I see increase in SS and in StockXpert, and in DT.

September was BME at Crestock with 13 sales (in the past 1.5 years I only saw 2-6 sales per month). It is still very low but at least I see progress and motivation to upload the rest of my portfolio.

iStockphoto    12%
ShutterStock   28%
StockXpert     23%
Fotolia         9%
Dreamstime     13%
BigStockPhoto   4%
123royaltyfree  5%
Other           7%

This particular example looks very un-natural and I wonder why anybody would want to repeat it.

I support either of the suggestions above.

Photoshop Tutorials / skin retouching tutorial for beginners
« on: September 24, 2008, 10:19 »
I've published an illustrated step-by-step skin retouching tutorial in my blog.

The article focuses on how to clean skin effects, and how to do edits like a nose form. Skin smoothing technique isn't included and will be described separately.

Your feedback is welcome - either here or under the main article at http://miklav.blogspot.com/2008/07/beginners-skin-retouching-tutorial.html

if a customer is satisfied with one agency; and if customer isn't small and their business process is aligned with one agency, it will not be so easy to turn them to another - so I am not sure how big threat is it for Fotolia.

On the other hand, for me personally Fotolia isn't doing well. It is just above 123rf and BS, but far behind IS, SS, StockXpert, DT.

Anyway, interesting news; and interesting to see how the things will develop.

you can upload via ftp; and there is a possibility of group edit which is particularly useful for images with the same category; and/or for images with the same model release

You can use 3rd party software for uploads to iStock, that makes life much easier.

I use DeepMeta for that, but there are some other tools too.

I don't see an issue with Dreamstime though. FTP upload, than manual categorizing - but interface seems to be reasonable...

Yeah when I saw empty fields I thought it wasn't the case at my first attempt, but then I thought it's just my bad memory. Good to hear that IPTC is used; and hope you will find what's the issue with the upload. Email sent.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Are you going to buy Canon EOS 5Dmk2?
« on: September 18, 2008, 13:30 »
Probably yes. I am waiting for detailed reports with real-life samples; and comparison with 5D. Then I will decide whether I will really save for 5D mk2 as I suppose (or to buy 5D while they are still available at cheap price).

I just stopped with canstock - no single sale since January.

I don't see a reason to stop with any site that makes regular sales, even low.

Crestock is probably the lowest earner for me, but it brings sales regularly even with small portfolio - so I plan to upload my complete portfolio there.

123 and BS are doing better so I already have complete portfolio there...

With Yay I only had 2 sales so far, but I am going to give them a good time, at least several months.

Not sure about FP - they are doing better than canstock, but sales are very rare and random. May be I will stop with them too - they didn't really take off and they unlikely will...

I submitted 3 files via browser and checking the site a few days later I discovered that they disappeared.
Then I submitted again 3 files (btw I use FireFox) and double-checked I see them in Pending. 1 or 2 days later I received mail that the files appear blank!

something seems to be wrong with the web interface

and it's EXTREMELY annoying that IPTC information isn't read from the files.

I've got my first sale and I am pleasantly surprised - it was sold as a package of business card and graphic image, and therefore the payment is much higher :)

SnapVillage.com / Re: Unbelievable - first sale on SV
« on: September 16, 2008, 07:18 »
I had one sub sale in july and one in sep, but I only uploaded there several tens pictures

563
For me StockXpert is within the top 3 earner, so for StockXpert I would say definitely "yes".

123 and BS are quite far behind, but their performance isn't neglectable. It's better than Crestock, Most, snapvillage, featurepics and many others.

Fotolia has drawbacks as was mentioned, but financially it performs better than 123rf and BigStock.

I do have some days without any sale too, but nevertheless the total results for this month so far are pretty good.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Image management
« on: September 11, 2008, 16:09 »
I keep track of all my uploads and rejections in one single Excel table. One line per file, one column per microstock. Cell content shows in different colors whether the file is ready for upload, uploaded and waitng, accepted or rejected. Works fine for me so at the moment I have no desire to spend time learning any dedicated microstock management software.

The main advantages of that method is that is allows so see which files are rejected by multiple stocks (i.e. I made a bad job); and it allows to track submissions visually, for example mix uploads from different sessions to avoid sending several "similar" files to one stock at the same time. It also makes it easy to add a new stock to the list.

It is a bit time consuming to track all acceptance/rejections, but it isn't a problem with my current upload rate. If I manage to produce significantly more pictures per month I would consider changing my tracking system...

« on: September 11, 2008, 09:14 »
The n1 French Magazine "chasseur d'images" has just given some specifications of the new eos 5D :

that's all for now, this time ,these are not speculations .
announcement the 17th September
here is the url: http://www.chassimages.com/accueil/Sommaire.xml

If that's true it would be a good answer to Sony Alpha 900 :)

There are some rumors that the next version of the 1Ds will be a medium format body.

BTW there are rumors about medium format Nikon to be announced in February

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Has your camera ever needed some repair?
« on: September 10, 2008, 02:30 »
I never use USB plug either. However I had to repair my 40D once, but for another issue. The main plate on top, with the top camera cover and buttons was replaced under warranty. It took ~1.5 weeks - normally would be <1 week, but it was a long weekend when I took it to Canon service in Germany.

Is there a way in the new forum to see all new messages from different categories in one common list, as was shown by default in the old version?

Hi Mikhail,

thanks for your response. Here is one of them: http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/in-insert/1399103-dvd-buttons.php?id=1399103

I don't think composition has anything to do in this case. I suppose they meant "we don't want this type of pictures"...

Dreamstime.com / Re: "Lack of Composition"

In my experience rejections at Dreamstime are usually reasonable, and if I remember right I never got this particular type of rejection. Even though not all of my pictures are perfectly composed...

You could show some of your rejected pictures if you want a more specific comment...

General Stock Discussion / Re: Which sites require regular uploads?
« on: September 08, 2008, 14:46 »
I agree that to some degree all sites need that.

However the most sensitive to new uploads are Shutterstock, Stockxpert and Dreamstime (at least for me).
