Veer / Re: Veer: Portfolio Size, Sales, Views, & Keywording
« on: August 02, 2009, 17:27 »
so far 111 images (about half transferred and half new).
6 of new images have 1 view each; one of transferred images has 2 views.
no sales so far.

Thus I don't think it will be bad for us contributors if the new customers will come from sxc.hu to istock instead of StockXpert.

If you think dropping down from %50 commission to %20 is good for us than I need to say no more  :)
This reminds of the long-lasting debate between old-school photographers and microstockers, i.e. about microstock prices being too low for decent photographers.

I don't care too much what per cent of sale do I get because it's more important how many sales I get. Each of istock or shutterstock give me low per-image sales yet each of them generates more sales and $$ per month than StockXpert (some time ago my StockXpert sales were in line with IS or SS but that's not the case any longer. It will become even worse with JIU and photos.com sales getting away from StockXpert).

355
When we met with StockXpert and Jupiter folks in the conference last year they said that majority of new users were coming from sxc.hu

Thus I don't think it will be bad for us contributors if the new customers will come from sxc.hu to istock instead of StockXpert.

What will happen with StockXpert remains unclear... In any case I am quite sure there will be no rush and sudden moves - if they will phase it out they will do it gradually. Or perhaps they will leave it for non-exclusives and make istock exclusive-only site? (just an idea)

I can't say really "successfully" but I made a sale on RedBubble (but I only have a few tens pictures there).

I also made some print sales via my web-site but not very many.

Veer / Re: Setting up Veer
« on: July 26, 2009, 16:52 »
a funny thing - I didn't upload for the last few weeks yet I keep getting email once a week about 2-3 of my images being approved (although everything from my last batch is processed 2 or 3 weeks ago and I have 0 images in "Pending")

All my image stats say zero views and zero sales. However, I've earned $'s over the last few month, so I don't think these stats are updated or live yet. I think they are still getting there house in order, we need to be patient.  ;)
Where on Veer website do you any stats about views and sales?? I can only see it under my images, but nowhere can I see any summary...

Bigstock.com / Re: How are you doing at BigStock?
« on: July 24, 2009, 12:05 »
My sales at BigStock used to be very flat, but slightly increased in the last months. When my portfolio was below 1000pix average sales were at $15/month level, now my portfolio has passed 1000 threshold and the sales are above $20/month.

Indeed not high at all for that size of portfolio, so they are among the last in my upload list - i.e. I upload there rarely, only when have some spare time.

My BigStock sales used to be in line (or even behind) 123rf, however 123rf went down in 2009 so I will probably stop uploading there. While BigStock is low it shows at least some improvement...

Adobe Stock / Re: Myfotolia.com ~ Is Anyone Using This????
« on: June 25, 2009, 08:21 »
It was announced relatively widely when it was introduced. However it went completely quiet since then; and it seems to be pretty useless (i.e. Fotolia doesn't make efforts to promote it therefore it is not any more useful than your personal web site; and if you use your personal web site you have much better control over things).

there are many kinds of "props" money out there, typically available via theatrical props shops
those I've seen in Russia have relatively small print along one side saying it isn't real which isn't visible on most photos.

and on this picture it would be too visible so I photoshopped it out :

My portfolio is very small at PM (just several tens pictures)

With respect to this fact its difficult to comment.... .
Of course :)
So I hope some other members who have bigger portfolios at PM could share their impressions... I have about 1000 photos that I could upload - not a huge amount but not too low - so I wonder if my efforts for uploading will be paid back in reasonable time.

And indeed thanks for the good news about new upload process !

Panthermedia.net / Re: What about Panthermedia?
« on: June 23, 2009, 08:11 »
I've got my first sale many months ago; and then several months later I've got a second one. Then I don't have any for several months... So I wonder are there really regular sales, and are they higher than for example bigstock or 123rf? My portfolio is very small at PM (just several tens pictures); and upload process is lengthy so I wonder if it worth the time/effort spent...

me too - I still have both JI and photos.com sales, although not as many as I would like :)

Cameras / Lenses / Re: 85mm f/1.8 or 70-200 f/4L
« on: June 18, 2009, 04:53 »
I just can say that I am quite happy with my 85mm f/1.8, and having 1.8 is a great deal. The lens is perfectly sharp at f1.8 (but DOF is very shallow; and chromatic aberrations very noticeable at f1.8); and also having 1.8 is a great help for autofocus when there is not so much light.

Has anyone purchased images from LO?

I have been finding many copied of a certain image of mine in a watermakred version from LO.  I have also been finding many versions of this same image with the same file name as the watermarked one, so I wonder if people really purchased this image (I sold it four times there) or if they removed the watermark.

All these suspicious copies, as well as the watermarked ones, are named
LO-cartoon_sun_gradient_color-50758.jpg

If anyone purchased images in LO, maybe you can help me know if all their files had that name format.

no, the format was different:
LuckyOliver-373059-blog-to_fly.jpg
LuckyOliver-1134495-medium-clown.jpg

i.e. "LuckyOliver-" + image_id + size + title .jph

StockXpert.com / Re: Are you still uploading there??
« on: June 17, 2009, 12:03 »
I am still getting good sales on StockXpert from my old photos - but no view no sales from the recent ones. So I am not uploading for the last few weeks but I am ready to resume if the things will change.

StockXpert.com / Re: Is StockXpert going down?
« on: June 17, 2009, 12:01 »
I just hope they will keep StockXpert, although it doesn't look very promising... Despite the issues with new images my sales are not bad - and StockXpert has different customer base comparing with istock. I am quite sure they will loose a big deal of customers if they close StockXpert and point them to istock.

Is there any definition or standard what is stock material? It cannot be only fake studio shots of business situations ;-)

Veer / Re: Problem with FTB to Veer?
« on: June 11, 2009, 07:56 »
worked fine for me yesterday.

Don't forget that you have to use FTP over explicit TLS/SSL - which isn't a default setting and needs to be selected explicitly. You can't set it in Filezilla's quickconnect - you have to set it via Site Manager.

Open filzezilla, go to menu File, then Site Manager. Click New site, type Veer for site name. Then in the right top corner enter upload.veer.com for Host, and select servertype FTEPS - FTP over explicit TLS/SSL

then enter your username (email address you used for Veer) and your password and click Connect

Next time you'll just need to click a little arrow in the top left corner and select Veer from the list that will appear

Alamy.com / Re: Site problems and hostility
« on: June 11, 2009, 04:22 »
For me I am not always agree with rejections but I accepted fact that they want to be different.
I have yet to see their first rejection - haven't got a one thus far. But I didn't upload much and I upload in-frequently - I am too lazy with their lengthy process of describing images.

I suppose people who deal with Alamy a lot probably have a very different experience than me.

Veer / Re: Article about Veer & Corbis
« on: June 11, 2009, 02:50 »
Now it is clear why SV was a failure. Corbis wanted it to be a failure to proof a point. Lets hope Veer will not be subjected to the same ignorance.
I remember that Veer guys basically agreed in some conversations in the past months that SnapVillage wasn't a favorite child of Corbis and that they realised that microstock shouldn't be ignored and that Veer is a result of that understanding... But from this article it seems there is a disconnection between Veer guys and Corbis's top management.

Alamy isn't the site that I access daily. I upload small batches, and not very often.
Never had any problems.

General Stock Discussion / Re: May 2009 earnings breakdown

May was a worst month of the year (WMY) at most sites for me, and not by a little bit.  >:( I have never experienced such a sharp drop in earnings before.
same for me :(
