General Stock Discussion / Re: Model: Middle-aged or Mature?

I would say both too.

Envato / Re: Photodune, Thoughts?
« on: December 21, 2011, 09:06 »
it takes some time to get used to the upload system on photodune, but once you understand the logic it appears to be one of the easiest possible. (still too many clicks but certainly better than many others)

You only need to put release in a zip file if you upload via web interface.

If you upload via FTP you must upload all releases for your batch at once, and you must upload it to Releases folder on FTP server (just normal JPG or PDF files) - that must be done before you press Process button.

then Process, then Show all then submit (several times if you upload more than 25 pictures at once, as Show all only shows 25 photos).

No categories, no editing one by one, no attaching releases one by one.

StockFresh / Re: StockFresh - Is the opportunity passing?
« on: December 17, 2011, 10:02 »
I am sure a huge part of PhotoDune success can be attributed to extremely low competition among phogographers - all the thousands of contributors existing at iStock or shutterstock aren't on photodune yet. It can easily change as soon as more people will learn about them...

And, pre-existing market of their Envato marketplace is indeed another contributing factor. That part SF is missing.

I do hope SF will grow but I simply don't see how Peter can achieve that. Unless they invent something really interesting to distinguish from the competitors.

I suppose it's the content or the quality of your images is what doesn't suit Zoonar.

My acceptance rate remains above 99%
I do occasionally upload there as the process is extremely simple and not taking my time; and occasionally there are some sales, and the number of partners is gradually growing...

Envato / Re: PhotoDune Non-ex Rate Increase from 25% to 33%
« on: November 21, 2011, 19:30 »
thanks for the good news!

And I am impressed with how my sales started to come when I uploaded only 1/4 of my portfolio.

I just hope the total sales at Photodune will grow faster than competition between photographers...

DepositPhotos / Re: It's DP a safe place for our photos?
« on: November 14, 2011, 14:10 »
Be realistic - there is no safe place for your photos while they are in internet. Regardless DP there are tons of photos pirated from the other stock sites.

Serious customers will never use pirated pictures; and those who do use them wouldn't have paid anyway so most of the time pirated pictures aren't truly a "missed income".

It is indeed very unpleasant to see your photos available for free and I support the idea of making the life of pirates difficult wherever possible - but I am realistic and I am not going to spend any significant efforts for that.

As I see from various copyright-related incidents, in reality it's easier to go after illegal use when found one, rather than trying to fight with the windmills.

Site Related / Re: Should MSG require confirmed identities?
« on: October 14, 2011, 10:20 »
I don't think it would have many benefits but it might certainly bring some drawbacks (those who want to stay anonymous because of the agencies as mentioned above)

I have no problems to provide any additional proof of my own identity to Tyler but I think we better don't have it mandatory in MSG.

123RF / Re: 123RF Top Tier - Big 5?
« on: October 03, 2011, 06:11 »
it is still a middle tier for me. It's doing constantly better than bigstock for the last few months, but is constantly behind IS, SS, DT, FL (few times less earnings). I do however hear from some people outside this forum that 123rf is performing very well for them, like a top tier agency.

it was mentioned by Dreamstime directly (a few weeks ago) that "isolated" means pure white or black and no shadows. Like it or not, but that is their official policy.

New Sites - General / Re: Sales on Zoonar?
« on: July 01, 2011, 04:35 »
Is anybody having sales on Zoonar?

I was receiving a steady flow of sales each month until the 4th of March, this year.

Since that day, I have not had one sale.

Has this happened to anybody else?
yep same picture (though I had a couple of sales attributed to May but I believe they were follow-ups from previous times - otherwise full stop since March).

that's a pity but I stopped wasting time with it until I hear about any significant improvement

If this happens it actually might be good cause company's operations will be more transparent.
no, it is BAD! I work in a large multi-nationals for 15 years and I've seen so many examples of decisions taken by management to please shareholders but harming the business

edited to add: when a company is sold to investors it's pretty much the same thing - investors want to be pleased now if it will harm the business in a longer run.

63
1) when do you plan to add the support for model releases?
2) login to crestock doesn't work at lightburner (I double checked logging in and out manually, but lightburner says verification doesn't work)

Crestock.com / Re: Crestock Logo!
« on: June 21, 2011, 14:54 »

it goes well with the website's theme :)
which is horrible and not updated for several years

but anyway - who cares?  ;D

Dreamstime.com / Re: Dreamstime, is flagging images!!
« on: June 21, 2011, 14:31 »
I got them just a couple of times long ago, and one recently. I must admit it was a correct one - I copied/pasted words from another image and forgotten to remove a few that were not appropriate.

Hey now, Can Stock's logo is way worse.

Software - General / Re: Chrome
« on: June 21, 2011, 09:47 »
Chrome is my secondary browser

My main browser is firefox. I keep many tabs open in firefox all the time... so when editing large multi-layer files in photoshop I close firefox to save memory and cpu power... and when I need to quickly check something (like dictionary for example) I use Chrome

and IE is used exclusively for my wife's webmail so that I don't need to re-enter the password neither for her nor for my web mail :)

Shutterstock.com / Re: Are you experiencing MASS REJECTIONS?
« on: June 21, 2011, 00:52 »
No not mass-rejections at all.

However, reviewers att ALL sites have IMO, a limited creative knowledge<...>
yep same for me

I wonder how he moved the camera while doing timelapse. Some movements can be made with motorized head, but there are some long straight movements... rails and dolly??

Pixmac / Re: How long does PM take to review images?
« on: May 10, 2011, 11:44 »
from 1 day to 1 week!
aren't you mixing it up with another site? PM is indeed one of the slowest, average is around 3 weeks lately.

71
photographers get 5 * $1,88 = $9,4
no, the price for "on demand" varies. I am getting $1.17 or $2.70 per sale

72
I'll give it try with a few files (some best sellers, and some non-sellers).
Will see if it's better or worse. My total sales from IS dropped so much that the risk isn't high, even if I ruin some of my best sellers.

73
New Sites - General / Re: ZOONAR ! anybody??
« on: May 03, 2011, 07:01 »
yes you simply put the data into IPTC, upload and wait for review

Once reviewed, you put proper licensing data to all accepted images, that's it. No categories, no attaching releases one by one.

Yes, it's a bit unusual but uploading = submitting for review. Similar logic at Graphic Leftovers.

74
It's not so difficult :)

If your picture is sold on microstock you have to select 30%

If you picture is only sold at macro prices (e.g. Alamy but not microstock) you can select 50%

iStockPhoto.com / Re: No crisis du jour at istockphoto?
« on: April 27, 2011, 10:53 »

Thank you, but my sales at IS are a crisis in themselves  :'( ;D
Unfortunately my too :(

February was my BME, and so far April looks like my worst month since Jun-2008. Though there is still a chance for a few ELs :)
