Adobe Stock / adobe stock collections
« on: March 13, 2020, 13:18 »
How do you add a picture to collection on Adobe Stock? Or create a new collection.

I believe it used by a "+" icon next to the image in a contributor portfolio. Now, I see only two options: delete and make profile picture ...

Am I missing something?

My SS sales (mostly images) are going down since 2013.
Recent trends vs AS:
SS : AS
  1 : 0.89 2017
  1 : 1.02 2018
  1 : 1.31 2019

SS 2016 vs 2015:

portfolio +25%
revenue  -7%
downloads -10%

To interpret this rating it would be useful to know how many (just a rough number) users are taken into account. 10, 100, 1000? It's not very meaningful stats if it is calculated from 10 or 20 contributors.

GLStock / Re: GL News
« on: August 13, 2016, 14:00 »
GL is a very, very low earner. I will keep uploading my pictures there as long as the process is simple. Certainly, I cannot afford to spend my time to tune prices of individual images in the GL portfolio or upload selected images only. Simply, I am uploading all images with the same setup or nothing at all.

I agree with Sean about pricing and image size. Almost all of my current sales are at the lowest price and size.

~30% up in income
~20% down in RPI (return per image)

Dreamstime.com / Re: Dreamstime dropped to Middle tier??
« on: October 08, 2015, 16:22 »
I was not following that number (database exposure) since I am not sure what that means. My current number is 0.04%. Someone who's currently a featured photographer on DT with about 2,800 files has a database exposure of 0.09% - so this can't be just number of files relative to the whole database. Do you know how this number is calculated? or is it just arbitrary set?

Elena, your number is 0.4%, not 0.04%
:-)
database exposure = portfolio size / total number of files on DT  ?

My quarterly revenue from DT. Growing or falling?
Last year or so definitely downhill. Maybe, just another cycle ...
Uploaded files 7000+, total sales 24000+

I am trying to ignore all negative features of microstock agencies. Otherwise, it's really better to quit.

Fotolia ..
Money wise I like FT. It was really under performing for me for years, then, suddenly, during 2014 year, my monthly earnings increased 4 times without any obvious reasons. It is still growing and, now, FT is my #2 after SS.
OK, I have much more than 1000 pictures in my portfolio and my FT ranking is well below 1000 ...

What really upsets me in this business is if I see a nice full page picture in a book and it's credited to Shutterstock without my name. I was just looking for inspiration in a bookstore yesterday.

It depends on the size and performance of your portfolio.
With a large portfolio 1% of income is becoming quite significant.
If you are making a couple hundreds $ per month uploading to low earners is not worth it.

Photography Equipment / Re: Sony A6000

I am using Sony A6000 in addition to my Canon 5DIII, mostly for outdoor shooting where weight is an issue like paddling or hiking, also, experimenting with drone flying.

I guess it would be in a very bad taste to say something positive about BS, or even worse to show some stats ...

DepositPhotos / Re: Deposit Photos - worth it?
« on: March 07, 2015, 19:18 »
No, no and no!, this is the worst agency , 90% is subs for 0.30$,10% is credit sales for 0.44$, never and never  enterprise license, credit sale are rare like panda.
...

Well, I am not saying that I like DP. However, I don't like misinformation.

Here is RPD (return per download) from my portfolio: 0.62 at DP which is higher than FT (0.49), and almost the same as SS. For reference: 123RF 0.94, DT 1.44. This is just microstock ...

Otherwise, I agree. Do not upload to DP! Or even better. Do not upload to any other stock agency. We don't need more competition.

My understanding is that FAA is trying to regulate commercial use of drones.
It means that I will be still able to fly drones (responsibly or not) for fun and shoot pictures,
but not sell them ...

Is flying with weapons and bombs considered a commercial activity? No license required here ...

I am not quite sure that I understand tax implications for US contribution.
Assuming that Envato sends to IRS information on total sales, I see 3 scenarios:

1. I am claiming "author fee" as expenses, but Envato total sales as income pushes my taxable income up, potentially increasing my taxes and practically lowers my commission from Envato.

2. I am claiming net payment from Envato as my income. It puts me into potential troubles with IRS. Unless, I am reporting more income than it is covered by all these forms sent to IRS. It may be not a case any more if IS starts reporting to IRS.

3. I hate Envato and delete my account, but I am getting 2% of my total microstock income from them which is significant number in my budget.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Complaints, why all these compaints?

7 years in microstock
I still enjoy doing it, having fun, learning new things,
and making a full time living.
Positive enough?

So, is anybody here actually using drones to shoot pictures or video for stock?
I believe it qualifies as a commercial activity even if the subject is just a landscape in a remote location.

Concerning invasion of privacy, I would say that Google street and satellite pictures are giving more details about my neighborhood that pictures I can shoot flying over my backyard.

How can you trace sales from partner programs at DT?

I would like to know how much that "invitation" to the test will cost me.

Dreamstime.com / Re: How to improve sales at Dreamstime?
« on: February 23, 2014, 12:50 »
I really don't understand what's going on at DT this month. I had a good January however both my sales and earnings for February are projected to be almost 50% down on January. They have literally halved from one month to the next.
...

Same here. Good sales for the last 4-5 months, BME almost every month.
And, February sales will be ~50% of January.

6 years in microstock producing 1000-1200 pictures/year during recent years ...

I've got 35% increase of microstock income in 2012, and about 15% in 2013.

2014?
I would be happy if I can keep the same level of income from microstock and devote more time for other projects.

BTW. I am not checking my monthly sales stats any more. I am just counting actual payments and looking at this from the annual perspective. In early years, I used to have a regular growth of sales every month. Nowadays, it's more complicated with a lot of month to month variability and different payment schedules.
