no, for that kind of camera it is actually cheap

General Stock Discussion / Re: Your Referral Earnings
« on: November 20, 2008, 04:39 »
For me it's peanuts, but I haven't done much enough to attract referrals. It's mainly my article at http://stock.miklav.com that allows me to get some people; but I am not running an active community to get much. It's more interesting for me to spend my free time doing photography :)

I know at least 2 people who gets a really substantial amount via referrals, and I think one of them earns more from referrals than from his own pictures.

Site Related / endless site loading in browser
« on: November 18, 2008, 10:07 »
Not sure if it's since today or for a couple of days already - the site shows that it's "loading" forever. I can see everything on page, but some piece of google ad code takes forever to load... a bit annoying

Crestock.com / Re: Its alive!
« on: November 14, 2008, 10:08 »
I stopped upload there because of insane rejections. They are too choosy for my taste, plus they pay only 25 cents per sold image.
I think rejections at Fotolia are much much worse. But Fotolia sells not so bad, that's why I stay with them :)

Canon / Re: Canon 5D Mark II in stock anywhere? ..
« on: November 13, 2008, 06:06 »
I saw it "in stock" in some online shops in Germany - you can check idealo.de portal, it's easy to navigate even not knowing German. I saw it in several shops at idealo a few days ago, but now I only see it in one shop. This is a direct link - http://www.idealo.de/preisvergleich/OffersOfProduct/1169959I-1-15_-eos-5d-mark-ii-canon.html?ts=1226561996762

Adobe Stock / Re: Payouts Delayed??
« on: November 12, 2008, 04:36 »
yes the payment from Fotolia comes slowly sometimes, but it comes without problems.

Asking for and ID at registration or at the first payment is normal practice for all microstocks, and they will not do that every time (only once in beginning).

Dreamstime.com / Re: Whats up with DT?
« on: November 12, 2008, 02:59 »
DT was ok for me too for the last months. November seems a bit low, but it is only 12th of the month so too early to judge.

I was away from computer and internet on October 8-13th and only found this news today, because of the previous post.

Very sad news indeed :(

The note just arrived:

I already voted positively an hour ago, and a few minutes ago I received this note. In my opinion this is a satisfactory response.

StockXpert.com / Re: Any Photos.com Sales lately?
« on: October 30, 2008, 03:17 »
I am getting some photos.com sales, but not many and not every day. I didn't have any between the 2nd and the 17th of October, and since the 17th I have at least one sale almost every day...

542
I too hope they will not screw up StockXpert. StockXpert is one of my best earners and I like it much better than IS.

so far didn't experience any issues (fingers crosssed :) ) - able to log in, nothing unusual with my earnings... payment request is delayed, but it isn't unusual...

Cameras / Lenses / Re: You have a backup camera?
« on: October 14, 2008, 09:10 »
After I bought my Canon ESO 40D I didn't use 350D for several month so I sold it. Then my 40D broke, and while it was at repair I bought Canon G9 as backup - it supports RAW and provides reasonable quality; and it's compact enough and easy to use by other family members.

I don't thing I need an SLR camera as backup as long as I am doing only part-time photography. However I think it's needed for full-time photographers.

Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / Re: GIMP New Version 2.6
« on: October 02, 2008, 16:46 »
Version 2.6 is using GEGL image library. GIIMP is changing to 32-bit, but they aren't done with the process.
This is very interesting news indeed!

Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / Re: GIMP New Version 2.6
« on: October 02, 2008, 15:22 »
both GIMP and Elements are 8-bit-only - i.e. not good for intensive top-quality editing.

AFAIK, photoshop is the only usable software having 16-bit editing and layers functionality.

Without 16-bit I would rate Corel Paint Shop Pro X2 ($100) very high - with the exception of 16 bit, the functionality came quite close to one of photoshop - and far better than PS Elements. Interface of PSP X2 seems to be more convenient that GIMP (but that's subjective indeed).

General Stock Discussion / Re: Oslo Photoshoot
« on: October 01, 2008, 08:49 »
I am not close to Olso at all, but I could possibly join if event will be planned long enough in advance; and if it will be planned for a nice time of the year (either snow or sun, but not rain and mud).

I don't think it makes sense to speak about investment per image. I mean it could make sense for statistics; but it isn't realistic to count it reasonably precisely. For me there is a huge variation of cost - sometimes I walk a few meters from my house with my son (or even stay at home) and in that case the only cost is my time, and in that scenario it's not much of my time; sometimes I buy props, get some models, makeup artist, travel to a location and have a lunch/dinner in a restaurant - and that's another cost. Sometimes I drive to a location far away, but without any models - so it's just my time but quite a bit of it.

Another question is how to count the cost of equipment and accessories that I keep buying more or less regularly. Including equipment will have a great impact on my average cost.
