Off Topic / Re: The Biden recession is coming. Brace yourselves.« on: July 08, 2022, 15:11 »
It strikes me odd that people blame politicians for whatever goes on in the FREE MARKET economy.
Yeah, people are mad because of the very high inflation and yes the fed tries to tamper that down with higher interest rates. Republicans of course blame the Democrats for the only reason that Democrats are in power. Now in November it really bothers me that Republicans will take over the Congress and exercise power. Biden is not a particularly strong President, he has to be pushed into doing things, so Republicans will run all over him. Trouble for the Republicans, who have never cured anything, they will find themselves dealing with high inflation, the Ukraine war and a shrinking economy and with attacking human rights and liberty. Two years later Americans will be seriously mad at the Republicans and vote in Democrats. So it goes it's an endless and silly blame game. Neither party has much control over anything, so they blame the party in charge. Me? Because of the 6 January insurrection, I consider Republicans to be traitors. Any American that supports a guy that attacks and denigrates American veterans, our fallen soldiers and disabled warriors, along with the handicapped is not an American at all and is actually a piece of rotten rat feces. But that's just me. 28

General Stock Discussion / Re: Microstock is a dead end because of you« on: July 04, 2022, 14:52 »I think the biggest reason for the drop in agency sales is simple: there is a worldwide glut of free digital imagery on just about every subject you can imagine.Right on. If folks want to place a blame, blame digital technology. Improvise, adapt and overcome is the key to survival, even in the digital world. 30
General Stock Discussion / Re: Adobe rejections« on: July 04, 2022, 06:16 »
I have 90% acceptance from all agencies except Wirestock.
For some reason they ding me for composition. Go figure. No, I don't think Adobe unreasonably tough. They accept my images I make with the Iphone 11 Pro Max so no complaints. You have to eyeball the images you want to upload at 100% and then judge accordingly. Focus is tough. No app does a decent job fixing blurry pictures. I don't care what Topaz claims. They don't work. Noise is an easy fix and Topaz does a superb job. 31
General Stock Discussion / Re: Microstock is a dead end because of you« on: July 04, 2022, 06:04 »When i started doing stock photography 11 years ago i took a year before that and studied, learned and practice so i would get good results. There was not so much info online and i am a book guy anyway so i started with some good nice lecture. After a while of uploading and reaching 10000 online files the cash flowing from stock agencies was really good 2-3 salaries in a really good country. Somewhere around the road i started checking some stock forums and different websites where people were actually telling newbies what to do and how to jump over some extremely important steps that took me a lot longer to learn by my own. Everybody started doing stock photo, agencies were flooded and now with over 20k photos online the monthly paycheck cant even cover a low rent. This is the fault of everybody not caring for his business and teaching others = competition tips and tricks. In no business you tell others secrets. Or you encourage them to do something what you do. This friendliness act got us where we are today as stock photography and thats a hole with no future. Hope everybody learned something from this for the next business they may have I would be very interested to have a look at your port. 32

To cut a long story short, I think the credit goes to smartphones.
These gadgets are seriously good at producing a decent image as we all know. I started out saying the blame goes to smartphones, but that is not accurate. Smartphones are just another extension in our digital world. I use mine and upload with it. I have about the same acceptance rate (95%) as I do with my Z9 and Z7 II. 34
General Stock Discussion / Re: Why you should never ever work with Wirestock« on: July 01, 2022, 12:08 »
Wirestock, has undergone some serious changes in the past year.
As far as I'm concerned they are about as good and as bad as the rest of the agencies. I use Wirestock but don't allow them to upload to Shutterstock, Dreamstime and Adobe. I do those myself. Since I put the title and keywords into the meta data, this is a very simple operation for me. Basically all I have to do is upload. I let Wirestock handle the rest, which means I don't get paid a whole lot but let no dime go unearned. They now also act as a normal photo agency, but I think this will take some time to show results. Wirestock is also extremely slow in reviews. For me this is only a slight irritation since I upload to the big sellers myself. Since I already took and edited the picture, added title and keywording I see no reason not to upload to Wirestock. 35
General Stock Discussion / Re: Which agency treats contributors the best?« on: June 24, 2022, 09:39 »
I think Shutterstock treats contributors best.
Yes, even with the 10 cent subs, they sell more which makes up for the loss. Fast reviews - tough too so you are encouraged to submit better photos Great support - I don't know of any other agency that has equal or finer contributor stats. They just rock. Shutterstock sells more of my images than the rest of the agencies combined! I would rate Wirestock the worst. Sorry, sorry review work. They take days and days to get around to looking at your submissions and now they want to charge $12.99 for faster reviews. To think people call Shutterstock greedy When I submit to Wirestock I retain control of Shutterstock, Dreams Time and Adobe stock. I get more money that way. The rest I let Wirestock handle, so I don't care about their sorry review time. 36

General - Top Sites / Re: I'm the guy with the grey beard« on: June 09, 2022, 04:35 »Now, Instead of pulling your punches because you "sell", it would be more helpful to know HOW MANY pieces you sell per DAY and how much money you make PER MONTH. This is useful. Looking at your photos can help us a lot. Joe didn't give any real numbers - at least not here on the forum. But here in this post https://www.microstockgroup.com/general-stock-discussion/stock-photography-less-interesting-for-me/msg576132/#msg576132 he wrote a few facts, which - I have to assume - refer to shutterstock: Here's the thing for me, Stock Performer tells me I'm in the top 80% on downloads. But I'm only in the top 30% on income and now I'm in the top 60% on uploads. The problem is obvious. I need to create more images people want to pay for. [/quote] I don't know why people waste so much time obsessing about me. They (you) would be a lot better off obsessing about your own port. I don't see anyone posting their income, so why should I? I don't see people posting the link to their port, so I stopped doing it. Is it me that's at fault here because I'm not nosy about anybody else's port and business? Move on! 39

General Stock Discussion / Re: Stock photography less interesting for me« on: May 31, 2022, 21:11 »
Non rewarding for you perhaps. Not for me. I enjoy the picture taking, editing, keywording and so on. It's all a challenge for me. If you no longer enjoy the game, why are you still on stock photography forums? Forums are the one activity I no longer enjoy, so I do very little of it. There is way too much negativity on all of these stock forums, so I find it more comfortable not to read much of their content. I no longer give out advice because too many people use that as an excuse to take potshots at me. There is no money in it for me, so I find little reason to be on these forums. 41
General Stock Discussion / Re: Stock photography less interesting for me« on: May 31, 2022, 21:04 »No I won't upload, upload, upload to SS because I don't like to be paid dimes, dimes, dimes when my time, effort, equipment, models and ... worth tens of thousands of dollars, dollars, dollars. I take a different notion regarding Shutterstock. They are still my main money maker. What I upload and how much I upload does not matter to SS. They could not care less. My port has just a microscopic impact on their numbers. So I can do as I please. I don't mind keywording and titles. It's just part of the game. Some sites offer to do these for you but at a steep price. I pass and do my work myself. You have to do as you see best, just like everyone else and myself included. Good luck 42

Hi Annie! Thanks for that pleasant and nice trip down memory lane. I'm getting ready to go on yet another trip. This one to visit my beautiful daughter-in-law, my son and his three super kids living in Colorado Springs. I really enjoy these visits and try to go as often as I can. When I get back I'm going to visit my granddaughter, her husband, and two great grandsons in Oklahoma City. I love the greats! I plan to do a lot of traveling this year and to re-boot my portfolio. I totally changed my equipment. All full frame now. I got the Z9, it does 120 fps. Thinking of the number of likes I can post just makes me swoon. I also have the Z7 II which I love because it's small and light. Don't want to talk too much about my new toys. I'm sure to get comments about them anyway. I hope you are doing well. 44

I'm no longer sharing anything about my port. It really irritates people when I talk about the
10,000 images I uploaded in 12 months, just like I said I would when I first started as a complete newbie. Nothing angers people more than the success of others. So, I won't post about the port that is now 11,193 images strong. I've decided to kick my port into gear again, so I don't have time for forums anyway. You can upload, upload, upload or you can post on the forums but it's very difficult to do both. I'm going with the option that pays me. Take care now and good luck 46

Yes, I have some images that sell well.
Yes, I have too many images in my port that don't sell at all. NO, I'm not satisfied with how my sales are going. Sorry, I don't see a contradiction. I don't get much satisfaction arguing with the nitpickers and the hatemongers. Those that are interested in increasing their sales, keep at it! Don't give up and don't spend much time in the forums. You can't take pictures, keyword and title them and upload them if you are on the forum every day. It's one or the other. You don't see the really successful, big sellers on the forums. They are too busy doing stock. I'm not all that successful yet, but I don't have time for silly word games either. One thing I want to clear up. On my original post I stated that I got rid of all of my DSLR equipment. Mostly true, but I don't want to give the impression you have to go full frame mirrorless to get sales. You can build a perfectly fine port with just a fairly new, decent smart phone. 47

But I remember a posting in another forum/blog not so long ago that it's not going well for you at all. With your own words, you were wining and crying there Maybe you can show how not uploading at all really helps your sales. I'm sure everyone would love to see that. Sales are not going to my satisfaction. THEY NEVER WILL. 48

Most, not all people on the old SS forum as well as here are just habitual cry babies and bitchers with nothing to offer.
I'm not on forums much anymore because they are for the most part useless. You don't learn anything from people who cry their heart out. I'm not very sociable, I'm not good at small talk so I'm not on forums much anymore. Yeah, that's me in the long gray beard. Yes, I take selfies. Yes, they sell. All the time. I've not done any for several months because after I hit 10,000 uploads in one year I decided to take a break. I've had conversations with some really big sellers and learned quite a bit. I'm now back to uploading, uploading, uploading. Not as hard and furious as I did in that first year but I'm working at it. I now look really hard at what sells and what does not sell. Not surprisingly, I don't do the stuff that does not sell. Knowledge was the main advantage I gained with that magic 10,000 port. It's not bragging, I did it! I know what does not sell. I don't know what and how the big sellers are made of. I'm working on that. I've had some really high paying editorial sellers that left me shaking my head. I'm not after those. What I'm after is subjects and images that sell really well regularly. I uploaded about 2100 selfies to see if they made money. They do. I'm not happy about how much they bring in but they sell. I took the off time to look at what sells and what does not. From my images. I still try new stuff, new subjects and so on. I'm in a race. A race against myself making money. Not in the number of uploads. So starting this month I'm back to uploading. A LOT! With a difference. I understand the argument against images that look alike. I try to avoid them because they are a waste of my time and a waste of the agencies time. I also stopped hating the evaluators and just embrace what I learn from the rejects. A couple of months ago I tossed, sold actually all of my DLSR, crop sensor stuff. The cameras and the lenses. I'm all in with the new Nikon Z cameras. They work great! I get a lot fewer rejects for focus and hardly ever any for too much like other photos I have submitted. I'm doing quite a few videos. That was the reason I got rid of my DSLRs. I wanted to do videos. It's late in the game for videos because everybody with a smart phone submits them. But they do bring in money and with the new software they are easy to do. If you do videos use a tripod. Even with the new magical, superb, much hyped Z9 you need to shoot with a tripod. I keep 3 or 5 of them in my car at all times. I'm getting ready to toss the monopods and other gimmicks that don't work. It's impossible to beat a tripod. So that's it. Now you know all about me and are up to date. I do stock for money. I try to make as much money as possible from each submission. I wish I had the magic formula for the big bucks but I don't I'm still struggling with that. Good luck and keep uploading, uploading, uploading. https://www.shutterstock.com/g/Grossinger 49
General Stock Discussion / Re: Stock photography less interesting for me« on: May 01, 2022, 07:54 »
To me it's a challenge. All the whining about 10 cent sales is a waste of time.
Complaining about rejections is a waste of time. In short, complaining is a waste of time. The challenge for me is to overcome. Marines are taught to improvise, adapt, and overcome all obstacles. I think that's a good attitude. I don't care to read about the whines. All forums are full of them. I want to read about success stories not bs My income kept going up after the dime hair cut. Then I hit a plateau. I stopped uploading because I hit a block. Now I'm back to taking pictures and uploading. It's fun! I enjoy the challenge. Here's the thing for me, Stock Performer tells me I'm in the top 80% on downloads. But I'm only in the top 30% on income and now I'm in the top 60% on uploads. The problem is obvious. I need to create more images people want to pay for. So that's what I'm working on now. Yes, upload, upload, upload. Dimes add up. On Shutterstock I don't upload on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Like everyone else I'm tired of the goofy judges that reject everything. So I don't bother with that. On comparing agencies. Yes, Adobe, Dreamstime, 123RF and so on pay more for pictures but in the final analysis Shutterstock pays more at the end of the month because they sell a hell of a lot more. Wirestock started out good but now has gone off the rails. Adobe pays me more for the thousand or so images I have with them. Yeah, even Dreamstime gives me greater earnings than Wirestock. Anyway, that's how it works for me. How other people work is their business.. I'm not on forums much anymore because it's a waste of time reading all the whining. I do a lot of research and try to keep my eye on the ball. What I don't know is what pictures bring in the big bucks. I've not discovered that secret yet. So that's the challenge for me. People are free to cut off their noses to spite their face but Shutterstock rules. If you can get on with Stocksy because they pay well and work with photographers. Good luck and upload, upload, upload. 50

This may be an ancient thread but the numbers never change.
For me September is by far the the best selling month. May is my worst month. Shutterstock is my best selling, best money making agency. |
