstime updated their statistics page, so check it out.

I'm not sure if I like it though.  I typically don't like charts with lots of colors to figure out which is for what.  Let me know what you think.

Wow my email outbox is routed to MSG automatically now.   :-\

This I apologize for.  It was a private email and I'm sorry if I stepped out of bounds.  There may be no excuses for my unprofessionalism.

I would like to continue working with zymmetrical, as I know you are in tune with your contributors.  I will be making sure I am more selective with what I upload.

My apologies,

Richard

I just got this email from Keith at zymmetrical.com

Hi Richard,

You have an abnormally high rejection rate, and you seem to just have us on auto-FTP, sending more of the same each month -  our reviewers pay careful attention to each review, and we expect the participating artists to heed those comments.

I am sorry if this may come off harsh but it costs large sums of money to be rejecting your files when that money could be put into growing the business. We have no upload limits, very high commissions, and generally relaxed terms - we rely on the artists to play fair and participate in good faith: just uploading whatever thousands of shots you've made each month is unsustainable. The 150 or so you have approved are marketable, but since rejection rates affect search positioning to a degree, you are shooting yourself in the foot by just carpet-bombing the uploads. We are completely open to help you not have to spend too much time on deciding what to upload, you just have to ask - in the meantime, it cannot continue with this rejection ratio.

Best Regards,
Keith Tuomi

It is true, it must cost a lot of money to reject my pics.  So far I have 1593 pictures rejected there and only 154 approved.

I have a 78.5% acceptance rate at dreamstime which is climbing as it was the first months that brought the average down.  The last 5 months there I have maintained more than 90% acceptance average with about 200 pictures added every month.

Istock, Shutterstock, Fotolia are all very similar.  I haven't seen a rejection from Stockxpert in ages.

Heck, even Crestock accepts more of my images.

All is not lost though,  the most popular rejection reason given is composition and lighting.  Although I'm not too sure how an isolated object on white gets a composition rejection.  Anyways, if all the sites had similar complaints about me, then perhaps I would pay more heed to this email.

I know I am not a top seller, but I do try and learn.  But with rejections like this and from only the one website, it makes it difficult.

Thanks for listening, and any comments or criticism about my post or portfolio not a problem.

p.s.  Keith will not have to worry about paying people to reject my pictures for a while.  I won't say that I am done with them, but surely I will take a break and ask him to delete all my photos in the pending queue, to be sure he gets only my best and newest.

General Photography Discussion / Re: 70-300mm VR lens for Nikon
« on: February 26, 2009, 10:15 »
Another lens I was thinking about was the 18-200mm.  It's a little more, and I have heard mixed reviews.

What do you guys think.  Which one is sharper and which do you recommend for microstock.  From what I have heard the 18-200 is good for a walk around lens, but too many problems for consistent results for microstock.

Thanks again!

Thanks everyone,  I'm still not sure.  If I won't be satisfied with the zoom from 200-300mm then I will probably rarely zoom in that far, and if that's the case, I might as well get a higher quality zoom that goes up to 200mm.  Anyways I will be sure to do more research.

« on: February 25, 2009, 16:47 »
Hi I was wondering if anyone has this lens and what they think of it for microstock.

I have the Tamron 70-300 and find it soft.

I would like a better lens than the Tamron for wildlife, but not sure how soft the Nikon gets at 300mm.  If you have something better you would recommend that is under $800 than please fire it off.

The problem with most of the sites reviewing lenses is it is hard to find a 100% crop.

Software - General / Re: How to schedule uploads with filezilla
« on: February 25, 2009, 16:41 »
I know I have posted this before, but can't find my link to it. so here it goes again.
I will use simple steps so that anyone can follow.

1. Open Filezilla
2. *Click* File - Site Manager or CTRL + S
3. *Click* New Site and type in the name you want to give ie:"Dreamstime"
4.  Fill in the relevant ftp data from the site in the correct fields
5. Repeat for all the sites you are with
6. Now connect to the first one at the top
7. Select the pictures you want to upload
8. Drag to the open box at the bottom
9. Repeat steps 6-9
10. *Right click* and Process Queue

Filezilla will automatically connect to the next one in the list at the bottom and upload all files.

Please let me know if this is clear or not.

dragonfang, i can't help to laugh at your title... FIRST TIME IS ticks U off?
for many here, there would not be just a first time... more like almost evry other day  ;D

Hey, what can I say.  I have a lot of patience for the most part.  I think I was just having a bad day, cause I'm well over it now.  I have fixed the model release to their liking (or at least I hope so), and I will resubmit the ones I can. :)

Dreamstime.com / Re: Am I Starting To Keyword Spam?
« on: February 19, 2009, 17:37 »
Some banknotes sticking out of the top might have helped clarify the concept. However, if this was the only keyword that was 'ambiguous' then it is unfortunate that the image was rejected.

I thought about having some money sticking out the top,  but correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe microstock sites won't accept images with Canadian money.  It seems USA money is ok if only parts are shown.  Maybe I will have to trade some just so I can redo this idea. lol :D

Photos of money (USD or Canadian) should be fine as long as they are used as part of a composition not just flat scans.

If that is true, I wonder which one would sell more?  I would probably still be better off using American money.... but then again there are a lot less photos with Canadian moola! ;)

Yeah, I was trying a concept like, Businessman is robbing a company behind it's back, kind of idea (hence the suit).  In the world of Microstock, no comment is being critical.  It's just life.  Over the course of time I have heard it all, and I have tried and continue trying to improve.  :)

« on: February 18, 2009, 12:03 »
I got a rejection for this image, and the only reason given was that the term "pickpocket" was not relevant.

I don't really care that it got rejected there, but was just wondering if "pickpocket" really was just spam or what.

I should also note that this is the very first "keyword rejection" I have received from any stock agency.

« on: February 14, 2009, 18:04 »
Well usually I am pretty patient and don't care when files get rejected for whatever reason.  I have learned that it's no big deal.  But today, after all that hard work.... Istock rejected 11 of my 15 photos for what reason?  I had included the PO box as part of the models address.  All the other info is their including their home address, but they still rejected it.  (Even though they have accepted these model releases for months already!)

I was going to email scout.... but then I get an error telling me one of the fields isn't filled in even though all of them are.  Frustrating it is, and I will forget about it.

Do you guys think I really need to get a model release filled out again without a PO Box as part of the address?  That's ridiculous!   >:(

(Maybe I'm just whining..... take it with a grain of salt.)
