Started in November of 2004 with DT. I started before that on SXC, but free doesn't count, does it! I found out about microstock from SXC forum. My oldest photo for sale is below with a whopping 1 download to date!

http://www.zarias.com/?p=71    That is the same tutorial we used to set up our studio and works well because we have a very small space.  Good luck to you.

Istock requires a model release and says it is ok to use because it is of me
Stockexpert does not

That seems to be correct.

Bigstock says since it is of me and is used as just a prop no model release is required.
Istock and stockxpert have not gotten back to me yet.

So far this is what I have received:

fotolia the reviewers will let you know once it is uploaded whether it is needed or not
shutterstock it is not needed
dreamstime you do need a model release

I have sent the emails and am awaiting the replies. Will let you know.

I asked this same question a bit ago and got a couple of different answers. I had a shoot where my model was dressed as a doctor and used my X-ray as a prop. Some people said that you don't need a model release and others said you do. I am going to email all the sites I upload to and ask what needs to be done. I am assuming I will need a model release, but we will see...

I love shooting stock.

It is how I got started in photography. I'm a web developer full-time and I came across SXC and started using images from there. My in-laws chipped in with my parents and got me a camera for my birthday one year and I decided to try my hand at giving back.

Watching the downloads climb (even if I was giving photos away for free) was very gratifying. As stated before, it's nice to know that someone was getting some use from photos that I created.

Then I noticed people in the forum talking about how they were getting paid doing this. That was it for me! I've never looked back and now have a studio in my home just for stock. Click here for some recent examples: I love what I do. I don't know if it will ever be my primary source of income, because I love my day job as well. However, as long as I'm able, I'll photograph stock!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Model release for X-rays?

So it sounds like I should upload a model release just in case, but will a standard release work I wonder? Or maybe I should email the stock sites themselves and ask? It is just a pain when I belong to quite a few... :-\

General Stock Discussion / Model release for X-rays?
« on: February 10, 2009, 16:51 »
Recently I did a shoot and used my own x-ray as part of some props. Does anyone know if I need to upload a model release for my x-ray? Thanks in advance!

I'm a web developer first and stock photographer part-time (which works out very well together!), so I have an idea for you. Contact some web developers in your area and offer to shoot for some of their restaurant clients (existing or upcoming) for them at little or no cost to them. I know that my restaurant clients as a web developer all love getting the free photo shoot and using photos of their own food on their website and it has enlarged my food portfolio greatly. In addition, I also end up with great looking backdrops for the plates, rather than just isolated on white. I also bring a light tent to shoot the same plates isolated, so I get at least 2 photos per plate! Good luck!
