I was curious and I ran a few pages from my best selling agency through this tool.  The results were "Found 208 urls from where 196 unique" on one of my best sellers.

I tried a few other pages, some had a little more some a little less, but I know this particular agency is fantastic at SEO and gets a lot of their buyers from Google, so I'm not sure how much that number actually affects things but I'm also no SEO expert. :)

Tina, I sent you a fix via email (2.0.1) that I am 99% sure clears up the issue.  I have two others testing now, once they give me the all clear I'll be sending it out to everyone else.  Thank you!

Edit: you are all set as far as I can see, I logged in and made the change for you so your admin bar should show up!  I'll add a tutorial on that in case anyone else would like to change it.

Hello all, I sent out a new version of CleanTheme last night but it appears there was an error that wasn't appearing on my test environment or demo site. (The joys of coding!) If you got that email please disregard and keep Cleantheme 1.0 until I send out the new update (hopefully tonight)  Very sorry for any inconvenience, if you had already upgraded and need help please feel free to email me amanda [at] creativembers [dot] com.

Update: Looking into Tina's issue I can see there may be a bug with one of the newer files and the log-in/log out function.  If you are 1.0 you can stay there for now while I update one more file and re-send 2.0.  Sorry for any inconvenience!

Hi Tina,

Clean theme hides the admin bar so that customers don't see the Wordpress elements of your site when they are logged in.  I can help you take this function out if you'd rather have the admin bar/dashboard link showing.

Can you tell me what happens when you log out?  I'm not having that issue on the demo site so I'm not sure what could be causing that for you.  I have emailed you version 1.0 to test per your request.

I'm actually just finishing the last change on version 2.0 to be released tomorrow. Cathy, I'll email it to you test out.  I have fixed this page specifically.

Edit: Emailed it out to you Cathy, let me know if you have any issues.  I'll be sending out the update tonight  to everyone who purchased so far, and I have a change log and updated demo as well to post in the morning.

The first thing I would check is if the file actually exists at wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/image-processor/symbiostock-watermark.png ( it would be really strange if it didn't, just making sure!)

Second, I would try uploading your own watermark or even just a placeholder to test a few uploads and see if that works.

Just out of curiosity, was the first image you uploaded smaller than the ones that didn't work?

83
If you go into your Symbiostock > Settings tab, what does the url say for your watermark image?  Also can you tell us how you have your site set up (is it in the root or in a directory,) and what host you are on?

84
Yeah unfortunately shared hosting is always going to be a bit luck of the draw as you don't know who your neighbors are or what kind of traffic/processes they have going.  That will be the same with basically any of the lower cost shared hosts.  Hopefully when the sites become profitable it will make sense to upgrade.  I'm looking at upgrading to VPS with Bluehost this month ($29.99 per/month level) since I'm running several sites on my account now. If I get that done I'll report back on speed.

A buyer that comes to your site through a Google image search for example or even through a network connection on another Symbio site is not likely to be aware of or shop at Canstock.  My years at a design agency taught me sometimes finding the right image quickly is worth more than the designer's time to carefully price search through every site out there.

Also just personal experience,  I've had great luck at a couple of smaller agencies and past personal sites that have a higher price point than some of the micros so I know first hand there are a group of buyers out there who aren't going off to scour the web for a cheaper price when they find an image they want.

Another interesting thought to ponder is if you get to the point where you are having success on your own site at your own prices, you can choose whether you even want to continue selling on agencies with lower prices.  ;)

Hi Ron, you don't need to delete Yoast it's still recommended as it does everything else really well.  Leo's plugin is just adds some extra features to sitemaps specifically for Symbiostock.

Just went back and read that I must have missed it, sorry!  I'd be happy to help once I get a little farther with Symbioguides and a couple of other things going on.  You have some great ideas in there. I agree that September is a great time to do a big push too.  May have some future Symbiostockers out there occupied with kids at home for the summer :)

I tend to think that setting up and running your own site is enough of an effort that it will self regulate.  If people join and start uploading what we might consider sub par images they either won't sell causing those people lose interest or they'll improve their work to get sales.

I doubt too many people will pay for hosting/domain and put the time and work in to keep uploading to a site that makes no money, unless they have a serious passion for selling images in which case they probably aren't crap :D

In the meantime if you don't want your customers seeing their images you have the option to not have them in your network so it's a win win without having to exclude anybody.  Basically as I see it people will earn their own "spot" in the network by having good images and more connections.

It is indeed a Jetpack function, a little info here: http://www.symbioguides.com/knowledgebase/jetpack-info-installation/

Basically you make a free Wordpress account (this is so you can use their database functions for things like the Stats plugin which is fantastic) then go into your dashboard, click Jetpack and Connect to Wordpress.

There are lots of things in there you may find useful.  On my symbio site I use the sharing buttons, stats and contact form. ....on all 16 images I have uploaded, can you tell I've been busy? :)

I'll be updating that tutorial with the Jetpack info and moving it to Symbiosguides soon, it's on the list now thanks!

Another question: Is anyone using jetpack? How is it performing with sys website?

I recommend Jetpack and use it for stats, contact form, sharing buttons and it can be useful for custom CSS editing as well.  Because it's provided by the Wordpress crew all of the plugins are fairly up to date and actively worked on by knowledgeable developers which is nice.

There are a few tutorials that include it here: http://www.symbioguides.com/?s=jetpack&post_type%5B%5D=st_kb

Thanks Cathy, good to know!

Looks like Travelling-light has the answer, if you manually created the Image Categories page make sure to choose the correct page template.

A Parent Page is basically just an organizational tool in Wordpress used to help give hierarchies to your pages which is useful if you have a site with a lot of content.  In Symbiostock it's not something you really have to use or worry about for the basic functions, but it's good to know in general.

92
That's really odd I haven't been able to reproduce the issue with my test site, which keeps the custom CSS through updates.

The only thing I can think of is that you have to do the edits under Edit CSS (which is actually a feature of Jetpack) and not under Editor, but it sounds like you are doing it in the proper place so that shouldn't be the issue. Sorry for the trouble!  I would suggest to everyone to keep a back up of any changes you make to any child theme just in case.

Just to dispel any confusion, you are correct that the purpose of a child theme is so that you won't lose edits when the main theme is updated, and that is true if the edits are actually written into the child theme itself. The changes Cathy is referring to is additional custom edits to a child theme added through a Jetpack function. (So they aren't actually being written into the child theme css file.) This is the "proper" way to edit a child theme though in case that also gets updated.

If anyone is curious I have a few screen shots here:

Thanks for the replies, I understand it.
I then want that when clicking on the 'Categories' in the menu you will not be redirected to the blank page, like me, but on the page with all CATEGORIES  following, for example here:

http://pinkbadgerphoto.com/116-2/

Sorry for my Enlish! :-[

I think Ron is correct that it may be a re-direct issue.  I was looking at your site trying to figure this one out and I noticed that when I go to your categories page the url says: http://elilena.com/sample-page/image-categories/

But it should just be http://elilena.com/image-categories/  however, when I try that link it redirects to the first url.  Did you maybe set up a redirect manually?   If so may want to adjust that one page, it looks like everything else is working properly.

94
Hmm. How important is the "Select another theme" thing? Yesterday I just deleted the Arctium theme without selecting another WP theme before uploading and activating/deactivating the 2.5.5 theme zip. I have the child theme installed.

I don't seem to have any problems so far but wonder if I may have broken something that's going to catch me out at some point.

You should be just fine, this is only for the case where the theme needed to be re-uploaded manually, so when you are just doing the easy/standard update it won't be an issue.  Also since you have the child theme it wouldn't have been a problem, but in Ron's case Wordpress won't allow you to delete an active theme so that's why he had to activate another.  Hope that helps!

95
Did you activate TwentyTwelve (or one of the defaults) and remove the main theme?

Make sure you don't delete your local copies of the changed files, it should be pretty easy to do your child theme, you will basically include those two files and a css file that imports the original theme style.

96
Ron, have you done changes the CSS or PHP files?  It looks like your site is pretty close to the base theme from what I can see.

Your images, menus license etc won't be deleted because they aren't saved in your theme, they are saved in the database.

Hmm, I'm concerned I'll take another look but nothing in the CSS should be causing that at all.  I think the test site is on 2.4.9 so I'm going to upgrade and make sure it doesn't affect anything.

Worst case I would suggest flipping over to the main theme to see if the category page is working with that then we can narrow it down.

98
Hi Ron,

Send me a message about what you've done so far and I'll see if I can get your changes converted to a child theme so you won't lose them when you update.

You are  correct on 2 & 3 as far as I know.  I'll have to take a closer look at the filtering system to answer 4.

I'm not sure about 5 maybe someone else can chime in on that?

It looks like you are using Amanda's Clean and Simple Child Theme ?

That does have the page will all categories disabled.  It will probably be easiest to ask Amanda directly for help on this.

I like having the full category page and numbers visible as well, I find it very useful :)

Not sure what you mean? Clean theme only changes the look of the category page, it doesn't disable anything.  Here is the Image Category page on the sample site.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Thank you, I'm going to make that adjustment for the update of Cleantheme, was just waiting a bit for the dust to settle on the main theme since I had one or two new elements to style.  I'll be sending out the updated version this week!
