Crestock.com / Re: Do miracles happen?
« on: September 08, 2008, 02:24 »
Although Crestock doesn't sell much I get a few sales every month (and I uploaded so far less than 200 pictures, because Crestock isn't my priority and I only upload when I have time).

Yes their rejections often look illogical to me, but they are not as bad as Fotolia :)

I had 1 single sale in 2008... I didn't upload anything for several months, and finally decided to delete my account too.

One question! Do you sell your photos in any type of agency like corbis or jupiter?

i sell on getty, corbis and jupiter

what made you interested in trying microstock?
It is not unusual these days to see on microstock some long-time-professional photographers already experienced with traditional stock photography. DNDavis and Ron Chapple are two most-wellknown examples. They both are doing well at micro; and they both said at different time that microstock already generates approximately 1/3 of their stock photography income (and I suppose the portion of micro in their income will grow).

So it may be as worth for you to try it. Although the amount paid per one photo sale is low, the number of sales is much higher comparing with traditional stock.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Istock rejections based on Model Release
« on: August 30, 2008, 16:30 »
no, when they reject the content of the release the message is different than just missing release (sorry don't remember the exact text, but it's different). Are your photos rejected for "missing release" marked as "resubmit", or they are still in the pending queue, or they are completely rejected ("no resubmit")?

I upload using DeepMeta. I only saw disappeared model release once and I am not 100% sure it wasn't my own fault. I did also see it a few times in the past when I used web interface, but I thought it was my own fault. Anyway it was just a few times, nothing close to your 50%.

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia sales - good or bad for you?
« on: August 29, 2008, 13:15 »
My fotolia sales dropped significantly since they upgraded to v.2 (last summer) and remain low. Acceptance became very bad lately too.

It is still doing better than 123rf or Bigstockphoto for me, being #5 after IS, SS, StockXpert and DT

Thanks! This picture of lighthouse is one of my bestsellers on microstocks. Hopefully business cards buyers will like it too ;)

Once you go through and change the ranking on your templates, let me know. I'll refresh your page and you'll have more of a variety of templates that show up.
Done!

thank you! :)

I've got a few more in the last few days. Just a few, and no PPD yet

Planning your model shoot really helps. Think about one or several subject(s) that could be made in one location and without too many clothes change. Think about a few very particular pictures that you would make, but once started don't stick only to them, try to experiment around... For every subject and every pose try different angles, different point of view - straight, tilted, from side, from above, from below; perhaps try different lightling.

My personal preference for stock model shoots goes more and more away from studio towards "on location" - whether indoors or outdoors. By the way it is easier for non-experienced models, because they feel themselves familiar in a real life environment rather than in photo studio.

Whether in a studio or on location, accessories are a good help. Not only they animate the picture, but they can keep model busy and therefore make him/her look naturally.

Although I have quite a few of people shots in my portfolio, I consider myself as still not very experienced working with the models. Anyway, my 2 cents:

* I didn't have really bad case, but the worst was when I was much less experienced than now and the model was not experienced at all (just one of our friends). I didn't know what to do, she didn't know what to do... well, at the end we were still able to produce some decent stock cliche pictures;

* My best experience was when I worked with (semi) professional model, who already did a lot of modelling. She understood my ideas even before I was able to completely express them; and she creatively elaborated on them. That was a lot of pleasure and fun.

* Good make-up helps. Taking solarium before the shoot doesn't!

* I was talking above about adult/teenager models. Photographing toddlers is completely different story - they are faster than autofocus! I've written about that in my blog - http://miklav.blogspot.com/2008/05/photographing-toddlers.html

I uploaded more than 25 templates yesterday but they all are waiting for approval... (AT56674 to AT56733)

Oh, the Hasselblad is selling for $7,519.99 on Amazon everyone.
$7.5K is without digital back which is the most expensive piece...

great, they excepted my ID today.   now I have to upload 10 pictures. any ideas what the most popular mistakes are?
It should be clean and sharp, no noise, no black-and-white, vivid colors. No need for high resolution - their minimal accepted standard is ok (it could help with noise and sharpness if you reduce the size). No pictures too similar with each other.

596
I use one generic release for all agencies.

Hello Everyone,

Wow! The positive response we have received has been overwhelming! Thank you!

We have over 30 new artist registrations as a result of this thread.
I am one of them :) I will upload my templates within a few days

Lighting / Re: Paper or cloth for isolations
« on: August 20, 2008, 09:27 »
If you photograph people at full height paper might be better, because it gets dirty from foot steps and you can easily roll a few more feet once when that happens

On the other hand, the roll of paper is heavier/bulkier - it needs stronger support and it takes more space especially if you use several different colors
